Moderator Review of All "Infractions"

Fellow Warriors,

There is a need to have all infractions reviewed by a moderator...

Today, I had some random person give me two infractions for "Breaking WSO Rules."

The huge problem is...... It is not in the WSO section... So, it is impossible to "break" WSO rules.... There are different rules for the WSO section and the Wanted - Members Looking To Hire You section.

These infractions were given.... twice within one hour.... on a thread in the Wanted - Members Looking To Hire You section.....

The disturbing part is... This is not a complaint or anything that would remotely justify an infraction.....

It is just a random comment....

Yet, all they had to do was press the give infraction button..... and it is posted to my account.

It is way too easy to libel someone here.... These libelous "infractions" could cost you your reputation and a pile of money.

Imagine....

You are about to launch a WSO... and a bunch of random people give you libelous "infractions." This could ground your launch because some people who don't know you will look at your profile.... and infractions.

As soon as they see infractions listed, they automatically assume they are true....

Most won't bother to click and read the "infraction" to decipher its validity. It takes too much effort. They simply click away.... That sale is lost.

This needs to be addressed immediately.

    Rich,

The moderators see all infractions, in the same place that reports of posts are listed. That particular fellow was banned for a while for this, along with a few other small issues.

First thing: You can reverse infractions on your account.

You can also ask to have them deleted, by reporting them using the usual methods. Just be aware that we tend to leave those alone if they are from customers, or point to legitimate issues related to posting in the forum.

If you suddenly start getting hit with a bunch of infractions, and there's no visible and legit reason for them, report them. If it's the kind of game you're describing, we have no problems with banning a whole batch of people at once.

I don't recall that kind of mass-infraction attack ever happening, so it's not something we're going to see often.

All that aside, some people seem not to know the meaning of the word 'infraction,' and just use that button as though it were the visitor message option. We generally delete those when we see them come through. Like I say, though, if we miss one, report it.

      Paul,

      I appreciate your time...

Yes, the situation was exactly as you described.....

I had never encountered this person on WF... nor was he/she a customer of mine.

I wasn't aware I could "reverse" infractions.... I'll have to dig around to see exactly how to do that.

That's a strange way of giving members infractions, Im a Moderator on a website, only Moderators can give infractions for rule violations and the like, but for WF to allow members to give infractions to each other.. how strange, does that mean a member can also ban a fellow WF member? not likely..

        Rich,

Any time you say "see my sig," or "sign up for my list," or "check this article on my site," or anything like that in the discussion sections, the odds are very high the post will be deleted if a mod sees it. If it's allowed, it takes over the discussions, and results in a lot of random noise.

It's not necessarily an intrinsically bad thing. The problem is the predictable outcome of allowing it. A large number of people in this business have no concern for the damage their actions do to the resources they abuse.

          Paul,

          I totally respect your position....

If my posts were still there, you would see I was trying to help... I suggested products to try... It wasn't spam...

All the moderator had to do was delete it...... Not give me an infraction...

Paul, I have no intention of being a PITA.... So, I'm perfectly clear.....

If I suggest my product in a relevant thread and post a direct link to my website or WSO, it is allowed....

If I post a link where they need to give their e-mail first... before they get information, that is not allowed...

          Am I correct?

          Thanks,

          Rich Beck BCIP, MCSD, MCIS

            Rich,

I did not comment on your motivation, the quality of info in the post, or anything else specific to this situation.

Also... The person who gave you that infraction is not a moderator here. The mods rarely give infractions.

No. Neither of those will usually be allowed to remain if they're reported, or if a mod sees them while reading a discussion.

              Paul,

Since I've seen it so much here.... I always thought you were allowed to mention your own products in relevant threads... As long as they were relevant...

              Thanks for the clarification....

That was my bad... Sorry about that.

I've posted a ticket... I'm hoping to get the infraction removed....

It used to happen occasionally - that's where I got my infractions. New members took offense if someone disagreed with them and issued infractions right and left.

The infractions still show from 2010 - but those members are no longer with us...LOL

The kind you're talking about is still pretty common. Basically, hissy-fits.

I was talking about a bunch of different people (or accounts) giving infractions in a targeted way to a single person. Wasn't clear enough on that, I guess.

How do you know if you have received an infraction?
You'll get a PM with the details. That part is automatic.

Yes, I just got an infraction for "Spammed Advertisements" after I posted several thoughtful replies......

I just went back and deleted everything in the thread......

If I'm going to get infractions for taking time to post several thoughtful replies and then later suggesting a product I now use and own the right to sell myself... Not as an affiliate.... There is something wrong...

I see people suggesting their own products in threads here each and every day... I guess I'll be hitting that "Report Post" button a lot in the future....
