Similar threads notifier

For example, I'm writing a new thread. Just before I publish it, I get this notification:

Dear Nesha,

Based on your thread's title and/or keywords or something else our system has identified the following threads, which are more relevant to your thread. Something like that.

What do you think? I see that some warriors are complaining that some threads and questions are Deja vu. On the other hand, you need to help warriors get the right answers.

I'm not a developer, so I don't know if this complex or expensive thing to do.

On my mobile. It works. Great. My first mobile thread. Groovy.

Thx.

Isn't that what "search" does for you?

If people would post questions they have about their BUSINESS - instead of sitting around thinking of things to start threads about - this forum would be greatly improved.

When I have a question - I do an advanced search first and 90% of the time I find the answer without starting a new (repetitive) thread about it.

That's why people complain about "repetitive" threads...it clearly indicates the person posting did not read the forum before jumping in with a question.

I don't work for Freelancer but I think if you add too many little 'tools' the forum will sink from the weight of them. To me, the best forum style is clean and easy/fast to navigate. The more 'details' you add, the more cumbersome the platform becomes.

But FL may disagree with me - it's their forum.

I've done searches and pulled up threads that are several years old, but the information looks really good.

Is it okay to post an "is this still applicable?" post to bump it?

I think there are some "eternal" questions, and some require "updates." I don't know, for example, there's some new SEO algorithm, and you need to discuss it. That's OK and justifiable. On the other side, do we really need to ask questions about the meaning of IM life over and over again?

That's the main purpose of this search-compare-inform function. I really think it could help.

        Cheers!

      KK,

You're talking about the most logical and reasonable thing everyone should do before posting a new thread.

I'm talking about the reality of new threads posting process. With no exaggeration, 99% of all new threads are like, I wanna know or ask something, lemme shoot a new one. These warriors DON'T WANT or DON'T KNOW (?!) that their thread might've been processed, answered, discussed, and similar, thousands of times before.

So, there's no way you can make someone use the search option. Threads are every forum's blood flow. So, accept the reality, put this search option, or accept the deja vu threads. I don't see other solution.

Regarding FL, I'm a freelancer working on Freelancer, Upwork, and Guru. One day, I saw a link WF on FL, and I said, what's this. Nice. Lemme spend some time here. I read that FL owns WF now. Right? But, it's not OK to say that WF is gonna become a copy of FL in terms of functionality, features, and other design, usage-related things. Hit the button, check out FL.com and see for yourself.

I proposed a simple solution in order to fix an annoying problem. You wanna say, please use the search option. It's not gonna work. New warriors will say, I don't have time for this. I just wanna get the info I need.

Again, I'm talking about the reality not the ideal WF world.

      Cheers,
      Nesha

It might be fine - but always good to look at the profile of the person who started the thread....often in such threads someone bumps them with a question but the person who started the thread has been "gone" for years.

In other bumped threads you'll see people quoting and arguing with an opinion that was posted months or years ago. A quick google search - or forum search here might reveal more recent comments on the same topic.

Agree. Yet, I also believe there's some poetic/cosmic justice about threads. The honest ones are appreciated. The others. Let's say, they're rightfully ignored. I have had some first hand experiences. So, I'm thinking about this feature, as some kind of "discouragement weapon." You have been warned, and you still want to post your thread. Well, good luck with that. You know that your thread has been answered or discussed, and you still wanna push it. Then, my warrior friend, I have every right to question your intentions. Cheers KK! N

I'd be more likely to say "some poetic/comedic justice...."
