How did I get 1,000+ HIGHLY targeted Instagram followers in 4 days for free? (It's looking like I'll have 1,300+ by the end of today, which is day 5.)

Memes.

If you don't know what a meme is, do a Google Image search for "meme".

I will use "coal mining" as my niche to explain how I did it.

Step 1 - Create a meme account. Something like "@coalminingmemes".

Step 2 - Find existing coal mining memes on the net. They MUST be memes about coal mining. Post 5 or 6 per day, 1-2 hours apart. I also recommend creating your own coal mining memes and posting them. Don't go too crazy posting. 5-8 a day will be enough, and space them out throughout the day. Don't post them all at once. Research the hashtags that your niche uses, and use 15-20 of them on your posts.

Step 3 - Find authority coal mining accounts on Instagram and start following their followers. Don't go too crazy, follow maybe 20-25 at a time, several times a day. I like to follow new people right after I post a new meme, and then at random times throughout the day.

I've had roughly 60% of the people follow me back, on my newest account, resulting in over 1,000 HIGHLY targeted followers, in 4 days, that I didn't have to pay for. I've also had other people follow me too, either from seeing their friends like my posts or from their friends tagging them in the comments of my posts. Memes definitely have a viral nature. The content is key here. People won't follow you if you're not posting great content.

After a few days, I use an unfollow app to unfollow the people that haven't followed me back. This is similar to a Twitter follow/unfollow strategy, but I've found that it is MUCH more powerful on Instagram, with my meme strategy. People are looking to be entertained and memes definitely entertain people.

Tips: Reply to comments on your posts. Like coal mining related posts that the people you follow post. Interact and engage with your followers. Give them a sense of community. I've been getting over 100 likes on just about every post, within an hour or two of posting, and I'm still getting new likes on posts that I made days ago.

Don't go around spamming other accounts in their comments. Not only is it tacky, but remember, your followers can see when you comment on a post, so you don't want to turn existing followers off as well. I only like other related posts, and comment genuine comments on them here and there.

I recommend at least 50 posts before you start to monetize, but here is an example of how to monetize:

Create your own t-shirt, (you could also find a related t-shirt that has an affiliate program). Post an image of the t-shirt and then in the description of the post, use 15-20 coal mining hashtags and also tell your followers that the link for the t-shirt is in your Instagram bio (since you can't post active links in a post). Put the link to the t-shirt in the "website" field of your profile, so they can click through and buy the t-shirt if they like it.

That is just one way to monetize it. Your creativity is the only limit. You could also drive your followers to coal mining related affiliate offers for tangible products, etc.

Another thing that I would recommend is to get your followers onto an email list, and then monetize. I am launching a niche site with this particular account, so my main goal right now is to just get as many targeted followers as I can and launch my site to them. I'm also driving them to other social networks, like Facebook and Twitter, to increase my following on those sites as well.

Hope that helps get the wheels turning, especially if you've been trying to get going on Instagram. I truly believe that Instagram is the best social network out there. Please respect the platform and don't spam people.

Feel free to comment or private message me if you have questions.

P.S. Turn off the Instagram notifications on your phone, or else your phone will be blowing up with notifications!
