My site is not ranking on top

Hi friends i am optimizaing page in my site and it has got 290 back links and in search results page the link is on 7th position initially it had even positioned on 4th number and gradually it had dropped to the 8th position and is stable

    You have 290 backlinks to your website but what are the page rank of these backlinks are enough good? What keyword you targeted for promoting your website? Analyze yourself with your competitors and find out what they did or what caused that they are in first pages.

    I know that google is much more up for quality content these days as opposed to just the number of back links you have up.

    As long as you're on page one though, you should be good to go.

    Reasons could be different because there are many parameters on which Google judge a particular website. The latest algos Panda and Penguin must be the real factors because of which your website is not ranking. Go through the panda, penguine updates and see what your site lacks.

      Have you created your backlinks in a pyramid style to rank fast and not get penalized?

      You can use tools to this for you like link emperor to do this for you and rank up.

      Of course your on page should be up to par as well.

      Lower tier type of links pointing to higher type links then higher types pointing to your site and not low tier links directly to your site to not get penalized

    you will also have to add some content to site. This will allow it to get some more steps ahead in the raking.

    Apart from that you will have to look at getting some of the links to that you will have generate to the site and its pages hence making it have more authority in Google.
