    I, too, think it would be great if WF had a chat room. As a newbie a whole bunch of people will inevitably try to sell me their stuff in there whenever I ask a question, but I could still probably learn a bunch of great stuff in real-time.

      Personally I don't think that a chat would work with a community with almost 800k members. And secondly you might be over estimating the willingness to spend a lot of time in the chat, by those who actually have knowledge on IM.

      There's also the fact that the chat answers disappear, where as forum post will stay visible "forever". So more people can read them and maybe even learn something from them

        I think chat would work if there was separate chat rooms i.e. general IM chat, SEO chat, etc.. rather than just one chat room where everyone is in, which would get overcrowded. Also, there could be an option so people can create their own chat room, so less people would be using the main chat rooms.

        Both forums and chat both have their pros and cons, but chat is a lot quicker for conversation to flow quickly than a forum is because messages appear near instantly instead of the page requiring to be refreshed, so it has that advantage.

    This is an awful idea. It would be little more than spam, and there are not enough moderators to moderate a live chat for a forum of this size.

    If you want to chat, grab some friends and get on Skype. Nobody is stopping you.

    Chatting here would be fun. On the contrary, it would be a conversation of countless creatures from all parts of the earth. Chatting and forum posting all do have their positive attributes and downside as well. A forum with this scope is already jam packed for all of us and our opinions. A chat room will cause so much topsy-turvy and free-for-all.
