Warrior Forum Live Chat!

I have been thinking it would be a great idea if we have a chat facility here on this forum. This can let us engage with each other live.

Do you think that will be a good idea? What will be the possible implications?

Sweet idea! Only downside is that people might do a lot of nonsense talk as I see quite some do on this forum. But that's what private chats are for right? ^^

I think that it will open up a new level of communication providing us with an additional plattform . I am all for it.

Might want to ad that one to the suggestion section. Suggestion Forum

Not saying you are in the wrong section but just saying you might hit on a good idea that they'd want to hear.

I kinda think WF is already live with the immediate responses. Not sure for me personally how chat would help. Someone help me with my short sighted vision on this.

This is one of those things that sounds good on paper. I don't think it's an idea that would work because:

    * It's one more thing the moderators would have to keep an eye on. They're deluged with enough from the discussion forums, let alone the WSO and Classified Ads forums.

    * Experience has taught me that adding a chat room feature to a forum just to have one very seldom works and it takes away from the discussion forums.

People already chat with one another using other tools such as Skype, WhatsApp, etc.

A few enterprising Warriors have held "Warrior Forum" type of web chats, usually on Friday nights (sometimes Saturday). Some of those chats turned out to be full of great information. Though after a time, I found them to be unfocused, some "guests" would show up and say inappropriate things that had nothing to do with marketing, and they became big time wasters.

I'm part of a couple Warrior groups and we all connect through Skype, I think that's good enough.

Maybe making it available to war room members only, for instance could help keep the workload within reach

Will skype or instant messaging tell you who is live on WF and who is not?

Considered setting up an IRC channel for a live chat feature?

It won't; however if you connect with someone here and add them to your Skype you'll be able to see when they are logged on.

Secondly, if someone has the option activated, you can see if they are online in this forum (it can be adjusted in your account panel here) anyway (most have it on).

Not everyone wants people to know when they are online here and not everyone would want to be hit up on live chat.

I really don't see a benefit to having a live chat feature. If this forum got one, I definitely would NOT activate it. This is why I prefer using programs like Skype and Whatsapp, I only add Warriors to it that I want to.

I hear you, but what would the actual benefit be? People are already connecting using software and apps like Skype, webinar platforms like GoTo Meeting, etc.

I think adding a chat feature would be superfluous and it would add more burden to an already over-burdened forum.

Nice thought but with so many option available out there, in-built chatting system for Warrior Forum is not required at all.

So far as I know, Eric Louviere is possibly still running his Friday night chat that he started up again last year.

I closed my Saturday night chat last August.

Since getting skype, I don't really see the point of another chat mechanism.

A chat here on WF would need a lot of additional ressources. Also you will have a lot of newbies asking for help! I do not think that a chat will help the community

This is really unnecessary in my opinion.
If you do want a chat, then buy a domain called WFChat or something like that, so that people could go there and talk.

We already have PMs, Visitor Messages and Skype.. And with so much daily active users on WF.. you know where this is going to go right?

    Just my opinion..

naw, I was going to do another friday night chat but then right off the bat a couple negative people showed up and I remembered quickly why I stopped doing them in the first place. When you dont want to show up for your own live calls, then something is wrong with that picture.

However, when I first did them (years ago)... I had no kids and just one friend. So, I had plenty of time.

Ok, ok, I had no friends. geeze. make a guy feel bad already.

Instead of having a public live chat feature, they could add a chat feature for chatting to people on your friends list. Plus maybe add a feature where you can invite other people to the chat.

As chat is instant and a lot quicker to converse with people than via PMs which involve having to press the reply button, wait for the person to check their inbox, etc.. Plus with PMs there is an issue with only being able to send 5 messages per hour, this wouldn't be an issue with a chat feature.

This way you get much quicker chatting and the mods don't need to keep an eye on it like they would with a public chat feature.

In my opinion, there are just too many users and visitors at a time to start working a chat. It would probably be sort of a mess

Not a bad idea imo. A lot of other big forums have IRC Chat Networks.

Perhaps someone can create an app for this ?

This is great idea, but cost of implementation will be high because of system resource usage.

As someone who once enjoyed the AOL chat room era I think a chat feature would be a welcome addition.

War Room members only of course.

If moderation is an issue, maybe have specified events? But then, it wouldn't really be a chat.

My experience with chats dictates that a "No Spam Tolerance" - "One Strike" policy would be required to maintain order.

Well, for me, the forum is beginning to have a bit of a non-serious, kiddie feel to it.

The spam doesn't help, the goober pointing at "Register Here" doesn't help, the social icons at the side look weak, imo, and the idea of live chat...meh...just something about it doesn't seem right for this forum. I don't have any strong arguments to offer against it, however.

Freelancer has opened this up more and lowered the guard overall because they don't know why they shouldn't. Allen Says knew why, and although I like some of the design changes, right now I'd rather have Allen back as owner to be honest.

I'm not afraid of change, but I'm already growing weary with these willy-nilly changes Freelancer is making. And I'm beginning to think they don't understand crap about the WF or the members that make it what it is. Why would they so carelessly - and it could be argued "recklessly" - open the spam floodgates as soon as they took over?

This forum is a great forum and the members in it are great. These spammers don't deserve a free ticket to trounce all over us.

A respectable forum for people serious about learning how to make money online...now a friggin' circus with a bunch of clowns. That's where it's heading, but I hope I'm wrong.

If this is done, there should be a room where people can promote their things as to avoid the main chat being bombarded with people trying to promote their stuff.

Instead of discouraging it outright.. make a place/room for it.

I created a thread awhile back talking about creating a chat room ... lots of people gave me negative feedback.

To add to the potential negatives Rod listed, it might also divert server resources to the chat application, meaning less resources for the forum itself.
