Default How to become a "John Carlton approved" freelance copywriter

UPDATE: October 5, 2009

Just a quick note to say thanks to all the Warriors who joined me
in class. You guys are rockin' right outta the gate. I'm excited
for all of you... as you're seeing already, this is game changing stuff.

The link in this thread now leads to the DVD Home Study Course...

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

It offers the same exact course materials as the students are using
now.

9 Professionally Shot Videos of John conducting the original SWS
Workshop. Others on the panel include David Garfinkel, David Deutsch,
and more. (Mike Morgan was already a million dollar copywriter and
paid his own money to attend the event.)

The full workbook with space for notes, exercises (there's one after
most videos) and a treasure chest of Carlton swipes never seen before.

If you couldn't swing the mentoring due to the cost or the time commitment,
this is the perfect solution.

You get John's full 17-Step system... all the time you need to go
through it... and use as a handy reference guide every time you
sit down to write (and the more you use it, the more the
formula becomes instinct.).

If you buy the Home Study course using my link,

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

... I'm throwing in a free 30 minute phone consultation -- the same
one I give to my clients who hire me at $10K + to craft their original copy.

You and I will use this call to get at the heart of your market and
I'll help you focus your lessons in the SWS, so you come out of the
course with the monster copy you need to dominate your niche.

Whether you're writing a sales letter, website, PPC campaign,
autoresponder series, print ad -- anything... John's system is the
key to making it sizzle.

And, if you decide you'd like to join a SWS mentoring session in the
future (provided John can pull this off again)... as a Home Study course
owner, you'll get the coaching at a significant discount.

But don't hesitate. John's known to pull his products from the market
without reason or warning.

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

Hope to talk with you soon.

Best,

Kevin

ORIGINAL POST:

Hey Warriors,

Been a while... nice to see you all again.

I'll have to keep this short because this opportunity ends tomorrow.
(Sorry for the late notice.)

The freelance copywriters here probably know that seats to John Carlton's
Simple Writing System private coaching session went on sale Monday.

I'll be coaching a class in the SWS for the 3rd time.

If you want the inside scoop on what it's REALLY like in there from a
fellow Warrior, you can read my latest blog post here:

Kevin Rogers The Copywriter's Edge.

But today I want to hip everyone to an amazing opportunity
for freelance copywriters to join John's new "Stable" of copywriters.

This Stable is made up of a VERY small handful of writers that John
trusts well enough to recommending to his clients.

The writers in turn have private access to John for brainstorming and
critiques on those copy jobs.

I'm privileged to be the Head Writer in John's "Stable" and I can
tell you there's nothing quite like working a gig with John Carlton as
your "wingman."

It's just as intense and exhilarating as you might imagine.

I can also tell you we have WAY more leads right now than we
have good writers to fill the jobs.

Of course, we're always on the lookout for new talent.

So, if you're a freelancer and think you've got the chops to work with
John, you'll want to read what he says in the email below.

If you're interested in someday joining the Stable, remember to
enter through my special link and request me as your coach.

You'll get my full attention and I'm throwing in an in-depth critique
of your final letter -- gratis (Clients pay $500 for my critiques).

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

As John will tell you in the email... going through the SWS coaching
session is in no way a guarantee that you'll receive referrals from us...

... but if you've got the skills and the work ethic we're looking for...

... this is the how to clear the first hurdle and get noticed fast.

OK. Take it away, John...

Howdy...

John Carlton here...

I have recently assembled a highly-qualified Stable of Copywriters
that I recommend to potential clients (who really wish they could
hire me to write their copy).

(I've been bribed, begged and cajoled by marketers desperate for me
to help them personally... however, I have mostly retired from freelancing.
I'm concentrating on teaching and my other businesses.)

This Stable consists of a handful of writers who I can personally
vouch for when it comes to delivering top-quality sales copy in a
professional and timely manner.

These are writers I've either had a hand in training, personally...

... or hired for my own projects when I needed help with the heavy
lifting.

It's a very small group.

What makes them such a powerful group... is that each writer has a
direct line to me for brainstorming and critiquing on jobs that
come through the Stable.

So, what does this have to do with you?

Writers who truly understand the entire process supporting a good
sales message are hard to find.

And to be honest... I'm hoping that the Simple Writing System at-home
mentoring program currently underway will produce more of this high-
caliber professional freelancer.

The current landscape is rotten with people posing as pros, but in
reality have little or no down and dirty sales-making experience.
The result is a twisted train-wreck of lost revenue, blown launches
and BAD feelings.

