I'm not sure how to work with FB for my case

Hello,

I just started an online shop with DIY and sewing material. People I target are female, usually young and very active on FB, sharing things, pictures etc.

I'm male, not that interested in those products (they are nice but I'm more in the technical area behind it) and can't share many things since I very seldom /almost never sew anything by myself.

Now I started with etsy, facebook, twitter etc.
I personally don't know anyone in this area and I don't really want to get my friends involved on FB.

So I started to add strangers as friends and got 2 likes but it seems a bit awkward.

What's your idea?
How can I get through to potential buyers?
How do I get into a conversation with strangers that have accepted my friend request?

Thanks,
Chris

Because I don't have much content on FB yet. Who likes to get invovled with an empty page?

Not sure .. that sounds pretty much like low quality spam.
0 contribution, come and like my almost empty FB page.
Can't imagine that this will be very successful?

You don't need a whole lot on content on your page before you start advertising. If you're selling something people want and are targeting it to the right market, you'll start making sales and your page will start getting likes as a result of your ads.

Ok Chris you can do a FB search for DIY groups, join these groups, then post your FB page with these groups explaining your just starting out and would like people to come and like your page, you can also post into these groups, also I would comment on other people's posts so you don't sound like a spammer.
Have you thought about making a Pinterest page? You can start a page then do a search for DIY go to pinners then click on their followers then follow their followers you will get some people following your page. Pinterest does have limits so you don't want to follow a lot of people everyday. PM me I can show you exactly how.
Also doing FB ads even if you pay $5 a/day you will get some likes.
    Hope this helps

Set up a Facebook page and start a like campaign for a few bucks a day. There are a ton of sewing-related Facebook Interests you can target. I just checked and "sewing" and "Sewing club" are a couple of interests that I would personally target if I were to enter that niche. "Pattern [sewing]" could also be a good one depending on what you're selling.

Once you have a bunch of likes, you can start selling to the people who like your page.

You might want to set up a FaceBook Fan page for this. The fanpage is seperate from your own individual FB page and can be simply for the purpose of promoting DIY. PM for additonal details.

Also, as suggested above joining some of the appropriate groups will help.

Get on Pinterest now if your target audience is crafty (loves to craft) young women as you will find many there who will love seeing your pins. And, you don't have to pin pics of items you have purchased. Just curated pinboards very well and be generous with what you share, not just sharing pics from your site. Share pics from sites that feature fabrics/crafts/how to's from other sites your Pinterest followers might want. Then be sure that your Pinterest account is linked to Facebook and have it set so that every time you pin on Pinterest, it gets announced on your Facebook timeline. Be sure those posts are set to public.

Go on and set up a FB page even if there isn't so much content yet. Make sure that the available content reflects your best outputs in order to be intriguing enough to attract like minds. Then, join a couple of niche groups and generate interest by posting links to your page. It is not spammy, but a normal run on those pages. Buyers throng them too.
Yes, increase your content and do Ads too

And here is the problem .. I'm think I know what customers like (self sewn stuff, free sewing patterns, ...) but we don't have it and producing it costs time and money and proficency.

We did this easy posts with a nice pic of our products for one year now without any sales. It doesn't work.

A ton of great content, that's working, yes. But how do I get the content? I'm trying to work out this issue.

    I say hit the ads.
even without much content, make the ads point to your product page. IE make a post on your FB page (thus adding content) and in ads manager or power editor advertise that post.

each post(s) talk about your sewing products and have a nice pic and a URL to the off-fb page.

start there. that will get clicks to your product page as well as some likes for those interested in following and seeing what you have upcoming.

a start anyways... for social media you need to really dig deep. like the others say, get involved in like minded groups, add a ton of great content (if its a passion of yours that becomes easier to do obviously) etc...

Join groups where majority "female" - groups about cosmetics, fesion, interior etc. That help to make your audience.

For particular customer, you can use facebook ad campaigns.

    Best of luck
