User Post Counts Broken

Look at this example: Warrior Forum - The #1 Digital Marketing Forum & Marketplace - View Profile: sarawill

Compare how many posts it says they have and how many they actually have.

I've noticed this in several other cases as well.

I've noticed it for a week or more. For one thing if you start a new thread it counts as a "thread" AND as a "post".

So - if your only post here is a new thread you have "1" for a thread count and "1" for a post count - and your total count is "2"....for that one post.

This weekend I also noticed some like you mention above - but wrote those off as more sections where posts are not counted ...but that may be incorrect.

The example case has created 2 threads, posted 4 times total in the SEO forum but the forum says that they have 3 posts. The SEO forum wasn't one of those that limited post counts in the past I didn't think.

If you subtract the 2 thread starting posts as posts, then that's only 2 posts which is less than 3.

And I've seen it in a number of user's profiles as well.

Do you remember - in the past when the post count got wonky...it wasn't long before the forum had serious technical problems. I wondered if post count was an early indicator of an "uh oh".

Post count looks correct to me. Threads and posts have always been counted separately as far as I remember.

I was getting ready to post my 5000th post today when I noticed I only had 4998 posts (one was deleted the last couple days for some reason). I answered a thread so that brought it to 4999. Then I created a thread and my profile showed it was my 5000th post.

So they can't be separate in my case.

In the case above, before a thread was deleted for spam the person had created 2 threads and posted a total of 4 times but the profile showed 3 posts.

      How does that add up?

Yes, they were separate. Now they aren't. If you start a new thread that ONE post is counted both as a new thread and as a post. The total on many accts now doesn't add up.

OP in the link below is an example. Listed as having started 7 threads and having 10 posts....but those 10 posts include repeat of the 7 threads....

the total post count is 9..... how can that be right?

    Another example: http://www.warriorforum.com/social-m...wont-load.html

The OP started the thread AND posted in it...total post count is 1
    ---
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...book-free.html

OP shows 17 new threads started - 23 as post count - and total posts are 20

The post count may be including posts "deleted" for infractions; these still exist in the database, (i.e., the mods/admins can still see them), but are hidden from public view. The fix may be as simple as applying the same logic any time that table is accessed, (i.e., in MySQL terms, a single View).

Here's further evidence for that guess. As of right now, the last person to have posted in this thread was a blatant spammer. Their post was correctly "deleted" in the last half hour, and there are currently 31 visible posts remaining in the thread, (i.e., original + 30 replies), but the latest refresh of the OT index shows this:

The spammer's name and post time appears, and a total of 31, (not 30), replies.

In other words, some parts of the WF software are counting hidden posts as true contributions, and other parts correctly aren't.

The forum software does have a few different ways that it counts posts and threads, which is kind of annoying. We'll keep an eye out for any anomalies on this.