Nobody wins when freelancers lie about their skill level.

So far, we've graduated an impressive sub-group of students through
the Simple Writing System... who came into the mentoring as business
owners...

... and (after getting very, very good at writing ads) are now either
freelancing as hired-gun copywriters, or are on the fast track to a
launching their new freelance career.

That says a LOT about how this system takes regular people (who are
often terrified and completely clueless about writing to start)... and
quickly turns them into marketing "rock stars".

Just through the simple process of finally learning how to write a
sales message that converts.

So here is why I'm writing to you today: If you are a budding freelance
copywriter (or even a grizzled veteran who knows there are still new
tricks to be discovered)...

...and you have an interest in someday joining my Stable of Copywriters...

...then I urge you to consider joining this session of the SWS at-home
mentoring.

Not only is it a great chance to show off your current chops... and
beef up your ability to persuade and sell...

... but having a working knowledge of my simple 17-step process for
writing world-class sales messages...

...is one of my non-negotiable requirements for any writer I recommend.

Let me be 100% clear about this:

Joining the SWS at-home mentoring session does not guarantee that
you will become a Stable writer or receive client referrals from me.

However, if you do ever want to be that kind of copywriter... who gets
recommended and supported by me...

...then signing up for this SWS at-home mentoring is easily the fastest
route to making that happen.

Some graduates, like Brocton Rye (the Marine who went through the
program in a battle zone), have parlayed their SWS experience into
a real career as a freelance copywriter.

Otto Tromm got so good (after just a week or so of personal mentoring)
that other marketers soon hounded him for help with their copy (after
seeing what he did with his own). So, he stepped away from running
his very lucrative business... and is pursuing the happy independence
and freedom of freelancing.

So, even if you have no interest in joining the Stable... adding SWS
training to your tool-kit will draw real attention in the real world.

And if a slot in the Stable -- next to some of the most famous and
notorious freelancers in the game -- is attractive... well, this is
the way to climb aboard.

If you know in your heart that one of the few remaining spots in
the SWS at-home mentoring belongs to you... then the time to act
is now.

The doors close in less than 24 hours.

Here's the link...

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

See you in class.

Stay frosty,

John

Would it be uncool to say that Kevin was damn good to start with and that he's FRIGHTENINGLY good now that John's flogged him for a year or so?

Would that be uncool to say?

Too late.

Forgive me for being blunt, and no disrespect to the illustrious SWS faculty... but if you are looking to buy Simple Writing System and don't do this with Kevin, you're a FOOL.

I think he may be my favorite copywriter and he's definitely my favorite guy to get feedback from on my OWN copy.

If I was looking to build a freelance career I'd be jumping all over this.

It would probably be even more uncool to say that Kevin is a really nice guy too.

Damn.

Well, now that I said that...

Lots of times aspiring copywriters ask where to study copywriting especially if they don't have the five figures to hire a one-on-one copywriting coach.

They can go the self-study route and work on honing their chops for years. That's the route I went and believe me when I say, it's not always the easiest way.

I went through the SWS program in Nov 2008. Mostly to network with some well-established copywriters with non-public emails... but to continue honing my chops.

I didn't have Kevin as my instructor but I still had a really good instructor nonetheless. Then there was Carlton jumping in to every "classroom" offer... the additional personal advice was priceless. My instructor scored top marks from his students. Kevin scored even higher.

Here's what I suggest:

* Sign up for SWS through Kevin's link above. Grab the sweet payment plan (when I signed up it was a 3 installment, not 8!)

* Request Kevin as an instructor and take advantage of the free crit.

* Check your ego at the door... and pick it up after the SWS course is over. Your ego will only get in the way of maximizing your learning experience.

If you want to truly learn, you will take the advise any of the instructors give you to heart. Look, I was an established, six-figure producing copywriter before signing up for SWS last year and I checked MY ego at the door. It's the best way to break bad habits and learn great new ones.

Best of luck,

Mike

Hey... thanks a lot Mike and Brian. Those kind words mean a lot coming from true pros like you.

Brian, giving you feedback is too easy because your ads are always part of my mandatory reading.

Mike, I'm glad you brought up ego.

When John holds live Hot Seat interventions, entrepreneurs sit down and face not only John and Stan, but a murderer's row of marketing experts (Kilstein, Deutsch, Garfinkel, etc) all waiting to expose any weakness in their biz model.

