Are You Over Being A Frustrated Internet Marketer?

If So, This is A Seriously Important Message...


At the time I’d made virtually no progress after a whole year working at building my first online business. I did manage to waste countless hours and thousands of dollars, but I had nothing to show for it. I was not doing very well at all.

But this all changed when I starting listening to my mentor, who helped me understand why I was struggling and what I could do to catapult my business into a six figure business in less than 8 months. I never actually thought an ‘AHA’ moment would happen to me – but it did.

Hi, my name’s Rick Nuske and I write this letter to you as a successful full-time online entrepreneur.

Not that long ago, mid 2012, I wouldn't have written this letter to you because I had no idea what I was doing, let alone the fact that I didn’t really have a business that was making much money at all.


What I was doing early on was spending thousands of my hard earned dollars, buying every single possible information product, software solution and the next ‘shiny object’; you name it, I probably own it. I wasn't too sure at the time why I purchased all of this stuff, but I did know that I had a dream of being something more than I was in terms of my personal success and lifestyle choices.


I give thanks to my wife who’s a senior manager at a well-known Australian chocolate company; she works in human resources and she’s one sharp tack! In fact, I’d be willing to bet she’s smarter than I am. She also happens to take care of our personal finances and always has her eye on bank transactions. I remember one specific event that was to start this whole ball rolling, it was late afternoon and she approached me about some transactions that were worrying her. As I said earlier, I was buying everything and anything (including all the affiliate stuff) in the hope of making money online. She’d had enough and wanted to talk about my spending habits.


During this discussion she mentioned that I was living in a dream world and that I was not making any money, but I was spending most of what we did make, every week. I remember becoming defensive and upset, but it was what I needed to hear; she made it even clearer by stating that I didn’t have a business at all, what I had was a dream that was sending us broke.


That was hard on me and I didn’t want to acknowledge that she was right. But I had no choice; bank statements don’t lie. The reality was that I was lying to myself. I was no nearer to finding out how to make money online than when I started.


I was definitely missing the point; and I realized that I was going about it all wrong. I’d spend around $12,560 and made only $1980 made in affiliate commissions. This was not a business; this was a fast-track way to bankruptcy!


The saving grace for me at the time was that I had a huge WHY – I just hated the idea of having to go and work for a boss in a traditional J.O.B. No matter what, I was not going back to that ‘lifestyle’ and I was determined to find a way to make my dream come true. As it turns out, mid-2013 I ended up taking extended leave from my job and this forced me to find a way to make it work. It was one of those sink or swim moments.


As I’ve said before, in my J.O.B. I was miserable, I was never home, I had a young family, and I had a beautiful wife and so on. I wanted to enjoy those things rather than just think about them whilst I was away. This ended up having a serious toll on my health; and I ended up being diagnosed with clinical depression, anxiety and stress. Not all because of my desire to be with my family, but due to the increasingly heavy workload forced on me at that time. In hindsight, this was to be a turning point and the catalyst for becoming a successful online entrepreneur.


“I knew at that stage, that I was never going back to a 9-5 job. I just had to find another way that worked”



It was obvious that having a normal 9-5 job was not going to work for me; I just knew there had to be a better way. So there started my journey as an affiliate marketer. Let me tell you, I was really bad at it early on, and in terms of commissions, I made next to nothing. That said I did learn a lot over time.


Then I met someone; a 50 something woman who at that time, was a complete stranger. We hit it off the very first time we spoke. I remember thinking to myself “man, she is doing really well as an internet marketer [and I vividly recall feeling a burning sensation in my gut from being so fired up that I wasn’t as successful, yet] I just knew that if she could be successful online, so could I. Here was this internet marketer, who was absolutely “crushing it” as they say.


But I knew in my heart that I could get better results than even she was; but I knew achieving her level of success would take everything I had. So I just did it.


“I was privileged to know this woman making six figures, driving her Mercedes, and flying all around the world. I don’t know what it was about her, and what she was doing, but something positive about her stuck with me”



Over the next 6-8 months, I was on a steady learning curve; ironically, I was spending more money because I had more focus and a clearer goal. Needless to point out, my wife was sceptical to put it mildly. I was investing countless hours learning different tactics in the hope of succeeding. An example was my early attempts at email marketing. No surprises for guessing that was also a complete failure early on.


