With the reach going down, is it still worth it to build Facebook fan pages?

I'd say yes, but also find ways to advertise properly to get the best reach. (targeted, custom audiences, etc). They reduced reach on purpose and getting our pennies now.

Yes because you never know how well it will work.

Reach may be down, but many pages still do really well with Facebook.

After helping people build hundreds of Facebook pages to more than 30 million collective fans over the last year and a half as well as having my own page at 750,000 likes currently, I have to say that most of the time people completely waste their effort on Facebook pages. While occasionally a page is successful, more than 95% of pages are an utter failure. Unless you have an excellent plan and product in place, you are better off building a website, YouTube channel, Twitter following, or other resource online.

We have allot of our own pages as well as helping others manage theirs,
I do agree with the above user that a good 90%+ of people are wasting their time on facebook pages, i think too many people don't engage with there audience they simply post a status... theres no "What's your favourite drink ?!" etc and other engaging questions at the end to get a response

Yes its worth to make it. But make sure that you get targeted likes and visitors and do not involve in practices like buying likes.

Just because reach is going down doesn't mean there aren't still millions of people you can market to in your niche. Fanpages can be very effective if you build up the right audience

Just a FYI to everyone. Facebook is not lowering reach. Its going down because page owners are all competing with each other (and with the fans friends) for timeline slots. Want to stop your reach from going down? Post better content.

I completely agree with above. Its all about engagement. With few simple techniques and very small amount of time you can rump up engagement and get a bigger bang for your buck. I simply Googled "facebook engagement" and than implemented what I found. I managed to get "talking about" up all the way to 55%.

In a lot of situations, especially when it comes to networking, the more the merrier. You never know when a serious lead will surface. With the ease FB has made it to create a fan page, it would be lack of foresight not to take advantage of it. However, don't totally rely just on a FB fanpage. Spread your wings with multiple modes of networking.

Yes, it is.. but build it just to build it? No... you've got to have a plan to post what your market wants and likes.

Things that go viral. And have a related, or very close way, of monetizing your traffic/LIKES/fans immediately, or almost immediately.

Facebook is absolutely still worth it. I tell my clients that yes, Facebook is frustrating, but it is still where the vast majority of the customers are located, so you can't afford to jump ship.

Keep plugging away, learn some key strategies to working WITH the algorithm, and post regularly -- at least 2-4 times a day.

      Good luck!

Good advice. I think it's like anything social, if you have the resources to do it, do it. If not, it will be a struggle. It also has to be said that each social network/platform is different and will require a different approach i.e what works on Reddit is different from what works on Facebook.

Definitely! Facebook is one of the most powerful social networking sites. There are no reasons why you shouldn't use it and maximize its features. I too use Facebook pages for my website. It's effective!
