Has Freelancer Done ANYTHING Good...

...and if you were them what would you do to turn the situation around (be clear and specific).

Someone asked me the other day if FL had done anything good. Here is my response.

The speed is much better. There have been no, or very few timeouts, which had become common IIRC before.

Paying and bringing on more mods is good. While they still have some learning to do I think they are generally doing a good job.

Access to admin seems to be more available to the regular folk like me. For example, the recent meeting with the CEO in London was something never before done here as far as I know. I've had several interactions with Daniel lately. Likewise, Alaister and Daniel are taking part in threads. All of this is a good direction.

What I would do if I was in charge (easy to be an armchair quarterback but I'll give it a shot):

1. I would immediately eliminate any WSO or other paid offer that included any implication or claim that would lead a reasonable person to believe that there were easy riches, push button solutions, or guaranteed income or results.

2. I would impose immediate and permanent bans on anyone with serious violations of WSO or other paid ad rules. I would track IP addresses, websites, and Paypal addresses or other payment sources in order to help eliminate repeat offenders.

For example, if John signed up with Warrior Payments with an email of john at xyz.com then tried to open another WSO again with the same PP account later but with a different forum username this would be traceable.

3. I would handpick 5-10 advisors and create a member board that I listened to about direction of the forum, ideas for fixing problems, etc. There would be some sort of compensation involved perhaps or maybe they were volunteers with perks. Any major changes would be discussed with the board first. There would be no obligation to follow the board's recommendations but it would be wise in many cases to do so.

4. I would create some sort of paid signup fee and/or eliminate as much as possible the ability for new people or bots to spam. For example. eliminate links until x number of posts or thanks. Require a $1 signup fee that is then even refunded immediately maybe.

5. I would fix the icons. The failure to fix the icons is much more important than anyone seems to get and the fact they haven't been fixed for months after repeated requests to do so, sets a negative precedent and atmosphere.

6. I would create a strong and growing FAQ that included answers to commonly asked questions.

7. I would immediately eliminate the 60 second delay between bad post reporting if possible. If eliminating the delay makes it easier for spammers to post I would not do it. If there was a fear of possible abuse, I would pick the top responsible posters and create an exception to their accounts, if possible, so that they could continue to responsibly report unimpeded by the 60 second rule.

8. I would bring back the "soft delete" feature on reported posts. If a post is reported 4 times or whatever it goes into a review queue after disappearing from normal users view so that mods can decide what to do. If it's okay then it reappears, if not it is deleted or the offending parts deleted.

9. I would clean out all the junk and expired links, etc. from the War Room. I would figure out a way to make it worth the price or lower the price (note adding the WAMA recordings isn't enough in my humble opinion).

10. I would raise the standard on who can post a WSO. If not more money, then more participation, more posts, or something. I would consider that WSO or other paid ad posters would have to verify their identity, address, etc. This could be done seamlessly by requiring as standard CC name, address, billing address, etc. information and then a check to see if it matches the CC account. This may not work for PayPal but it would for CCs from what I know.

11. I would consider requiring a deposit that would be held for 6 months to handle refunds, etc. This would be administered by FL. The funds would be returned at the end of the 6 months minus any refunds that weren't taken care of by the seller. This may be difficult to track with different payment processors being involved but the point is to figure out a way to stop the thief reputation that is associated with the forum and certain sellers.

12. I would consider photo IDs just like FB, PP, and Payoneer do in many instances, in order to run a WSO.

13. I would consider, in addition to the board, implementing the community subforum advocates or whatever FL called them before BUT there would be incentive to participate, members would be handpicked, members would have to have a positive kind of attitude and a spirit and past of helping, etc. The way it was phrased before was kind of like we are going to pay mods but this is like a mod but just not paid if I recall. This would require getting people on your side.

14. I would find other ways to monetize the forum for example through additional paid content or courses like the Kindle book club. As it stands now, WSO sellers aren't making much money and may not bump their WSO and if WSOs listings were cut down by new rules, etc. there would need to be other ways to legitimately fund the new hosting and paid mods.

15. I would thoroughly vet any recommended WSOs that show up in the newsletter or elsewhere. That hasn't been done very well in the past I think. I would also recommend high quality WSOs even though they may use a different payment processor than WP.

16. I would do a better job vetting WSOs before they are approved - as much as possible. Is it reasonable? Is it blind copy? Is there too much hype? Are there income claims?

That's a start. I think some of these would be done immediately and some would be put on the back burner - even if I was in charge. Much of it is just "thinking out loud."

Whose next with their suggestions of what THEY would do? Thoughts on my list?

To answer the question of the OP

    1) WAMA was an excellent addition to a business communty, great idea to bring in business leaders.

    2) they have been very responsive listening and taking suggestions

    3) the rating system is not perfect but provides the first step toward getting a filtering system for sellers that never existed before. Nothing like it existed before

    4) the WSO system although not anywhere near yet is still a step toward a good integrated system for seller s who need it

    5) Mods tend to explain better when actions is taken

    6) FL has recognized the need to clean up income claims and the WSO section. that alone is a huge plus for them

7)FL has shown they can increase the base of users. At this time its actually a detriment but if they can filter out that traffic then it turns into a big plus

    There seven

and not anywhere as hard as the Title of the thread indicates to find thing good FL has done since taken over. With the addition of the ones the OP posted thats quite a few good things.

Mike, that question was asked of me by an admin through PM which is why I used it.

