The very first thing you need to do is to put down the credit cards and stop buying – although I will slightly contradict myself later in this explanation.

If you’re anything like I used to be you’re probably thinking that the next report or course or whatever that you’re going to buy is THE one that will get you on your way – that is of course until the next product launch and we go around in circles ad infinitum.

And because we are constantly bombarded with offers we never focus enough time and effort on one strategy long enough to see the results – we’re scared that if we miss Guru X’s launch of Super Dooper Product we’ll miss out on THE secret to making it big online.

Essentially there are two keys to making money online. You need a buyer and an offer – that’s pretty much it – and most products that are released focus on either the buyer (traffic methods) or the offer (monetization methods) or a combination of the two.

We lose focus because there are so many different ways to drive traffic to your offer (and of course there are a multitude of ways to monetize this traffic).

My advice to you would be to focus on ONE method of traffic generation and ONE method of monetization.

When you choose which method of traffic generation to follow look to your own personal strengths and weaknesses, and any potential budget you have.

If you hate writing articles like I do then the only way you will succeed with article marketing is to outsource the work which will of course cost you money.

If you love writing content then maybe article marketing could work for you – as would using blogs to drive traffic to your offers.

If you’ve been online for the past 3 years and spent a lot of money then you’ve probably got everything you need to succeed sat on your hard drive – but because of all of the ‘noise’ out there you’ve been distracted.

My advice:

Unsubscribe from all of the email lists you are subscribed to or set up a Gmail account and get these emails sent to this account. Check this account once per week only.

Do not begin your day by checking your email – you’ll just be dragged off in different directions.

Your focus for the day should be on working on your ONE traffic method and ONE monetization method, or increasing your knowledge of that ONE traffic method or ONE monetization method.

If you check various blogs each day add these into an RSS reader such as Google Reader and check this once per week.

Cut down on your forum surfing. You will either be taken off again in another direction or you’ll see a post discussing your ONE traffic or monetization method where 99% of the people say it’s a great method but where one person disagrees and you’ll focus on that one dissenting voice – we all do this as humans – and then you’ll start questioning whether this method will actually work, lose interest and start all over again.

I’ll probably be shot for this next one but stay away from the WSO board for a period of time – this is purely because of the huge range of traffic and monetization methods sold there. The vast majority of products sold are great but you’ll end up in the old analysis paralysis trap of having too many ways to send traffic to too many different ways of monetization.

Take an inventory of all of your assets – domain names, PLR products etc.

Make a list of all of the subscription sites you are a member of. Cancel any that do not help you with your ONE traffic method or ONE monetization method.

Once you start to succeed with whichever traffic method you decide upon then you can look at adding other traffic methods - don’t keep all of your eggs in one basket.

I joined yesterday and the first weeks’ content is great and I think if you genuinely give it your best shot and just focus on what the course teaches you I think you’ll give yourself a great chance to succeed online.
