How do Instagram accounts grow virally?

Can someone help me understand how Instragram accounts grow?

For example I know like on Facebook when people like a page, like a post, comment a post, share, etc.. then all of their friends will see this which can create the viral aspect.

But on Instagram, when people like photos or comment on photos then none of their friends see it.

So how do Instagram accounts catch momentum and really start to go viral organically?

Instagram Accounts grow by mass following/liking people and posting quality content. First of all you should go get yourself soem bot followers though otherwise you will get banned pretty fast.

Yes I know they can grow by following/liking photos etc.. but besides that how are they growing virally? Accounts with 1 million followers didn't follow millions of people.

This. Definitely this. They focus on the content first. It's easy to use analytics after that to scale through statigram/iconosquare and then schedule posts per peak hours of engagement, but you need content that works first.

people who creates these pictures are great. Check out the content of the viral pic. Its not shitty right? that's the first step. create a picture worth sharing and liking.

After that I believe from a personal perspective and experience in Instagram what they are doing is People 1 with tons of followers uploads the pic. Hires someone from fiverr on a day by day basis like 3 straight days to like their pics then it goes on and on and on. Or if someone with a million followers likes the pic you uploaded from their niche, then you just hit jackpot

yes exactly. then when their followers liked your picture as well then all their 2ndary followers will see it as well. and if one of the follower followers liked the pic then the 4th network of newsfeed will see the pic as well. Same as facebook networking

That's why you need to have a great picture in the first place worth sharing with

If that is the case then this is the exact type of answer I was looking for. Nobody else seem to understand the question.

But are you 100% sure about this?

yes you can do testings as well with 2 phones if you want to verify yourself. Have your 1st account like a pic and the 2nd account that follows you will see the pic and you can like it on the 2nd account as well. That's why tons of Instagram marketers are targeting followers in the first place

MichaelBartley post is also a great way, make use of it as well

Agreed with the statement, thanks for sharing this information here.
By posting your images, following others and sharing the links into the social networking site is also very useful.
This is one of the best platform for increasing the popularity of your business resources.

As others have said, just get some fake followers in the beginning and search for a follow/unfollow bot (there are lots of them) and wait for the results, it is not as hard as it seems getting 500k-1 mil followers if it is done the right way, also be careful to not follow too many people at once.

You are missing the point of my question. I'm not asking how to grow accounts by following others etc.. I am asking how accounts grow organically.

At some point an account can just take off and grow fast without doing any following of others at all. So when this is happening, how is that account getting so much exposure to grow? Do their photos show up on the main news feeds more when they start to gain so many followers?

If you have great content then people will like/follow you, it's that simple. Instagram really isn't that hard, but I still prefer to market through Facebook.

That is what I mean. How do people even know you have great content in the first place? Where are they finding the account and photos from?

By networking, having people that you meet follow you or by placing hastags in your photo's caption, people can easily find you.

So when an account goes crazy viral and gains 20,000 fans in a day it's because thousands of people are searching for the hashtags that account photos were using?

I think it's something more than this. When something catches fire and grows viral it's because there is something specific happening which is causing it.

I still feel everyone is not clearly understanding my question. Wish I could explain my question better somehow.

Other than a post going into the popular page, or your account getting shared on a different site you can't really go viral.

Since there are no share features you are really just getting people from tags, or from you follow/liking them with a bot.

You got to have a good photo. If it gets 500 likes in that first minute, that's a good indication. It's all about the comments. Followers come in is people adding their friends on the photo. They post a comment-tag their friends-prompt a notification- pass the post along.

hi i have been marketing on IG for awhile now. this is not the only way to do it but it works for me.

i basically access my account via webstagram dot com (after doing my hashtag research of course)… (instawaves dot com is a good source for trending hashtags on IG.)

Go type in a hashtag for your niche then find a user with mass followers and use the KWs they use.. (you can see all this on webstagram) you only get 3 to 5 hashtags to use with your account. so i put those in and give my account a keyword rich name to match my 1st or main tag.

ex. main hashtag-#freestuff = username - @freestufftoday or something close thts available.

so now your account shows up in the search because your KW n account name match!

instagrams capabilities were limited before it became a web entity. knowing which tags to use and when to post are your determining factors in virality.

use iconosquare dot com to see when is the best time to post your pics. sort of like facebook metrics with engagement.

Ive gathered over 6k leads from instagram alone so i am trying to explain this from my experience from various tests ive ran.

this is a good organic way to go viral on IG is to do some light SEO like i previously stated to your account just for search purposes. stay targeted!

    hope this helped some!

    best regards,
    Michael Bartley

Generic #hashtags are more effective on instagram. You can try it for yourself. Post a meme and put a hashtag #meme or post a love quotes and use the hashtag #love. With that you are more likely to get noticed and go viral, but make sure you set your account to public.

