    None has right to decide backlinks are important or not because they were important to seo, they are and will be. Because it is need of the search engine, search engine uses backlinks to understand your website and rank them. You know the answer well because you are still giving backlinks to your site through signature. M I right?

    Matt cutt said backlinks are playing huge role ranking website but google become more smart and giving value to the natural backlinks and less value to other backlinks. So we can say backlinks are still important less or more is controversial question and nobody knows the perfect answer.

    Word of mouth is usually what backlinking is so I would assume it would always be important. I'm not sure about the whole "no-follow" thing since I was told it doesn't matter, just as long as backlinks are created. Don't listen to me though, I'm a noob still lol

    I'm building backlink every day. But the problem is, I don't know which backlink is working and which one is not. The backlinks I see on ahrefs.com is not showing on Webmaster Tool. And Webmaster Tools is not showing the backlinks that's showing on ahrefs.com. Anyone knows what's wrong with these backlink check tools?

      Back links are still very important. Think of when you are on the internet and arrive at a site and wonder how you got there. It was probably through a link.

      Search engines recognize that this 'linking' process is what makes people surf the net. And sites are 'rewarded' based on the number and quality of the links that link to it.

      So keep on back linking.

    relevant niche connected backlinks to your site signify the authority it carries to the search engines, which rank your site accordingly (one of the factors that are extremely important). don't try and do this overnight. SE's and their algo's are quite smart in detecting wheat from the chaf links to your site get discovered as the pages you have posted your links on - get "discovered" or indexed and your authority improves or goes down depending on what is pointing to your site, taking your keyword position up or down.

    Backlinking is not the only factor though. Process starts with you and your site. Keywords, on page seo, social metrics are things that you should look at very closely.
