YT advertising - optimal overlay/image

Hi,
I'm new to YT ads and I'm trying to clarify some stuff before I let my campaign run.

1/ Can I add anything clickable on the video? Other than the small bit (expandable) in the left corner of the screen? For example an image? ( there is an option to upload an image up to 150 kb - should I use it?)

The thing about this overlay is that it's so small (25 characters of text + display url) that I can't say much in there.
I added an image but only a small thing is showing on top of the overlay. I also added annotation in YT account on top - also a small thing and I suspect it won't show anyway....

2/ Should I use "keywords" from keyword research in the "keywords" tab? If I understand correctly those will be keywords people type in in yt search box when looking for something. In an article in Search Engine Watch author suggests to use "youtube keyword tool" but it seems to be dead at the moment.

I would appreciate any tips for a beginner. My budget to test waters is $500 and I have 4 video ads already uploaded to the channel

I also don't know if this kind of budget I should make different segments (with different interests etc) or just one.

Thanks in advance guys,
JJ

Hi! If you use graphics you can make them clickable inside of youtube (to your channel, to subscribe, to other channels, etc.) using annotations. Keep in mind, some people turn annotations off so it's best practice to also put your clickable links in the description. In the description you can also put external links (to your site/product).

For the keywords, remember people search differently on youtube than they do on google. For the tool, I think they discontinued it (or plan to) so you might want to roll the dice on ad words and see what you come up with. Also as part of your research make sure to search for your main keywords yourself on youtube and analyze the results. (how they are keywording, their titles, etc.)

Also, once your video is live, make sure to make a custom thumb (sized to your full size video) for it. A good thumb makes a world of difference just keep in mind it needs to be relevant to your video.

    Good luck!

thank you mate. This video will be primarily used as an in-stream advertisement, so descriptions etc are not my main focus. But still - this is good advise for the future

I usually do truview instream ads only because those are running at the lowest cost per view for me and allow me to make as for a lot of videos quickly. If you test a lot of audience combinations and see who watches the largest % of your video, you can figure out a combination that is ideal.
