How to Create Facebook Ads Campaigns That Get Clicks, Opt-ins and Sales

Hello guys,

I've been doing Facebook ads for the past 6 months,
it took me a couple of weeks of testing to know exactly
how to create profitable ads.

Now today I'm finally getting as low as 0.17 cents clicks
to an external website, and paying as low as 0.4 cents
per lead (also getting up to 350% ROI doing affiliate promotions)

I wrote a FB Report that should be at the war-room anytime soon,
but I wanted to help the most people possible with getting profitable
ads campaigns using Facebook.

So, what's the secret of success with Facebook ads to a external
website?

Besides having a good ad (this includes having a good image,
headline and copy) I have to say targeting and bidding.

You also need to understand something, this is more like
developing an advertising mindset. Before you start advertising
anywhere, you need to understand these four things.
  • Cost: How much I’m spending.

  • Risks: Risks involves spending that.

  • Results: The result you want to get (opt-in or sale)

  • Measure: Tracking your results

The idea is to minimise, always, the lowest amount possible
your risk with any campaign. It doesn’t matter what level of
expertise you have, advertising is not about having a
big budget, is all about doing things right.

I always start a new Facebook Campaign with a daily budget
of just $10.00
, and by the way, I always watch my campaigns
closely to make sure I’m getting impressions and clicks.
If I see my campaign is not getting impressions (and my ad
bidding is good too, which I’ll show you later) then I bump my
campaign to $20.00, however, since I’m watching my campaigns
closely, on my first day I never spent the $20.00 - never. Only the
$10.00.

By doing this, I don’t have to risk money when I’m testing a new
campaign. So if is not working properly, I can pause it and tweak it.
I usually let it run for 24 hours *minimum*, and my risk, is minimum too.
This way you don’t have to worry about messing things up

Measuring your results is crucial, you need to track your clicks,
your page trigger (so either use the Facebook Tracking Pixel, or your
own tracking tool. If you’re promoting an affiliate product, make
sure their affiliate program comes with a tracking, if not, you can
use something like ClickMeter or whatever fits your needs)

At the end of the day, is all about tracking to get results by
measuring your data in order to pause it, tweak it and scale it.

Now, be aware with scaling your campaign. Sure, you can
increase your daily budget and that will scale your impressions,
clicks and results.

So for example, at a $10.00 per day budget everything goes great,
you’re getting impressions, clicks and sales.

So if you decide to take the best ads and scale it to $15.00 per day
budget, and it goes great too, you start to get impressions, clicks
and sales.

Now you scale it up to $20.00 per day, and you’re still
making profit. So you decide to take it to the next level and get it to
$50.00 per day, but now, you’re not getting sales and you have to
take it back.

Remember, all campaigns have a point where is not paying for
itself, this is why is so important to measure your results, before
and after scaling.

Bidding

Alright, now let's into the good part. As any advertising platform
whatever Max Bid Per Click you place, is *NOT* what you’re going to pay,
that’s how much you’re willing to pay. If you have a good CTR your
CPC will be extremely low.

The strategy that I use is to bid $0.5 to $0.10 more than the
suggested bid, my ads always get impressions, and always get
clicks (of course clicks are related to having a targeted audiences
and a good ad)

I know it may sound crazy, but again, with a good ad and a good
targeted audience, your CPC can be extremely low.

Here you can see an ad I was running for Eben launch, I used custom
audiences (targeted audiences) and bid $0.9 cents more than the
suggested bid, and as a result, I got $0.17 CPC.

Note: Now, I know most of the people inside that custom audiences
knows Eben, however, for my own campaigns
(personal campaigns with my photos and people who don't know me)
I'm bidding $0.67 and paying $0.25 per click.

Let’s talk about the Click-Through-Rate when advertising on
Facebook (and bare in mind, this are not the “rules” or something,
these percentages are more like to give you an idea, this is using my
data after advertising).

Right Hand SideBar: 0.015% to 0.05%
Newsfeed Ad: 2% to 5+%

With Eben's ad I was getting 0.080% CTR, which is really good
for a right hand sidebar ad.

Your newsfeed ad should always have a much higher CTR,
because is in the way of their newsfeed. It gets noticed.

