What is the real value of an article?

Can an article written for a dollar return your investment? That of course depends on the goal of the article and the quality of the article. As an experienced article marketer and article publisher, I’ve been watching the numbers for years.
There are six things that must be present in each article in order to be effective regardless of the goal:

1. A keyword appropriate headline
2. A keyword appropriate article body with at least three related keywords to support the main keyword.
3. The article must make sense; there is nothing more aggravating than reading a great headline only to be disappointed by gibberish.
4. The grammar and punctuation should be impeccable. This allows for easy reading.
5. There must be a definite point to the article that leaves some positive response.
6. The goal of the article must be met in order to consider it effective.

Bonus point.

1. There are a lot of inexpensive writers out there who would be happy to take your money and return a product but do they really know how to create an effective article that gets the job done? Check them out before you lay your money down and waste your time. Search for their work on Google. Its simple, if you cannot find them how easy will it be to find the work that they do for you?

If you don’t know what your expected outcome should be why are you spending the money? I think that many newcomers to the Internet marketing business models are swimming upstream when it comes to the use of articles for developing an effective business.


Your goal – backlinks
If you simply want to spin a whole bunch of articles and get backlinks for your site, you won’t need quality articles, just purchase a good article spinner and have at it. Be sure to edit your articles for grammar and sense. You don’t want someone reading your article on a blog or article site and retching because the thing was only SEO spam. You will lose out in the long run. The end result is targeted backlinks to your website.


Your goal – targeted leads
You are looking for a very specific audience and drawing them in with your headline. This kind of article must be keyword specific and contain an effective message with a call to action. You are selling your experience to the public and drawing them in to make the case that you can help them. Your goal – one shot sale
You want to drive traffic to your sales page in order to close the sales right now. This means a powerful keyword specific headline that allows you to get noticed in the major search engines on page one or two. You then must successfully identify the prospect’s issues and address them in a way that makes them feel justified in doing business with you without the benefit of a relationship. The end result will be an immediate sale.

Each one of the above stated article marketing goals call for a slightly different product to be produced. Don’t blindly go with an article because it reads well, ensure that it fits your business need.

I just thought I would comment on the work Dennis has done for me, I asked for 6 articles with keyword supplied, within 24 hours or so Dennis had produced a PDF of the six articles for my review, these article needed no revision from my side and were good to go.

Hi, you get the doc files after payment. The PDF is for initial review. Once we are working together regularly and you feel comfortable with my style, I simply send you your doc files upon payment. You do get to request changes on you articles.

I understand how you feel. You see, I have worked with clients who felt the same way initially. What I found, is that once they have experienced the frustration of working with others at a much lesser price, and have not seen the kind of results they need, they usually return to me for advice.

One crucial aspect of article marketing that many people fail to understand initially, is similar to buying a car. You can invest in a reliable car that looks good and gets you where you want to go without you ever having to worry about it breaking down. Or you can get a car for very little money, and constantly worry about the next breakdown.

My experience is it can be far more expensive and a waste of time and money to constantly fix something that isn't working properly, than it is to invest in a reliable tool that gets you the profits that you want.

I'm sure there are very good article writers who have no problem charging a dollar or two per article. My question is how many of them will be there next year if they're only charging a dollar or two per article?

My clients send referrals to me constantly. I in turn, support my clients with advice on marketing, strategies for article distribution and when I have a new offer, they are the first to receive it.

So I understand and accept your evaluation of the price of an article. As I said in my above statement in my offer, the value of an article really is in whether it does the job for you that it was intended.

Thank you for your comments. I work with off-line clients during the day and put out 10 articles each evening. I stay very consistent in my production and actually put more of my time into research and editing than actual article writing. The reason for this, is to maintain a high quality of writing to fit the need of the project.

There are some projects that don't require a lot of input. They are balanced by projects that are very knowledge intensive. They require a lot of research in order to distinguish them from the many other articles they compete with.

If I were simply doing bum marketing for a client, I would recommend quantity over quality. For those needs, there are many people who can manually spin out articles from PLR for a dollar or two. There is great justification for that technique.

If you're looking to land initial sales from your articles, rather than simply fill the copy with keywords to attract the search engines or back links, you need to move the reader to not only relate to you, but also to move to the next logical step.

One of the strategies I teach my clients, is consolidating their articles into e-books. In order to do that you need quality material that will stand up to scrutiny when published collectively. These types of articles are more than simply a collection of keyword focused sales pitches. My clients should be able to take their article collection to an editor who can then create a cost effective book for them.

I'm almost done with the 10 part project for you. I watched the secret two or three times and I'm still blown away. I'm assuming that you've seen it a few times yourself after reviewing your website I think you've got a great idea. Let me know if you had any issues with your personal server space that I set up for you. I'm not sure if you're having a Mac to PC issue but hopefully this workaround should help a lot.
