Fresh Expansions Coming To Instagram

Ever since its founding in 2010, Instagram has commanded an impressive level of popularity and grown to be one of the world's foremost social networking systems. In its first four years, it racked up more than 300 million users. Instagram announced some important changes to its picture-sharing service coming up in late 2015. Many of these alterations are intended to mollify long-standing complaints from the app's user base and how The Rich Jerk program can help expand your marketing efforts.

Instagram used to be known for the standardized format applied to all of its shared photos -- every image uploaded was made to fit in a square area. Instagram started with this formatting limitation to evoke the feeling of traditional Polaroid photographs, and the distinctive feature was probably responsible for some of Instagram's initial notoriety. Many users have chafed under the restriction, though; the rectangular shape of smartphones and other mobile devices cries out for a wider range of different aspect ratios.

Instagram's own staff reports that a full 20 percent of the photos uploaded to the service are a poor fit for the standard square aspect ratio. In order to meet the limitation, the pictures are cropped. This often cuts out important details and reduces the appeal of the photo to the app's user. In certain cases, the arbitrary nature of the cropping can wipe out features or individuals that the picture taker considers vitally important.

The company has responded to complaints over the aspect ratio issue by expanding the range of dimensional options available to its users. Instagram users are now presented with an on-screen format icon that allows them to select different ratios. Portrait and landscape formats have been added to the aspect ratio stable alongside the older square format. Users now have the ability to share their pictures with friends and associates in the original dimensions they were taken in and The Rich Jerk members will be able to market products outside of Instagram as well.

This Instagram update went live at the end of August in 2015, covering both the Android and iOS versions of the app. The company has made the aspect ratio options available for sharing both photos and videos.

From a marketing standpoint, this is a very welcome change. Marketers who are attempting to create a cohesive brand across multiple media channels found the restriction of square-only pictures extremely onerous. Graphics originally designed for different presentations (such as the lanscape format typically used on Facebook Newsfeeds) had to be altered or even replaced for use on Instagram.

This is just one of the changes coming to Instagram. Users will now be able to regram photos, passing them along after receiving them. The similarity to the re-tweet function incorporated into Twitter should be clear. This will improve the ability of Instagram users to share content virally - another win for marketers. The ability to share images with a single touch will doubtless give popular images even more exposure.

Other features in high demand for Instagram users include the ability to add links to Instagram posts and a direct link between the photo-sharing app and Twitter. This was once a primary feature of Instagram, but internal agreements between the two companies led Twitter to disable the option. The ability to take photos through Instagram and send them directly to the user's Twitter feed is a simple feature that's sorely missed by many of the application's users and The Rich Jerk users will be able to quickly find great affiliate programs.

The last piece of the puzzle users are looking for from Instagram is better integration with desktop computers. In a lot of cases, users who want to share an image from their computer via Instagram are forced to email it to themselves and then access the message on their mobile device. This is an added bit of tedium that could be easily solved with a little further development on Instagram's part. It would hardly be the first social media network to take steps to accommodate desktop users.

Major marketers who have been Instagram to great success were eager to embrace these new changes. Some of the early results have already met with great acclaim.

The Star Wars crew was quick to take advantage of the changes to release the latest teaser trailer for The Force Awakens. In the days of HD video, viewers are used to seeing film trailers in landscape format, and the new Star Wars video did not disappoint. Users were able to get a quick glimpse of a pair of Jedi about to do battle in the full widescreen aspect ratio that films deserve.

Adobe was another brand that made a quick splash with the new Instagram features. They recently sent out a picture of the artwork Random Act of Creativity. While the art in question (being exceptionally abstract) might not have been to everyone's taste, Adobe also provided profile links that allowed Instagram users to learn more about the piece. This enabled them to spread the information they wanted to share, but the marketing effect would surely have been more elegant if Adobe could use an external link to send visitors to a website. This would remove the need to constantly update their profile page to match their latest photos and streamline the entire process of sharing information and The Rich Jerk members will be able to gain an advantage by following the blueprint given to them.

Car maker Mercedes-Benz took advantage of the new landscape format to share a fresh snapshot of a brilliant white C 63s coupe. Added text emphasized the new car's low carbon emissions and high fuel efficiency. This is another place where external links could have been employed to deliver more information.

Football fans were greated to a fresh landscape-oriented video clip from the University of Florida Gators. The brief video showed the Gators' home stadium along with a reference to the school's favored salute -- right over left, arms locked at the elbows.

Instagram wasn't afraid to take full advantage of its own improvements, either. They've already started distributing multiple landscape photos, but the charge was led by a widescreen video. The clip showed only a brief snippet of a surfer in action. The video was started and finished with the Instagram logo and The Rich Jerk members will also be able to spread their marketing wings outside of video.

Instagram's latest changes are a clear indication that the company is listening to feedback from its users and taking steps to improve their experience. For marketers this is particularly welcome news; being able to break out of the box and explore more picture-sharing options simply turns Instagram into a more flexible, more powerful marketing tool.

Be careful about the way you flip and wave affiliate ads in the faces of your site visitors. A lot of online visitors are quite prudent and insightful. If you burden your visitors with overwhelming numbers of advertisements they will develop cold feet to visit your site another time. Aggressive affiliate marketing does not mean you push your products too hard. If you annoy your visitors, you will lose twice. They will not proceed to check out the affiliate products you are advertising . In addition, they will quit; never returning to your site again. The idea is never to let another person’s agenda overshadow yours. Trustworthiness calls for selling only those items you truly believe a re good for you too. Therefore, marketing products you don’t believe in is a `no`, `no` in affiliate marketing. Remember that the visitors who come again have a strong role to play in the course of your marketing and attempts at making some money online. Repeat visitors provide you with link-backs that spread your brand gospel. They are the ones that will tell others to visit your site because they want to share in the pleasant experience that was their own visit to your site. So, I've decided to add another awesome article to my Rich Jerk review called. 'Hangouts Given Its Own Separate Location By Google - Part 1'

Google is launching a dedicated desktop page. It will be for this free communication tool specifically. Since Google+ isn't the main emphasis for the search engine giant any longer, they are continuing the trend of instituting product independence. For example, Google Hangouts has a dedicated website of its own now, which it really should have had all along. Although it appears on a Google subdomain, the regular Hangout features are offered on it, including chat text chat options, video calls and all of the other features everyone has come to expect from Google Hangouts.

Before this change took place, desktop users had to use Chrome, and then use Gmail to log into Google+. All of those options are still there of course. However, the new page that has been launched makes it a lot easier and provides a much cleaner appearance, including wallpaper images and chat and call buttons that are prominently displayed right in the center of the page.

Similarities With Facebook

The designed used for the platform and the move have quite a number of similarities with Facebook. It is a continuation of Google wanting to make some changes, including eliminating the Google+ sign up altogether. There have been other improvements made as well, including an android app that was recently released, which improves phone battery life, streamlines contacts and provides for faster message deliveries. These were available on their iOS app already, and now the Android platform is catching up.

Dividing things up like this for some reason makes it a lot easier to understand. It appears that it was the main hold up keeping many people from jumping on board.
