spent $100 on facebook ads with no results?

Hello,

Last week, I setup a facebook paid ad campaign with 3 different ad variations. I made sure ad was super targeted based on targeting options provided by facebook itself.

After 4 days of spending $25 per day, I got few clicks but 0 sale. I checked my analytics accounts and it reports much fewer clicks from facebook than originally reported by facebook

I then checked profiles of people who liked my ad, non of them were even close to my target audience.

Really disappointed with Facebook paid ad results.

Can you tell me what am I doing wrong?

I'd recommend just going 1 day with a $25 spend.

That one day is usually all you need to know if you are getting a good CPC / sales / profit.

That's an easy way to save yourself $75 and / or at least change parts of your campaign

If you are new you should be setting your budget must lower like $5. As far as what you are doing wrong there can be many things. What kind of image are you using? how are you targeting your demographics, are you using CPC or CPM and so on and so forth. There are a lot of factors to consider. I would watch a facebook ad tutorial or something or purchase a facebook ad WSO or something similliar

I can only repeat that you should lower your daily spending limit as a first measure, to keep your possible losses as low as possible.

Regarding the tutorial or WSO, I've posted a very long, very detailed thread about the potential risks of facebook marketing two days ago, but it got deleted (even tho the feedback was 100% positive), I was advised to refer to my blog post instead: Facebook Marketing 1 on 1. In this article I'm describing some of the reasons why you might be seeing very bad results, even tho you're running a very targeted campaign.

There are examples on WF, that it is possible to earn good money from fb campaigns, but you have to be quite careful about what and how you promote it.

Most clicks from Fb show up in Google Analytics under direct traffic, so I have to write my own script to traffic the results of FB campaign.

    1) You won't make sales in a few days unless you sell T-shirts or something. People need to visit a page a few times before making purchase decision.

    2) The landing page design on FB is different from the one used for search traffic beuase visitors are at different stages of buying decision.

With knowing the niche, landing page etc, hard to tell what went wrong or not wrong at all.

you can use tools like Fb group snatcher or Social lead freak. These will help you target your niche group by scraping user ID's from the groups they join. many people on Fb join groups which will let you know their interest.

Did you ever try to optimize your ads? You CAN'T just let it run for 4 days. 90% of the ads will not achieve your desired goals on the first day. That's why you need to keep on optimizing it, change the ad copy, pause low-performing ad images, etc..

$100 is not really a big enough budget, for starters. As far as "few clicks" that really doesn't tell us much if you had 15-20 clicks and got 0 sales then I would deem that campaign incomplete. I wouldn't touch paid advertising with a small budget unless 1) It's an extremely targeted product/service to an extremely targeted demographic or 2) the CPC is extremely low to get a better idea of clicks/sales ratio. Given the information you've provided, there really is no solid advice to give.

Were you doing a "LIKE" campaign?

    Also, what we're you promoting?

Provide as much detail as possible so we can give you clear answers/solutions.

But $100 is definitely too much for a test, but that depends on what you're promoting and how much it is.

Say for instance, I'm selling a product where the commission is $25. The most I'd spend on ads would be $25, to as high as $50 MAX. I'll spend what I'll make on ads, maybe double it.

    Hey Everyone,

Thank you for your advice and tips.

However, all of you missed my main point, which is targeting.

If I was running an ad like this on google adwords, I would be sure it will reach right target audience.

But not the case with facebook. Facebook showed my ad to people who had nothing to do with product I offered, which is related to Email Marketing

Instead it was shown to a completely different group of advertisers.

And number of clicks FB showed me was way more than what I could see in google analytics and StatsConunter

I really am doubtful about FB ad system regarding accuracy of stats and targeted marketing.

So essentially, you wanna know if there's better ways of running ads with laser targeted audiences?

The answer to that is yes. You'd have to use the custom audiences feature. And for that, you have to understand the concept of user ids.

Every user has an id on FB, and if you know this you can create an audience with these ids, to be targeted by a set of ads. For that, you need to use scrapers, that can get you these ids in bulk.

For e.g, say I wanna create an ad for pet products, so I find related groups, and using the scraper, I can get all the uids of the members of that group. And then create an audience w these ids, and run my ads targeting them.

So yeah, targeting can be achieved better. But it's not enough. As everyone has said, you need to test, optimize and constantly monitor your ads. Drop what's not working and you'll find your success formula.

Agree with many of the above. Test TEST TEST.

I have ran a few relatively successful FB Ad campaigns.
However, without much detail it's difficult to give insights into how to improve or what was wrong incorrectly.

If you'd like, send a PM with information regarding your campaign and the specifics of your targeting and I'd be glad to give it a quick once over and give some tips.

People need to understand that Facebook ads is not for SALES. It is for building your BRAND, building your audience. If your ad campaign is successful it may convert into real sales one day if you continue to stimulate your audience with a good social media marketing. If you want to sale something right now, you need to use Google ads. Why? Because people use google to find exact thing online. i.e. they are interested in it, they have a need for it. It means that there are a good chance they will click on your relevant ad and purchase it. People go to Facebook to boost their social life, not to buy something or find what to buy. The only great thing about Facebook ads is that they will be aware of you and your products and when the time comes there is a possibility that will come to you. So in a nutshell, Facebook= building audience, Google= instant sales. Is it clear now? If not, feel free to start a discussion and I will provide you with more details.

There can be many factors leading to this. However what I would recommend is to give away freebies first instead of a sales promo. Think abt it, how comfortable will an average joe be to take out his credit card details and buy from someone he nv meet before. Hence probably you could offer sth valuable first, and slowly build a rs with ya subs. Once u gain their trust, you will start to buy from u when u promote a sales.

    First note;
FB ads are not make for direct sales, neither the FB user is in buying mode on facebook.

Then when you have a new FB page, you must spend on ads to build brand, also get fans/likes, build at first 1000 fans before you do step Nr. 2.

Then when you have fans, post content on it, the first content you must spend little as $5 to reach it out, so that more fans see your content and can share it so you get traffic....

After then when you have setup these steps first, then do FB ad campaign, but only to build a email list not to make direct sales. Give value in your list and then you will make sales from your list, not from facebook.

Note; (correct me if I wrong)
FB has changed some rules.... when you do ad campaign to target people, groups, when you have selected groups with the FB ad manager tool, then set your campaign to CPM, not CPC, only with CPM you forces facebook to deliver the ads to your selected groups/target interests, with CPC not.

Selected target interests and groups - set CPM bid not CPC. If the ctr is lower than 0,05% (who is nothing in my eyes, other PPC traffic has way higher ctr), if this is the case, only than switch to CPC bid.

Last note; read marketing studies, learn from it, then you will see, that cold traffic visits your site 4-7 times again before they buy your product.
