Google announced Thursday it will donate $1 million USD to help victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti. It is also extending the company's technological resources to relief organizations. Internet giant Google is helping victims of the catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti, a poor nation in the Western hemisphere. On top of the financial support Google is extending to the earthquake victims, the company is also mobilizing its technological resources to help relief organizations connect and link with each other in the absence of power or electricity needed to operate the needed communications equipment. Google also created a Web page devoted to linking people with charitable groups including Direct Relief, Yele Haiti, the Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders. Google is making online mapping and satellite imagery tools available to relief workers so they can better evaluate damage and coordinate responses. "We've also reached out to the YouTube community for help," Jacquelline Fuller and Prem Ramaswami of the Google Crisis Response Team said in a blog post. Due to the massive extent of devastation in the capital city, Haiti is left without power to run its public facilities and infrastructure, making it very difficult to deliver the kind of relief and services survivors need. |

LOL - yes, I have a love hate relationship with Google, most of the time hate ... if it were Yahoo that made the donation, I would be like "Wow, that is great, I should buy stock in Yahoo, they are such a socially responsible company ..." LOL

When looking at Haiti (and other issues around the world) our problems or issues seem so very miniscule. Donating $1m is very generous of Google and may it go a long way in helping the poor people of Haiti Riz |

Well it's nice to hear that news, as a biggest search engine in the world I think it's there obligation to give back and hope others will imitate what Google did. |
