Noticed that paid members will have the ability to sell physical and digital products through "your payment gateway".

Just wondering if external payment gateways can be used too?

Sure you will be able to. The best way to do that will be to create a payment link. For example a Paypal button or text link.

I also read your signature about your website creator product. Looks interesting, maybe down the road I'll add to my hard drive. I'll look forward you joining the community