It can get painful, but they always leave that seat much better off... and grateful for the immediate action plan that will take their biz to the next level.

Point is... the first thing John orders EVERYONE in the room to do before a hot seat is write "my ego" on a sheet of paper, wad it up and toss it in the trash can.

It's an excellent exercise. You can literally feel the air get lighter in the room afterward.

I was very impressed with your ability to do that last year when you joined the SWS, Mike.

As you mentioned, you were already a successful and respected writer and consulted at that time, but you know the secret to staying on top is to always be learning.

In every session of the SWS mentoring, I learn just as much from my students and the other coaches... as anyone does from me.

That's what makes it such a fun and positive environment.

One more important thing to add:

In case you didn't see the email announcement... John has just added a LIVE event in San Diego this January!

Top level speakers all following the rule that they must leave the crowd with 3 action steps they can take on Monday to boost their biz.

John's real big on everyone (at every level) sharing the good stuff, so you know this is going to be a hot seminar.

Tickets will likely go between $2,500 - $5,000... BUT it's FREE for all SWS grads!

So, if you sign up for this SWS through my link, you not only get the free $500 critique of your final letter... the attention of John and I for consideration in his Stable of Copywriters... but a chance to mingle with the biggest names as a special guest at the live event.

BTW, the only way to guarantee you'll have me as your coach is to order through my link.

Otherwise you'll be rolling the dice and my class is filling up quick. (Shockingly, I'm only 2 spots behind Perry Marshall on the affiliate leader board.)

There is a guarantee on your purchase, if it helps your decision. (But retention in the program is an unheard of 88%)

Hope to see you there.

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

All the best,

Kevin

The real key to becoming an insider are the drinking parties.

The real insiders go out for raw food.

And the real real real insiders know what Mike Morgan and Lorrie MF do in their spare time.

Peace.

@ Shane... Thanks man. Nothing more to do... you're good to go.

In fact, the only way to ensure you'll get me as your coach is just how you did it. Well done.

I look forward to getting to know you in class.

@Harlan... so true. Great times after sunset at these events. I'm banking on you to know another amazing raw foods restaurant in SD. I still have no idea what was in that enchilada, but it's among the best things I've ever eaten.

Just make sure you reserve enough space for Mike and Lorrie's "pals" this time.

Hey Everyone...

Just a quick reminder that your chance to get in on John Carlton's
Simple Writing System at-home mentoring...

...and the amazing 777 superstar bonus coaching with Ed Dale, Russell
Brunson and others...

...ends today at 8 PM eastern (that's 5 PM in the west).

I'm told the $74,000 in fast-action bonuses were gone in a flash.

But you can still grab a seat and be assigned to your personal All-Star
mentor who will guide you through the course every step of the way.

We have a lot of fun in the virtual classrooms, and you're guaranteed to
come away armed with the ability to create killer sales messages at will...

...no matter what type of business you're in.

And no matter how superior or dreadful your copywriting skills are
right now.

And, in case you haven't heard, they just announced plans to host a
SWS LIVE event in the coming months. And all former students are
invited at no charge.

This will definitely be one of the hottest seminar tickets of the year,
and the only way to guarantee a seat is to join us for the SWS at-home
mentoring that begins in just a few days.

But do it before 8 PM eastern/5 PM pacific or it'll be gone.

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

See you there,

Kevin

Awesome guys. Thanks for your trust. You will not be let down.

Also, mark your calendars for January in San Diego. This live event is shaping up to be HISTORIC.

SWS students get in free (the ticket price will likely double the cost of SWS!) and you will receive special privileges.

Plus, it will be a blast if we can all meet in person.

Hey Everyone...

Good news... and I'll be as quick as possible here, because in
order to get in on this you'll have to act incredibly fast...

Thanks to you guys, I've made it into the Top 10 affiliates
for this session of the SWS at-home mentoring which begins this
Thursday, October 1st.

(Pretty cool to hear Stan say: "You're just ahead of Filsaime
right now...")

As a reward, John has agreed to open up a very limited number of
seats in my classroom. So, if you're (rightfully) bummed out because
you hesitated to grab your spot...

... this is your one final chance.

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws6kr/kevinrogers/

Even cooler... John added two exclusive bonuses on my secret landing
page to help you make the choice to snatch one of these limited seats
even easier...

The first report is called "How To Close The Sale". These are John's
tried and true methods for knocking your best prospects off the
fence and into your calendar.

I've used these methods myself, and it's made a HUGE difference in
my closing ratio.

