I have used youtube as a strategy to rank non competitive long tail keywords in the past, recently I used a vimeo and found that it ranked quite well as well.

Whats the general opinion on ranking,

Vimeo or Youtube? And why?

Keep in mind youtube has stricter rules for generating fake traffic/likes etc that vimeo does not.

So you can often get away with sending a scrapebox/gsa blast and buying some likes/views/etc to boost a vimeo account quickly. Where this is tougher to do with YT.

Vimeo and Youtube are both good, but I keep the focus on getting real traffic. Anything unethical just ends up hurting you in the long run.

Agreed, seems like something new. I just noticed one of my brand new vimeo videos ranking on the first page with ZERO backlinks.

Sorry Dana, i completely disagree. This is IM and ranking, it is WAR.

YT and Vimeo both are authority sites and blasting them (as they are para-sites) with links is the best way to go about things if you want to rank.

The more views a video has the higher it ranks in google.

Both are best websites for long tail keywords but mostly SEO consultant explained YouTube is more best because you know who is running you tube?

So you think youtube is better because Google is running youtube. Its possible.

But there is a lot of spam on youtube as well. And a lot of people gaming it lately.

WAY you much spam. I've been searching there more lately for video's and I end up wading through 90% junk and ads. Doesn't seem like they have many people watching what's getting uploaded.

I agree, youtube seems to have really fallen off lately, so perhaps bigG has noticed and is changing their algo accordingly?

Curious to see what type of other results people who use YT to rank are experiencing.

Unless you've got a reason not to use both RDS then test this yourself. The only way to know for sure is to test. But if you use both and one ranks, all is good.

I am also surprised more of the junk does not get flagged. It use to be that you'd get flagged quickly and easily. I once tried putting up a dumb video and it got chopped fast.

I don't do enough on Youtube to give any stats worth anything.

This is an interesting thread. I have both Youtube and Vimeo accounts, because as has been pointed out earlier, Vimeo, seems to be for the professional type of videos, which are not IM or home based business type, whereas on YouTube, you can upload, IM videos and get good rankings, if the keywords are right.

IMO, why not use both, see what ranks better and stick with that

    Applied education is the difference

Thanks for weighing in Dave, so your accounts you have the same videos/keywords/descriptions of the same video on both?

That would really be the way to test this.

Is there such a thing as a duplicate video content? I highly doubt it.

So perhaps I will load a new video to both YT and Vimeo. Exact same keywords/description etc and see what happens. A case study per say.

Anyone else have anything to add to this thread on ranking with YT/Vimeo and/or using blasts (likes/views/gsa scrapebox etc)

Not sure about Vimeo, but you never know when someone might kill your account on YouTube. Had that experience about a month back. Suddenly, my channel, which was about different money topics and did not violate any copyright laws, was taken down for supposedly violating community standards.

Cannot figure out what in the world happened. The only thing I can think of is that a competitor attacked it with false flags and got it taken down.

So, my point is to be careful with Youtube as you never know when you might lose your channel, even when you have not done anything wrong.

      EXACTLY!

I recently had a YT video get banned/blocked for TOS of manipulation of views. I do not think that I will run into similar problems with Vimeo

(I'm new to vimeo so its just a hunch)

Thats why i'm curious what other people have experienced with these two competitors.

Yes there are more youtube users than vimeo users.

    My question is about ranking.

And/or what techniques people use to do so.

It depends on what you want to do and achieve.

If you are looking at ranking on YouTube then fake likes is likely not to work and Vimeo becomes an option IF only Vimeo generates sufficient internal traffic though.

If it's comes to ranking on the SERP I don't see any difference between YouTube and Vimeo.
It's just about your On and Off Site SEO.

So to respond to this, if youtube is much stricter in their rules than vimeo, and we know that the more views a video receives the higher it goes in the SERPS.

How would youtube know what is "fake" in terms of views/likes if they don't actually flag the video.

Then perhaps Vimeo is the preferred choice if you are putting videos on solely to rank them.

Being the best known does not necessarily equal to the best rankings in bigG.

So ranking in youtube is very different than ranking in google.
