Tim -

We were posting in a thread asking about "affiliate product promotion"....and now the message is

"That thread has been removed"

Why? I have to ask because it doesn't compute to me. NO rudeness in the thread - good replies (you even thanked one of them)...so why delete a thread that people could learn from?

It's a problem on the forum - rude and nasty replies -and senseless one liners are often left in place and threads like this one totally deleted. Why bother to give a precise or thoughtful answer if mods are simply deleting without reason?

...and the thread is back. Don't know if it was a glitch in the forum or was "undeleted"...

That happened with a thread I had just finished writing a nice long post in the other day. So I posted a thread asking that it be restored. That thread was removed and I got a PM saying I'm not allowed to ask why a thread was deleted. So technically you just broke that rule too and your thread should also be deleted, (not that I feel that way). It was a valuable thread, and the OP was potentially going to be exposing people to something good. So far my research indicates the OP is probably the "real deal" too.

Do you mean this thread: "The 3 Week Diet - Is it Dead for Affiliates?"

There was some promotional content that got deleted, so it's possible the whole thread got deleted by mistake and then restored when the mods realised. It could also just be vbulletin screwing up.

As for the mods not answering why threads were deleted, I can understand why, but I'd prefer that they explained. I'll talk to them about it.

Ok, I found out what happened. If a thread gets reported by too many users then it gets temporarily blocked and sent back to the mods for checking. This one hit that limit and so was blocked until the mods activated it again.

The thread I and others had posted in was called "To Affiliates." The OP was Alicia1. There was nothing bad or wrong going on in the thread. In fact, quite the opposite. It was a good discussion, and the OP was looking like she was involved with something that could be really good for affiliates (she wanted to start an affiliate program for her venture). As I have done further research after talking to her, it's looking more and more like she is "the real deal" in fact, and could be involved with something with quite a bit of "win-win" potential for people. I had just mentioned that she could use iDevAffiliate, Post Affiliate Pro, and possibly InfusionSoft or Velocify (valuable information) among other things. There was good posting going on there, including about the broader question of what is and is not a good affiliate program if one were to start one. It was a good and valuable discussion with no rule breaking.

(She had made a dup thread under a different title, but that one was being ignored and the discussion was happening in "To Affiliates." Also, Alicia1 doesn't even know why her thread was deleted.)

Ok, now I've found it. That thread has now been restored.

... and just to be clear, there was also a "To affiliates" thread that Alicia1 posted in the suggestion forum. By the looks of things the mods got confused and removed both of them by mistake.

    Edit: I accidentally a word

Thank you for replying Tim -I'm loving this new interactive response on the WF!

    you just broke that rule
I agree - but the only reason I posted was there was no reason for the deletion and it's usually fairly obvious why a thread has been deleted. I thought perhaps it was a "glitch" and seems it was.

The "member mod" has been pretty good as a system - and in the past at least Allen had told us it was "weighted". That kept the system from being abused or used as a "weapon" for a fussbody or two.

Could be with so many new members, the rules aren't understood well enough to judge what is or is not allowed. Probably makes it harder for mods.

I recently got three "infractions" in 6 minutes from a new member who didn't like what I posted. Oops!

I'd prefer they explained why things get deleted. If it becomes a problem we can always change back.

We're designing things to make sure they aren't easy to abuse, but so far there's not a lot of evidence that anyone is really trying to abuse the anti-spam stuff. The signatures on the other hand...
