I've had success generating traffic from creating my very own facebook group/page, but never attempted to generate traffic from joining one. I don't think a facebook group post from a member gets enough attention imo.

Try going to maybe smaller size groups and look where for groups where people are liking and commenting on value being brought to the group.

They are out there its just that the Internet is so damm big and its very few who are going to do the work correctly.

I would disagree with you, I think it really works...it just depends on the way how you advertise. sometime back i bought a formula where I learnt the trick for posting...n its totally against blatant advertising of your deal or website as usually everyone does...so it really helped....

I use groups to drive traffic every day. You ARE getting lost if you're just posting and looking for a bite.

I'd be more than happy to show you how I accomplish daily leads from Facebook groups regardless of size and without posting in them.

Hi David Black,

If 68 is the year you were born I'd say you are 45 or 46? As to your other question regarding Facebook, making money there requires hard work, patience, posting great content always on your page or group and never on your profile newsfeed. That is only for relationship building and getting friends?:rolleyes:

I think there are a few excellent courses on how to make money from Facebook but I also suggest using many other different sources as well. For Facebook, try FB Influance from Amy Porterfield which is one of the best I have seen.

Also use paid for and free ads and make sure you have your own list(s) and are building a relationship with them and not just selling and the same goes for using Facebook. Just posting buy this and that will never get anyone interested. Try giving more value and then the money will eventually come whatever you do? I like your blog.

maybe comment and like other posts to stick out. but if its just a group of people promoting and no one seeking. i dont see the point in doing that. but you might stick out a lot more if you go with fb ads targeting those members in that group

Sounds more like it. IDK whare I got the idea to join groups where they'd advertise. Got the wrog advice somewhere and tried it. I don't think it works as good as value content. I would have to find somewhere to what fit my niche and try to find something with some value to say then put my link at the bottom if OK.

Despite my years of IM experience, I'm just starting to use facebook on a regular basis..only for making money, though.

It seems that you need to really target groups that have an interest in what you're marketing....basic principle.

You can even start your own group and get others to send potential leads to your group because they're interested in the subject.

You have to join better groups. Also your posts to the group should be quality content that brings something useful to the group. You should not just post links to your site / fan page.

Rather than joining groups, why dont you laser target people using the Facebook search engine. I wont say it bring a lot but it will certainly be better. What type of groups are you targetting? More importantly how are you reaching out to them?

Got me intrigued on this one. Interested to find out

In my opinion, there are two main things wrong with Facebook. People are going there to socialize and not do business. So, right out of the starting gate, you have a distraction battle going on there. Reflecting back on all of the times I bought stuff on the Internet, usually I was looking for a product or a solution to something. So my motives were usually set in place to buy something. Facebook would be the last place I would look for a product.

The other problem is that FB will have you commenting and doing other things besides BUSINESS! Too distracting for most of us.

I'm hardly a FB expert, but one of the things I've noticed is that groups that are open to everybody and allow advertising/promotional posts tend to make lists of "free advertising" resources. Pretty soon, all you see are the promos. In a way, it kind of reminds me of the old Usenet newsgroups (RIP).

It only really works if you have a moderated page where people actually discuss and interact and allow trusted members to post content. Otherwise it's just a spam fest and you're lost in the crowd.

I think it depends of the niche you're in.

In my experience, I noticed that In the MMO or MLM niche, people all want to sell you their opportunity, no one inter-acts in these posts!

A lot of these groups out there are "Link Farms".

Now I'm talking as a list builder & product creator ...

Here's how I use FB groups :

1. I create my own products (e-books, PDF reports...)

2. I sell these products for $1-9$ just to get them on my buyers lists( Think back-end sales, not the products themselves.)

3. I add my own FB group banners in these PDF's to build groups of => buyers <=.

4. So when I post through my groups, I make sales each time because my groups are reserved to ONLY buyers and Private to access!

5. A good way to do this is to build a Private Mastermind Group for example!

Bottom line, it all depends how you use your tools & strategies.

Sounds like you're just not in the right groups. Find groups that align with your interests and 'share' things along those same lines and getting traffic won't be a problem. Getting conversions is a whole other issue.

Its only worth while if you find ad group, where there lots of interaction and a community of people that help each other, or make you own fb group and use it to make a community and then promote your stuff in it sometime.

A lot of group are filled with shameless promotion, but I'm sure there are a few good ones out there. I'd put more energy into building your businesses' FB audience by posting good content that draws interactions.

My two cents: Facebook Groups work absolutely! With some campaigns I run, it get over 1500+ visitors to my site which is pretty good if you ask me for a ''free'' Ad.

I think you are right saying that the Internet Is To Darn Big.

It is which is why IMO a lot will fail due to not putting in the necessary effort involved in creating and developing a strategy to get more visitors.

IMO it cannot be done overnight.

Im just starting out myself but see a group of 10,000 group members as a vast sea of sharks. And you seem to be looking for a bite. They'll just eat you all up.

I'd advise going for a smaller pond where the QUALITY outweighs the Quantity.

If you're looking for JVs you more likely to come accross a whale.

Ok enough with the metaphores and analogies.

I agree - Facebook groups definitely work. What I always do before joining a group is scan what is being shared. You can usually tell if it's just about everyone promoting their own links. I also look at the number - not too small and not too big. And I look at the rules. In some cases, they will allow you to promote your own business but only once a week. And I look for interaction among the members. Also, when joining a group, you may want to "think outside the box". For example, I am interested in wellness groups, but I also joined a personal development group and a mastermind group that was a great way of connecting with people.

The things I learnt about group advertising..

1. Pick a smaller group at first, 100-500 members, and pick a few of these groups
2. Comment and interact in these groups without posting any links or adverts to establish yourself as an authority, and build rapport
3. After a week or so, post a long, descriptive post with your link. (If you liked and commented on peoples pages, then they will respect you back

As always social media needs selling without selling.

It is all about building relationship and get people to trust you, Similar to what you do with an email list but less effective. At least that's how it turned out for me.

Facebook groups works if you are in right group. You need to find group where people are interested to your content. I see there are so many spam groups where people are busy with self promotion.

As a blogger, i have great list of facebook groups where i promote my blog. You notice that many pro blogger suggest facebook groups for driving traffic. Most of their blog traffic comes from facebook!

If you want to make the big bucks, go for Twitter and LinkedIn

On th opposite, Facebook is very restrictive about advertising. Facebook accounts get deleted very fast when they detect even one single link of advertising any product, affiliate or your own

If we post on FB groups with less than 10000 members, it works.

David, you would be correct in thinking that most are just showing up and posting their 'advert' and sitting back waiting for traffic. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Most people on social media are in browse mode. Sure they make click like or even comment but to generate real traffic to your website you will need to follow few correct steps. I won't go into full detail but rather just make this quick for you. Research what content is being shared in your niche (there are many tools to help with this). This will keep you on right path of content creation. Find out who is doing the sharing. These are people you will target once your shredding with awesome content. If your not getting traffic its because your content is not correctly aligned to needs of your niche and you are not getting right people to help broadcast your message.

Actualy I never tried this before, because it might be difficult by many reasons like:
- ad blindness by group members(much better would be gaining attention of people by publishing quality content made by you or your copywriter. Drive those people into your facebook fans or followers and then try to improve your relation with them)
- fake accounts in groups
- group is already dead(old, no response from admin, no more content, people are still inside, but do not care about anything which is coming out from it)
- propably even more factors ...

As somebody before said, would be better to create your own group and control who is inside. Drive fans into group and members into fans.
