As for me CamStudio is better. It's easier to use and you can choose to use custom cursors, to record the whole screen or just a section of it and can reduce or increase the quality of the recording depending on if you want smaller videos

Agreed. CamStudio is definitely easier and very flexible to use. It has a simple interface with all the regular functions you'll need for desktop recording. I was able to make really good quality projects with this one.

Fraps or bandicam should be great for it. These programs are not free but they have trial versions and the quality is really good so I totally recommend them.

I would recommend screen o matic.

It is affordable and easy to use with simple editing features.

There are also many YouTube tutorials on how to use screen o matic

If you're mostly planning to post them on youtube, then I'd just use youtube movie maker. If not, then CamStudio gets my vote.

I use Camtasia. It isn't free, but if I am going to get paid for the videos I am creating, then the cost is a non-issue.

CamStudio and camtasia as the others are saying but let me add something in the mix

Use dvdvideosoft to convert it into any formats. and its free and fast. converts and creates everything you can possibly get in any media types

Doing any kind of video has always been a problem for me....but I keep pluggin' away at it Something just doesn't work right no matter what software program I've tried, free or paid. Camtasia gives me only a few glitches here and there. It's not that it's so "easy" compared to others, but whatever it is has a better logic flow I guess. And, things just plain work.
