lol, reminds me of a spamming campaign I did on myspace a few years ago.
I bought a script that would send friend requests all day and night (this was before the capcha on every 15 requests) for about a month and then spammed all my new found friends comments sections on their profile pages (rather than just spamming without due regards to how spammers are just plain wrong and should go to hell, I added useful comments and a link to the site I was spamming at the time).
Got a few thousand quality back links to the site.

The best I ever did though was 160k links in google (first link on page one) in just over a month but thats another story and with no spamming involved.
I just gave away something for free and then monetised all the traffic it generated.

But seriously, getting first place in google is easy.
All you have to do is have some keywords that are so obscure that noone else would have ever thought to use them in a webpage before and then include them in the copy and head on your page.
Dont expect many hits though cause there aint many people out there looking for really obscure stuff.
Generally these days, now that we have a gazillion websites of total crap on the interwebs clogging up all the 1970's copper cables we have to pay for traffic (unless we are really smart).
I dont know about the money being in the list I keep mine under the bed (not that I dont trust the thieving banksters).
