Wow Warrior Forum, wow... Email Marketing 101

OK,
I have been afk for several months... life's gotten crazy... sorry to those warriors whom I normally chat with who miss me; maybe I'll find some time to get on skype soon too.

So, I get this email about EMAIL MARKETING. That's cool, it's actually a subject that I'm quite fond of myself. The problem is; that this email is from WF. You know, the new WF.
The emails I've been getting too many of lately.
The one's that I haven't had a chance to look at.
Until today, when I decided to take 10 seconds and scroll down this one about EMAIL MARKETING that caught my attention... and really, it didn't even take ten seconds to scroll it because nothing about the email actually got my attention once I opened it- until I got to the bottom.......... Something was missing. No ability whatsoever, no information at all, regarding changing my subscription options or unsubscribing.

Come on Alaister Low. Seriously?

You know--- I care a great deal about this forum. WarriorForum is one of the very very few websites which I use my email address that gets pushed to my phone. Because hey, I do want PM notifications on the spot so I can get back to people; but otherwise receive email from administrators was the only other thing- and that meant forum administration emails, not daily marketing. If I wanted those; then I'd have opted in with the email I use for warriorplus and buying things.

So, I'm curious to see if un-checking email from administrators box in the forum options makes these stop- or if these messages aren't tied to vbulletin at all and we're just trapped without a canspam given right to change our subscription options.

Now that's an important lesson in email marketing. Damn important.

SO, is this post a rant? Yeah a little big. Sure.

But, It's also marketing 101

I have always loved this community and I hope it stays that way!

This is a case of when inheriting a list of 700k members goes wrong

I suck at broadcasting to my list, but even I can tell their attempt at email marketing sucks

I agree they should put a link at the bottom of the email, to opt out from the offers, but not the forum notifications.

I agree. They should have an opt out option in all their emails.

There is an Unsubscribe link on the bottom of the e-mail I got from them today about Landing Pages.

This one was better than the one I got a week or so ago that had someone else's username at the top of it instead of mine.

The "unsubscribe" font size has changed dramatically - a lot smaller now than a week ago.

Many members complaining about the emails are unsubscribing via their user cp. They probably can't see the "unsubscribe" at the bottom of the email due to the font size being soo small.

I also received an email with another member's username. NOT the best way to market to your customers.