I love using instagram it's one of the best place to do marketing as long as you upload excellent genuine new stuff on your account you get maximum number of followers even more than pinterest. The trick is to use hash tag with each picture you upload to get maximum number of followers instantly.

I've seen them get popular also if shared on other social networks. Twitter especially. Not necessarily with hashtags (although that's what it can always boost visibility), but if it catches the eye of someone influential.

    You can also get shoutouts.

Where basically someone posts a picture along with your username in it.

Like @jamescanz says you can get shout outs where people promote your account to their following and ask their followers to follow your account. This will get you REAL followers. You can either pay for shout outs which is similar to buying a solo ad or do what's called a shout out for shout out where you and someone with approx. the same amount of followers each tell their followers to follow the other which is completely free and is similar to adswaps. These are the two main techniques I see people using to build their followings large and fast.

    6 Things:

    Good, consistent photos
    Explore Page
    Following Tab (inside notifications page)
    Shoutouts
Shares (from own account, or followers)
    Auto like bots

I've seen accounts go from a few thousand to over 100k in no time and these seemed to be the common 6 things that contributed to growth.

I'm over here just trying to keep my followers number higher than my number of photos LOL

good, consistent photos like gjohansson1 said, hashtags, shoutouts, plus having your instagram connected to your fb (and any other social mediums that they allow) so when you post a pic on instagram it will also post on fb. not only pics, short video clips as well. Also, take advantage of the description, it will show up as the first comment. Find other authority figures in your niche and see who follows them or who they follow and just go follow them as well.... alot will follow back if you have good content (photos). Also, people tend to screencapture and repost pics so make sure you brand all your pics.

It really depends on your niche. Instagram works very well within areas where people like to SEE results, have a visual or be entertained.... examples: weight loss, muscle gain, funny/love quotes, fashion, cosmetics, food, etc...

The best way honestly is to post interesting pictures, use hash tags, search and engage with your targeted audience. Like their photos. Follow them. Comment on their photos without trying to look spammy. It will take time but you will have quality fans instead of fake paid likes and followers that have no engagement.

Hey this might have been said already, but that's not true that on Instagram peoples friends don't see their activity... FaceBook owns Instagram and has pretty much implied everything that happens on Facebook now happens on Instagram.. For me it's with what you post on IG. I mean the photos. First, you have to learn the types of images to increase your social media engagement and gain more followers on Instagram instantly. Second, you combine it with your social media channels. Third, HASHTAGS to connect with people in the same interest. Instagram is more about and building relationships. So show off your personality.

How to Grow Your Instagram Account in Five Steps

There are three other factors that make Instagram very attractive for businesses: visual appeal, engagement, and mobility. This last factor sums up the very nature of the network — Instagram is predominantly a collection of flawless mobile applications that seamlessly connect users through a cloud service. The apps and the levels of interaction they offer make Instagram a visually appealing and highly engaging social network.

Facebook’s ownership of Instagram is, at this point, not as important to the photo sharing social network as it once was. Although the significant influx of users after the acquisition by Facebook was certainly welcome for Instagram, the network has shown that it can hold its own – providing unique value and delivering more engagement. Each day, Instagram offers lots of potential consumer attention.

Here are five ways to grow an Instagram account into a powerful marketing and branding tool:

    Posting Quality, Meaningful Images

Instagram is pretty effective on its own, but it works even better when synchronized with other social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. One of the tenets of Instagram is that no one is a bad photographer. To this end, the various filters and special effects come in handy, but it is more important to make an effort to post quality images that speak to followers.

When it comes to choosing attractive photos to post on Instagram, retailers, manufacturers, and visual artists have it easier than other professionals. The same goes for restaurants and even auto repair shops. What can law firms do? The first step is to find images that are meaningful to clients and prospects on a personal level; the second step is to ensure that only quality photos are posted. For example, law firms located in photogenic cities should encourage their staff to take pictures of the sights around the office and then hold a meeting to review all the photos taken. Only the best-looking pictures should be considered, and different filters and effects should be applied.

    IG is about photos.
    1. Post the best photo you have. or Create photo along side with cool content and caption.
    2. manage account very interestingly and professionally (depends on target). try to use Iconosquare.
    3. Join some community and try repost your own (or other) images, updates there.
    4. follow to be followed. and soon build relationships
    5. Use one or two hashtags per image. Hashtag system is designed to make visual content relevant.

    Hope i helped.
