Getting Past The Twitter 2000 Following Limit

So I've been stuck near the Twitter 2000 following limit for a while now. The problem is that I have quite a few people that I am actually following who aren't following back. Large authoritative accounts that I enjoy reading. Would it be worth it to buy some followers for the sole purpose of breaking through this following limit? Or do you guys think it's too risky?

    Hi UU,

A question: Are you really reading content from 2K people?

If so, and you want to make sure that you see their tweets, you can add people to a Twitter list without following them. When you open the designated list, you can view their posts. Consider sorting your must-read Twitter accounts into themed groups and creating corresponding Twitter lists.

Go to your Twitter account>>Me>> Lists to view your lists.

To add people to lists, go to their Twitter page, and click on the gear symbol. From there you can add or remove people from lists.

Regarding breaking the 2K limit: You MUST unfollow people to break this barrier. I'd suggest using an app or service to unfollow accounts who aren't following you back. Just Unfollow is great. Start with the free plan, and decide whether the paid version makes sense to you.

Never pay for Twitter followers; they're fake accounts, and they might even get you banned.

    Good luck.

    Hope this helped a little.

I do unfollow people it's just when you're near this limit it makes it incredibly slow to build up your followers. I use TweetAdder and I normally wait about 10 days to see if people will follow back (some people seem to take awhile). So let's say I'm at about 1950 following and 1800 followers, I follow 50 people and hit the limit now I have to wait 10 days to see who follows back. So it's been taking awhile, nice tip with twitter list though that could help out a lot actually.

Make sure all of your accounts are 'active' accounts by using UnTweep. I am social media manager for 2 Twitter accounts and I had over 500 accounts inactive over 90 days. You want Twitters who are engaging weekly at least. It's a free app, so I'd check on your 'inactive' accounts and go from there.
