Click to Website Question

I started a click to website campaign to a landing page with a video that was set on auto-play. I monitored the campaign through out the day, watching Youtube views. By the end of the day the Youtube views were 19 (the same as it started at the beginning of the day - no change) However, Facebook said I had "21 clicks" to the website.

I tested the link and it was fine. I clicked through and the video auto-played and the view count rose by one.

I contacted Facebook and explained what happened and asked what was going on. I received "we're not responsible for 3rd party tracking..." and the girl stated "I verified the link and the video does not auto-play" and provided the link. I immediately clicked through and the video "auto-played".

For some reason, I believe Youtube views should have increased, if 21 clicks were made to the page with the video. Some could have stopped the video before it counted as a view, but I would assume they would have to have known ther was a video to react fast enough.

My question(s) are - Should I be concerned about the situation or is Youtube's view count, that inaccurate? Has anyone else had this situation?

  • have you tested the youtube video in multiple browsers, what does the youtube thumbnail show before the video is playing, if its not something interesting or eye catching it could count for the 0 plays

send me the url and ill take a look

its an accidental click. Like me when Im playing flash ads are popping up and im accidentally clicking on it and closes it immidiately.

I beleive that's what happened in your case. A click is a clikc on facebook and view if your video did not play the same second as the user clicked on "X" then its not counted on YT but is counted on FB

    NO analytics is perfect.
So there is always a chance of 1-5% error.
Every application has different parameters to calculate.

Thanks for your replies. Since I am having trouble targeting related businesses, it is probably people that are interested in the event and not exhibiting at the event who clicked the ad. I just thought it was strange, since this happened to all 21 clicks. Not one had registered as a view on YT.
