Affiliate Marketing 2. Internet Marketing If you've been looking at how to make money online, you've probably heard lots about these terms. People incorrectly use them interchangeably. Affiliate marketing is essentially selling other peoples stuff. You can be an affiliate for insurance companies, selling policies over the phone and making commissions. That’s affiliate marketing, you’re a salesperson for that company; you’re only making money when you sell something and you’re using telemarketing to make that sale. Affiliate marketing is a simple concept, you go out and find things that people want you to sell for them and you make a commission for every sale you make. So, what is internet marketing? Well just like telemarketing, internet marketing is the way you sell something. We can use internet marketing to do something that makes sales in affiliate marketing as well. Many times you’re using internet marketing tactics to do affiliate marketing because its kind of the easiest thing to do online. That’s why these terms are often used together, but I want to clear that they are really 2 different things. Internet marketing is using online methods and tactics like paid search, search engine optimization, email marketing, article marketing, any off these things to capture the searchers online (the people browsing the web) and then selling these people or searchers stuff, either affiliate products or your own goods and services. It’s very similar to a real life business, but there’s a couple of incredibly important differences. In a “real life” store, you do the same thing: you stock other peoples stuff, attracting people from the street through some type of advertising, you try to get them into the store and sell them stuff. The big difference with internet marketing is that you don’t need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a store, inventory, advertising, rent, employees, the list goes on and on. Your store is essentially your website. The people coming up off the street are the online searchers and the stuff that you’re selling is all inventoried and kept by those other people or companies, well at least in the affiliate marketing model and that’s why its so popular; you don’t have to have inventory or spend money up front, you just get paid a commission on every sale you make. You could conceivably start up 10 or 100 of these businesses and not care if one of them doesn't work because there really is no risk or barrier entry, you just invest some of your time. Its also very hands off; you don’t have to go to the store every day or hire people to work there, the internet and technology are your employees. Let’s talk about a simple example of this. Let’s say you started up a website about home theater and you have all sorts of content in there about picking the right TV, DVD player or anything about that market. Your website is your store, you have your displays, a nice looking, helpful environment and information, but the difference is that its all virtual. Your store is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 day a year; no one has to manage it, be there, open it or close it, clean it, or pay for rent..you get the idea. Let’s further say that you recommend a particular TV to your readers or maybe you just run an advertisement, a banner and your site points to a vendor that sells that TV and other things. So a customer visits that vendors store through your site and buys something, you get a commission! Now that’s using internet marketing; you have a website, somehow you got people to visit your website and you sold them on something using affiliate marketing…you just made money online and that could been while you were sleeping! That’s why some people can say ridiculous statements like, “I make money while I sleep.” As crazy as it sounds, its true. |

Here is the mind blowing part..looking at the US with a growth rate of almost 153% in 2010, there was a growth of 94 million internet users in 2011 alone in the US! There are many people that are becoming very rich. So with that said, I only have one question for you..what are you doing to capture your piece of the market? Do you have a passion for something? What do you love to do? The possibilities are endless. Here are some ideas for starting an online business: 1.
