What's up with the web hosting offers?

Are the admins and mods really OK with people putting up threads just to push their affiliate links to HostGator, Dreamhost, etc.?

I looked through the first 8 randomly, and found 3 threads that were nothing more than people pushing their affiliate offer.

There has to be some sort of quality guidelines...

I was noticing the same exact thing but never said anything. Hopefully someone will come along who knows.

I questioned the same exact thing. I was under the impression the "hosting offers" section was for actual web hosts to advertise, not litter it with affiliate crap.

EDIT: The mods told me that "anything related to hosting is allowed in there"

Unfortunately, I think the 40 bucks a pop overrules the quality. Half of the other offers in there and even offered on this forum are merely resellers that don't even have a clue. Hop on live chat with them and you'll see. Look at proudhosts - 5K+ "cloud hosting" accounts that were found jam-packed on 1 single server when the guy sold it on Flippa because of the problems he was having..

I think myself & Chad from webhosting-land are the only ones that even interact with Warrior members outside of the WSO threads as well.

Those are PAID ads - that's why there's not a problem with them.

Then what's the point of the hosting offers section? The people opening them ARE NOT offering hosting. They are pushing affiliate links. They should be in the regular WSO section if that's the case.

EDIT: There should be some rules on the hosting offers section - if people are looking for a hosting provider, they shouldn't have to weed through 25 crappy affiliate links. There's already enough people here submitting useless posts littered with affiliate links on threads they have no business even commenting on.

I believe when the forum was first introduced, on the top bar of the Warrior Forum it said "Do you offer web hosting? --> New Advertising Section". Key words - "do you offer web hosting"

Affiliates do not offer web hosting.

EDIT: I'm also sure the other web hosts here on the forum would agree.

No rule that anyone has to agree - but unless you own the forum the choice you make is to advertise or not in that section. The sticky rules there don't prohibit affiliate links.

The point seems simple - for years hosting companies and hosting affiliates have tried to slide their promos and links into various forum threads. Now they can advertise freely - for a fee.

If results aren't good - the affiliate ads will gradually disappear.

Ok, I understand this. My issue is, if affiliates are still allowed to submit their links into the hosting offer section, what was the point in creating it in the first place?

Agreed with kingfish. Why would admins want to have a cesspool of offers if they are able to actually provide value in the same sense WHT does?

Has anyone reported the ads in question?

I'm sure the mods would remove them if they realized - these offers perhaps just slipped through.

I did - brought the issue to their attention and was told anything relating to hosting is allowed in there.

Right, exactly. It has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of what's being put there.

Hosting Posts are reviewed before going live by someone.

I think the readers of this forum know about affiliate links. if there is no value they wont be clicked. And naturally they will go away.

I also reported a couple of those affiliate hosting offers literally a day after the section had been created. I also felt that allowing those offers would ruin that section of the forum. It's all good and well to say it brings them extra revenue by allowing those ads but what you will find is the people who are genuinely offering web hosting deals won't want to advertise there and so no one will bother going there. So the section dies a fairly quick death.

Someone above said it's a paid section so they can do what they want. Well the WSO forum is a paid section also and could you imagine what it would currently look like if affiliate offers had been allowed in there. The section would probably have died years ago.