When I posted the title that way I meant for it to be used as a point of reflection. There was not any negativity in my mind when I wrote it that way.

What I'm hoping with this thread is that we can honestly assess the good things that have happened and also have a concise list of things WE would improve if we were in charge versus a bunch of thoughts in a bunch of different threads.

    Thanks for your contribution.

I can see that question coming from an admin considering criticisms but I am just telling you the way it reads. Say it out loud with the standard caps meaning emphasis and you might get how it sounds.

In regard to suggestions I think one issue is so important I won't cloud t with any other

Guys...You MUST institute something that allows serious or long term members to have discussions without being over rode by the swarm of people coming in who have no clue. Its destroying the one thing a forum is about...solid discussion.

I know of several people that just CANNOT take it anymore and are planning to leave by the new year.

In another thread I wrote this

Warrior forums is a few weeks away from total implosion because no meaningful conversation can take place with the new traffic driven here. I don't know if I am allowed to mention another forum but if not a mod can delete the reference. This is Digital Point traffic.

To explain it to the FL guys WF is presently like an Australian Forum in which 20 to 1 posters has never lived or visited there but all have firm opinions as to what its like there and post their ideas as fact nonstop. It would drive any Australian (or any nationality) crazy and away. In the analogy Internet marketing is the Australia topic.

Just about every single senior participating member of the SEO section I participate the most in has indicated they will probably take the new year as a time to leave. That includes me even as a supporter of management. The mind numbing inaccurate information is pushing us out the door in a wave to tall for us to combat.
I suggested the war room be turned into a permission set and advanced forums in each section be set up. That solution has the added factor of increasing the benefit of a war room membership way past what it is now but regardless if its not a good solution then something else - STAT. Free means kids, spammers, trollers can just overwhelm us and they now are at an unprecedented level.

Thats not something that can take long to fix. Its the number one problem facing this forum and could ruin it within weeks. If we can't have meaningful discussions without being overwhelmed by noise then we will all just eventually walk away.

The Moderators are very good at deleting a Thread and notifying you that they deleted your Thread and giving a Reason. I mean these guys are quick as hell in notifying you and it is much appreciated. I was not expecting this at all because I had never seen it performed like this in the past. Of course, I realize the group before had limitations as they were volunteers and I understand that completely.

I have said this recently and it bears worth mentioning again. I feel like the Right to Free Speech is something that the current Management has taken on very seriously. I applaud them for it. The Owners, CEO, Moderators have been bashed repeatedly by Warrior members in such a unnecessary and very unprofessional and childish manner.

But yet they continue to give us all a platform to voice our opinions... even the most repugnant ones with little to no filters.

That truly speaks volumes about these guys.

I also like some of the changes with additional Forums like Email Marketing. I think that can be a beneficial way for Warriors to learn more and more about specific tools and models for achieving success with an online business.

Btw, I checked out a couple of the WAMA threads including Matt Bacak and it was really cool and educational as well. I think it is a good addition.

Lets face it there are definitely some bumps and bruises the WF is experiencing now. But I personally do not think it is irreparable.

Quite honestly, i am looking for 2015 to be a year of the WF reclaiming its stake as one of the best places to go to learn about making money online.

            Cheers

Yes. I hang out in the Copy section and things there are going from bad to worse. For instance... I've been contributing - yes "contributing" - helping people out, here since 2009.

Recently a guy with a grudge against me - because I gave him an infraction for calling someone a "POS" - shopped me to the Mods for "harrassing fellow warriors" and "Offensive username".The first for something I said to him in retaliation for a smartass comment he made to me (something about no-one knowing me outside this forum) and the latter for the use of "nazi". As I pointed out to the Mods I ran my brand past Admin/Mods when I changed it 4 years ago - and they approved it.

Mods banned me for 3 months. But overturned it on appeal.

That was about the last straw for me. Like a kick in the teeth. And you know what? I bet the Filipino mods have no idea about "Grammar Nazi" or "The Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld. They just saw "nazi" and the ban hammer came down.

Someone here said the Moderation has improved. Not in my book. I miss the old crew and I especially miss Paul Myers - even though he sent me to the corner once for being naughty.

So I agree with this -

I've often thought that. That regulars/sensible old hands could play a part in Moderation. Especially if they are experts in their field. In my case - not just content or article-writers calling themselves copywriters.

I started in this racket in 1966 with J. Walter Thompson and have worked for numerous big agencies...had my own shop...work for some of the biggest names in I.M. blah blah blah. So I'm not really impressed when some college kid who's read a few books on copy makes trouble for me - over stupid shit.

Complaints, concern, issues like above...well maybe they should be delineated to more appropriate and relevant Threads. (NOTE : And believe me there are plenty of them here at WF )

After all isn't this Thread called "Has Freelancer Done ANYTHING Good..."
              Jeesh

This is an interesting thread. As a War Room Member who rarely visits these days, I was very surprised to learn that I needed Freelancer approval in order to begin a new thread. As a result, I have been waiting 7 days and never heard back. The thread never got posted either. WOW! I'm flabbergasted!

Now tonight, they send me a "Rate our Services" survey autoresponse email.

Is this how things operate these days? Or have I just missed a step?

    Thanks Mark!

Don't know about the communication part of it but needing approval to post a thread in the War room section has been a requirement for years before Freelancer took over. Since people pay to get access its the only way to ensure some kind of quality for their purchase. If you were not referring to a paid section then theres an issue you would need to check with helpdesk to resolve. Even brand new people start threads with no mod approval
