[Solved] Can I make money from my Facebook group??

by bsurb
47 replies
I started a private Facebook group almost 2 years ago and I have over 600 legit members. Lots of them are very active and what not and I get requests to join the group every single day.

The group is based on a certain model of a car and its broken down to Florida residents ONLY. Now I made a SMF forum before and tried getting everybody to merge on over but Facebook seems to be very user friendly and easy to access it makes it hard to merge people over.

Any ideas on what I could do or create to make some money off of this group? Its growing each and every day.

Start a blog, put up some ads on it, write a post and promote it on your group. Bam ad revenue.

  • I don't think making money from the group is a good idea.

I agree that start a blog is the way but if you think about promoting, it is such a bag idea.

The best way is sharing good things.

You want them to treat you as a friend, not an advertiser.

I started the blog. I set up adsense on the top and sidebar but I will be posting lots of good content on how to install parts on your cars, post feature rides of the members cars, things like that.

I also installed a classifieds plugin for people to post ads to sell their parts.

You could ask money from them directly (just kidding!)

Well, you could do quarterly meet ups outside online and set up event about your car interests (if that is what your group is about) A small fee wouldn't hurt. Also, car parts are a commodity and ask them if you can be the middleman to take care of their needs with a small price.

I don't know much since I haven't made something of this model, but if ever I would do-- this is the way I'll do it.

You can make money with facebook groups if you have blog/website or any affiliate programs.
you need to share your websites/ blogs in groups , and they will visit your site and you will get traffic and if your blog is monetized with some ads. then you may make money.

Yup...try and make your money off Facebook. Monetizing Facebook almost never works. Think of it like this...Facebook is basically a giant funnel to send traffic to your website. Once users click that link, they are in your world. They're going to be looking for something cool and useful; however, they will also be more receptive to advertising there. If you try to promote products on Facebook, it will just turn everyone off to your posts.

I think that's sage advice, and is the tactic I'm following. Although I'm very new to this, your analysis rings true with how I think Facebook ads are perceived, vs. how ads are received on a dedicated website (which can appear to offer more value). Anyway, that's exactly how I think of Facebook--a funnel to direct traffic to my site.

I'm finding the exact opposite to be the case. As long as your page is highly-targeted to a specific group of people, you should be able to advertise relevant products to them via Facebook.

For example, if you have a Facebook page full of dog owners, you know you have a group of people who are ready to purchase all sorts of dog-related items. Bring the right offers to your page members and you'll be able to sell to them time and time again.

Of course, it's a good idea to drive traffic to your website first, so you can capture e-mail addresses, but more often than not, the traffic comes to my website looking for more information on a specific product they're interested in. Once they reach my site, it's up to me to convince them they can't live without that product.

I don't want to charge them fee's for the group. Even though that would sound more logical back when I first started it. I have over 600 members in the group who drive the same car. We sometimes have local meet ups for a BBQ and to show off our cars.

If I post some good content on the site or offer something I am sure they will return.

yes you can earn but by indirect way! Now a day facebook comes under 1st position in alexarank. You can make fan page and get lots of likes. Then you can earn lots of money by promoting others goods or website in your Facebook page in return of money.

Hey, I think you are quite on the right track.

    Here is the thing, Wikipedia.

They are the boss in this.

They have every single content you want.

Why do people want to check your blog post if they can easily find it on Wiki?

Since you say the group meet each other before, it is a good idea to share stories related to the content.

    Remember.

    They need to remember you.

    That is the point.

Putting ads for click on you blog is a good idea.

In your post, remember to tell them to do it.

You need to make a call for action so they will know.

This is the mistakes of many newbies.

    They scare of making offers.

There should be a reason WHY your customers need to ACT NOW as well.

If you want to learn more about it, check my site and my group.

I have tips there for you to get start with Facebook and things.

I made the same mistake of not making a offers and that is why I don't get buyers.

It has been a really long and painful time for me to get give information without calling for action.

So, if you want to learn through you the mistakes and take all the pain, go for it.

It is way easier for you to just join a group or check the blue print of people who did it before.

The quicker you do, the quicker you success.

    1. Follow pop culture and if a big event happens, create a group around it. Try and be the first to do so and people will join like mad. Example: When Heath Ledger died and "The Dark Knight" came out, someone created a group entitled "Heath Ledger Deserves a Post Humous Academy Award for his Role in the Dark Knight." Not the shortest title but it gained more than 1,000,000 members within the month.

    2. Play off of Nostalgia. A group called "If you remember this you grew up in the 90's" has almost 2 million members. It is all about discussing things about the 90's that people loved.

    3. Experiments like 6 degrees of separation where the only point of joining the group is to participate in an experiment. These groups ask you to invite all of your friends and usually go viral. This is the kind of group I sold (now has more than 2 million members).

If your group feels more comfortable staying on Facebook, then let them stay there. Many ways to monetize a group including affiliate offers, letting someone pay for a weekly sticky post (one allowed per group). You could allow members to advertise for a small fee.

What would I charge them though.? The only sticky post I have is the rules for the group. We sell car parts. That is it. What if I connect a drop shipping company through my blog? Selling our cars parts?

I've seen many WSOs about "Start your own private craigslist!"
Basically your own private classified ads site (WP).

You could maybe charge a little for people to post ads on that.
Then promote that (non-FB) site to the members of your FB group.

Just an idea that would not cost much to try!

    -- TW

PS: Of course you'd have to first prohibit people from posting
for sale or wanted ads (free), inside your FB group!

I think you can easily join to Ads Network and promote related offers in your group.

Also don't forget to post valuable content so your post go viral and you will attract new members in your group.

A blog could be good, but you not going to make much with 600 people. If these were 600 trusted marketer you could have made some okay money

They are all interested in car PARTS. Specifically for one model. A Honda Civic. They do a lot of buying/selling used parts from each other but a lot of them are always looking for new parts. Maybe if I can just find a business who can whole sale my these parts but its nearly impossible. They go on ebay for them.

In all Internet Marketing you really have to get out of bed and ask what can you do for other people today?

Be helpful. Create a helpful Resource people would appreciate

You will make sure it is very detailed and very informative and people will be willing to compensate you for that.

    A certain type of car?

Where can people find parts? Auctions, accessories, matching clothing like T shirt or hat campaigns, toy models of that car updated regulatory laws for customization, meet ups for car enthusiasts, buy and sell finders fee,

Add as much value as you can.

Never underestimate the power of a resource saving people a lot of searching and time..

They will thank you for it and they will be willing to pay you for it.

  • Build a blog and try to put in some affiliate links and products to monetize it. After that, you can share these links to your group. This makes a highly concentrated traffic source since you have already built trust with your audience. Just make sure you write excellent content to earn their attention and interest all the more.

600 Followers/Likers are not that much, don't expect to make money from it right of the bat unless you're someone really reputable and trusting within your circle of 600. If not I'd advice you to concentrate on the grow of the account first.

Did you watch the "social network" movie, how mark zuckerberg didn't want to put ads at first and insisted, its the same way with building a community.