With this data, you think it will be better to only advertise on
the newsfeed? Nope, because your newsfeed is also more
expensive (besides, is never good to put all your eggs in one basket)

Here's the type of bidding that I'm using when creating campaigns

Getting leads: oCPM and/or Manual CPC

Getting sales: Manual CPC
Right Hand SideBar: Manual CPC

NewsFeed Ad: oCPM and/or Manual CPC

Targeting

So, you’re probably wondering… How the hell I get a good CTR,
right?
Pretty easy, you need two things:
1. Good, laser-targeted audiences.
2. A good Ad (image, headline, copy)

That’s it! Doing this is NOT complicated, getting the “perfect
audiences” it may look like a complicated process when you
compare that to the simple fan page or precise interests targeting.

But think about it, let’s say I want to create an add to promote a
product related to Facebook Ads. What can I do?

Well, I can target people who like get 10,000 fans and other fan
pages related to Facebook Ads, but, what happens to people from
Facebook Groups?

If you do a graph search for Groups named "facebook ads" you can
find some ultra targeted groups related to Facebook Ads.

This way, you can find ultra targeted facebook groups related to
your niche (and by doing it right, you can get facebook groups of buyers,
that's like having a buyers list at your fingertips - yes, is that powerful)

Now, in order to advertise to those groups, you need their ID’s,
the only way you can do this is with a Facebook Scrapper.

There’s a lot of talk about it, and let me tell you, you’re not
doing anything wrong (in fact, you could do it manually by just
removing the “www” and adding “graph.” to the profile URL)

However, I'm not going into details with this, there are plenty
of scrappers out there that work well for this. That's up to you,
you can get pretty good results with the precise interests and
behaviours inside FB.

Hope this helps some of you guys and gets you motivated to create
Facebook ads campaigns that work.

Gilberto.

P.S. By the way, if you have any questions, ask below, and I will stop by and answer them!

Oh and sorry for the long post, I tried to make it as detailed as possible.

Rock on.

For tracking, I use the Facebook Conversion Pixel, I also use ClickMeter to track affiliate promotions if the program I'm promoting does not have any tracking tools.

For ID scrapping, I'm using Social Lead Freak and Audiencemakr.

To create and manage the ads, I use the power editor and the reports inside Facebook. Power editor saves you a lot of time and energy, and it is extremely powerful when it comes to creating your campaigns

If you're starting out and looking for a guide, I definitely recommend you check Jon Loomer Digital and Keith Kranc's blog

Yeah Facebook offers several different types of ads. The most popular and most affordable are marketplace ads, which include ads to external websites, page post ads, sponsored stories and Facebook objects. These different ad types have different benefits. Choose the ones that suits your overall goals.

You can also do retargeting using the new Facebook feature inside the power editor.

The more affordable ads are right hand sidebar, the newsfeed ads are more expensive
but get more reach, it's all about not putting all your eggs in one basket and test
what works the best for your ad.

      Thanks for the value Hernandez!

Do you send to an FB fanpage or to an off-site squeeze page?

Secondly, do you have any tips for an IM related ad/squeeze that Facebook will approve?

      Thanks again.

No problemo, I'm glad you guys are getting value from this.

Rich, all my traffic goes to an external landing, either an opt-in page
(which is pretty much all the time) but also I direct link affiliate promotions
to their own landing page. Perhaps the only exception is when I create a
newsfeed ad and use it as a right sidebar ad, that one opens inside of
facebook and people and click the link in the description.

To get your landing page (IM related) with Facebook, sometimes is a matter
of luck. The other day I got 5 ads approved a 4 disapproved, all of them
used the same landing page and copy, but different audiences.

So, I resubmitted the ad the next day (creating them from scratch using the Power Editor),
        and got approved,
        with zero changes.

If you're having troubles getting your page approved - and you don't
use claims, big numbers with promises, and that other stuff, try to create
the ads again and just submit it again for approval.

And Concerning the Power Editor, I have an email list of my past customers. Is there a way to use this to create a profile of 'similar people' to target?

Yes, you can create a lookalike audience
(after you upload your custom audience)

            Just go to https://www.facebook.com/ads/manage/powereditor/,
then audiences, then "Create Audience" -> "Lookalike Audience",
and follow the instructions there to create your lookalike audience