Better yet... is how quickly you'll be able to expose tire kickers
and get your client to tell you honestly if they're serious about
hiring you... or just hoping to suck your brain of phree advice.

Next is "5 Swipe File Ads You've Never Seen Before". Killer ads
straight from John's personal vault that you'll immediately add to
your inspiration file.

Each letter includes and intro from John explaining his techniques.

I urge you to grab these rarely seen reports, even if you have no
plans to join the SWS...

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws6kr/kevinrogers/

This link will stay live until Wed and that's it (classes begin
Thursday.)

To skip the reports and see what all the fuss is about...

...just go straight to the sign up page using the link at the
bottom of the page...

https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws6kr/kevinrogers/

I'll look for you inside!

Kevin

P.S. One more BONUS... I'm privileged to have John as a private
resource for brainstorming ideas about writing, advice on handling
clients, and my freelance biz in general.

This is stuff is so good, I almost feel guilty keeping it to myself.

Occasionally, John allows me to tape these conversations (I could
never take notes fast enough to capture everything). I'm hoping
he'll agree to letting me release edited versions to students in my class.

This is the real stuff. John at his raw best, one-on-one with no
audience and holding nothing back.

I can't promise anything until he says yes and approves the tapes,
but he's pretty generous like that and I'm working it hard.

On approval, I'll PM the recording to everyone in my class. No one
else will have access.

P.S.S. The SWS Live event is shaping up to be a legendary
meeting of the minds. It promises to be like no other seminar you've
attended before.

A seat in the SWS is a gratis seat at the event. Escape the dog
days of winter this January and come hang out with me, John and a
slew of marketing big wigs in sunny San Diego!

An incredible opportunity to solidify the virtual friendships you'll
be making in the SWS forums. The atmosphere will be relaxed, but the
teaching will be intense.

Everyone is guaranteed 3 actionable tactics from EVERY speaker --
stuff you can put to use on Monday when you get home.

Plus the networking at this event will be priceless. Every "A-lister"
makes John's events a priority stop. (And who doesn't want an excuse
to be in Sand Diego in January?)

I look forward to meeting you there.

Hey Herrick... the bonuses on the page I linked here: https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws6kr/kevinrogers/ are straight from John.

You'll need to opt-in to that page to get them.

Any further bonuses, like the calls with John, etc. will be shared with anyone who came in through my link. (That includes you!)

On that note... please be cautious when signing up. If you intend to be in my class, you'll need go into the main sales page and sign up straight from my link.

The system counts the last cookie clicked.

Another Warrior just found out he did not make it into my class because he visited some other sites first.

Thanks,

Kevin

Heed Kevin's warning, if you want to get into his group.

I was (at least one of the people) the one who tried to get into Kevin's group but ended up in another mentor's group. I did a lot of surfing and link clicking before I finally ordered through Kevin's link, so I am guessing my cookies got messed up, or I got messed up. Either way it appears I was put in another group. I am sure the material and course will be great though I will miss being in Kevin's group.

Good luck to you all.

Hey Everyone...

Thanks again for all your support. I've got a full class and we start today. Very exciting.

If you couldn't make it in, but would still like to get your hands on the materials, the Home Study Version (minus personal coaching) goes on sale at Noon EST.

Here's the link: https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

Bonuses you ask?

How about, for the first 10 to order through my link... a free 30-minute phone consultation with me to discuss your business or project?

This is the first step of the process when clients hire me to write their sales copy for a minimum of $10,000...

... but I'll include this critical jump start free when you buy the SWS Home Study Course. (The exact same material we've rush shipped to students in the mentoring session)

You and I will dig deep into the mindset of your prospect and quickly define a direction for your copy. After that, the Simple Writing System will guide you like a wise old Sherpa.

I'll even send you an MP3 recording of the call afterward, so you don't have to worry about missing anything.

Here's the link again: https://m190.infusionsoft.com/go/sws/kevinrogers/

Be sure to follow that link straight into the system. If you go clicking around you're cookie could end up in some stranger's jar. You don't want that.

Hope to speak with you soon,

Kevin

Hey Shane,

If your materials get hung up in shipping for any reason, the first few lessons will be posted in the SWS so you can get going. But don't sweat it, we've got 8 weeks. Plenty of time to cover everything.

Not sure exactly when the flood gates open, but John's team is good at communicating, so you'll get the word I'm sure. Only teachers in there so far, so must be coming soon.

See you in there!

Kevin