I tried setting up many different websites, purchasing literally dozens of domains with various ideas behind each one; not one of them ended up being any good to me. I was trying to do too much at once. This was one hell of a seriously expensive lesson. By this time, money was getting tighter, and we still needed to pay the mortgage and feed the family. I had to find something that worked because I was not going back to a J.O.B. and answering to a so-called ‘boss’ who didn’t deserve my time.


One day, Jenny and I were chatting, and she got to talking about how to improve the likeliness of making money as affiliates using what is called ‘solo ads’. At that time, solo ads were completely foreign to me and I remember thinking, ‘yeah ok, just another thing that I’ll waste more money on’, not giving too much thought to how this would end up changing everything for my business.


We kept on talking and I soon learnt that solo ads were the very thing that helped Jenny be as successful as she is today; as she puts it, this was her ‘secret sauce’ and that I should look into it. Now, Jenny didn’t have to share this with me, but she’d effectively handed this priceless information to me on a plate, largely because I’d built an honest and open relationship with her.

As you can well imagine, by this time I had every conceivable notion, potion, eBook, software device and paid promise that money could buy; I had so much knowledge about internet marketing, that I suddenly realized something profound.


If I could get targeted traffic, and I could build my own optimized sales funnels, that would end up generating cash sales, then this would result in me being able living the lifestyle I was dreaming of. Now more than ever, my WHY was strong and I finally worked out what it was that I had to do.


So with the mountains of competition in the market already pushing their products, I decided that I was not going to be another ‘me-to’ business. So, instead I chose to focus on learning the art of driving serious amounts of what is called ‘traffic’ to existing affiliate offers that were known to convert very well.

I started buying loads of solo ads and sent the traffic to the affiliate offers I already was a part of. I’m no mathematician, but I soon realized that the numbers were not going to stack up. If I kept pouring money into this like I was, I was going to fail dismally. It was the same old story; I would pay $500 on a solo ad, only to get maybe a couple of hundred dollars back. I would soon be out ‘business’ if I didn’t make a major change to my strategy.


To be really clear, I was suffering badly. I was at that point where I started doubting myself so much, that all I wanted was to be happy. I was far from it. But instead of giving up, I plucked up the courage and told Jenny about the problems I was having. To my surprise, she took me under her wing [so to speak] and started sharing more insider information on how to succeed online.


Shortly after, I remember having my very first ‘AHA’ moment as I was looking over our bank statement. If you haven’t had one, an ‘AHA’ moment is that point in time where you suddenly see something that was in front of you all the time. When it happened to me, I remember thinking ‘why didn’t I see that earlier?”

What I realized by complete chance, is that there was a very clear spending pattern; I was spending most of my money paying people to provide me with solo ads. LIGHT BULB moment!


All of my money was going to the guy sending me traffic who was getting paid, regardless of whether or not I made a single penny! All I was doing was spending loads of cash with very little return.


“It doesn’t make a difference at all to the solo seller if I don’t make a single sale – he gets paid regardless. The answer was staring me in the face – it’s the guy selling the traffic that makes the money!”


Ok then; how do I get on that side of the fence? On the side that collects the cash regardless of what happens? Now, I was really charged up and on a mission; I could see light at the end of the tunnel.


I remember thinking about it like I was the owner of a bank. The guy who owns the bank will always have money (in my case, I would always have access to traffic), and as the person with all the traffic, I was the bank.


This idea came to me when I was driving home from a visit to see friends; it was so clear in my minds’ eye that I almost drove up the rear end of a car in front of me. To say this was a distraction at the time is an understatement! From here on, I was working on being the bank.

This model put everything in my favor; and I remember thinking I could make a lot of money with it.


What’s better is that I soon recognized that less than 1% of people who are on my email list, actually ever bought anything; and the remaining 99% were sitting there like statues doing absolutely nothing.


I realized that I could make available the remaining 99% of my list to marketers who wanted to promote their offers. By making this simple change in thinking and process, not only does it pay for my list building, it also generates a stack of profit!


So after a few days writing down what was happening and explaining it to my ever patient wife, she agreed that I should continue with this strategy, at least until we knew it was going to work, or not.


With that in mind, we set aside a further $10k [borrowed at the time] and I went looking for a mentor who would teach me how to build and operate my own traffic business.


