Are there any "approval" guidelines?

I understand in the main forum and maybe others sections new threads must be "moderated" before they appear.

Not a bad idea at all - but what is NOT acceptable? Threads with rants - review questions - help desk questions for CB and paypal and Amazon - all seem to be acceptable.

Today there's a new thread by a new member. Did someone read that new post and 'approve' it? He's asking for opinions on the sales copy, etc, on a just launched WSO. He probably doesn't see anything wrong with starting a thread about his WSO - and it got 'moderator approval'.

Why approve threads that are not in compliance with WF policy? Do mods skim for blatant spam and approve anything else?

To clarify:

Not trying to tell FL what the guidelines 'should' be. Just wondered if it's worth 'reporting ' rules violations if they appear in an 'approved' thread... The thread mentioned above was removed after it was reported but made me wonder if 'mod approval' of a new thread means 'this is acceptable' and we should not question it.

Right now if something is somewhat against policy, but looks like it could be interesting the mods will allow it. If it's spammy or crappy in other ways they do still reject it.

Reporting helps us hugely, as it's an opportunity to revisit borderline (or flat out wrong) calls and fix the decision up. This is really what allows the mods to be lenient, as we can fix stuff that went live that shouldn't have, whereas we have much less opportunity to fix things that we reject that we should have allowed.

That makes a lot of sense - thanks for explaining it.

Next thing you know, Tim's going to start asking the more active Members to be volunteer mods.