In fact, my success has not come from only one mentor, but from spending time with a couple of close affiliate friends and two well-known mentors whom I invested some serious money with for an extended period of time [money well spent!]


I learnt everything from the basics of email marketing, solo ads, auto- responders, marketing and so on. All of which I was able to take away and implement in a way that saw me making money online in less than 3 months from the time I started being mentored.


The combination of skills and knowledge that I was fortunate to be able to access, allowed me to not only establish my traffic business, but soon after it started, triple my revenue in less than four months.


It was early December that I started my traffic business, and by the end of March, total recorded revenue to date was around $8,095 which was approximately double of what I had taken in during the month of February.


Let’s not kid ourselves though; my path to this point was not all smooth sailing. In fact, it was at times, really tough going. On many occasions, I was near tears from one frustration or another. But that is where my mentor guided me and kept me on track.


You won’t be surprised when I tell you that setting up any business involves effort, time and investment, along with a never-say-die attitude to make it work. This is why most will give up.


So even though I’d spent around $16k all up wasting money and setting up my traffic business, I was now starting to sell a high volume of traffic every day. Not hard, everyone with a business needs traffic.


My cash flow was improving and moving steadily into the black; and now I was seeing profit margins after all expenses were taken care of. From there, the process kept rolling in my favor, I kept reinvesting profits into more traffic, into more profit. Can you see the wealth cycle? The snowball effect had begun.


“By the end of this time I was now starting to sell a high volume of traffic every day and making a healthy profit”



You can imagine how exciting it was to start seeing more money in my account than I’d ever seen before. I realized that there was another side to receiving money where I had to openly accept it so it would continue to stream in. I had to accept that I wasn’t dreaming, and that I had achieved what I set out to do, which was to be financially free; and thus, free from the need to work for a boss in a J.O.B.

I’d move away from PayPal as they’re known to be unreliable and will lock up accounts for little or no reason. I'd opened up a merchant account and customer relationship management system to help further scale up the business.


When you wake up each day and you just know that you’ll have payments in your account, this is an awesome feeling; and one that I really want you to experience. It gives you so much satisfaction that it’s hard to explain. I must be addicted because I can never get enough of seeing new customers and more cash coming into my account.


Following on from what I’d learnt from my mentors and close affiliate marketing friends, I knew that to really make this profitable, I needed to find a way to scale up my business. I wanted to do more than own a traditional traffic business. Which in itself is awesome, but I aspired to do more.


I knew that to be able to consistently generate a six figure income, I needed to:

A. Find and learn from the best mentor I could afford
B. Learn the skills and gather all the knowledge I could and model what my mentor was doing
C. Take what I had learnt and implement it in my own business consistently
D. Document everything that I was doing so I could systemic it, and
E. Teach others to repeat this cycle.


Now I know that my mentor generates over $45k in revenue every month by doing exactly that. So it made absolute sense for me to do exactly the same thing and not deviate. The 5 steps pointed out above are the exact steps that have given him the success and lifestyle that he enjoys every day.


By this time, with the help of mentors and close friends in the industry, I’d developed and documented the entire process of what I was doing in my business; and I was ready to start teaching others to do the same.


The brilliant thing about this niche is that the large majority of people, who are unsuccessful earning affiliate commissions, go on to become very successful traffic business owners after working with me.


The reason they are so successful, is that the business model that I teach them, works very well. Even better, there are no shortages of willing students wanting to learn what you have to teach.


I recall an early experience where I made contact with a guy who was clearly struggling online. I remember that he was in that frame of mind where he was trying to promote his affiliate products on Facebook by stuffing his offer in front of people who were never going to buy from him.

The whole buy my stuff, buy my stuff every post approach never works, at least in my experience. Anyhow, he’d made less than $200 promoting this offer and I felt compelled to help him. He was a nice guy, but he had no idea. Nor do most of us at the start. His name is Wez and he ended up being my first ever coaching student.


In case you’re wondering; we all have to get our first customer; my point here is that you will attract that willing student in due time; and you will be better at this than you may have thought.

You’re probably not surprised by why I was so happy, apart from the fact that several students were now experiencing success in their traffic business. It was because I knew through the use of an application process, that selected students were committed and passionate about doing it their way.


Interestingly, I’ve found a common theme among my students in that they do not enjoy reporting to anyone, or having to be at a certain place at a certain time every day. So when my students experience success it’s a very rewarding experience for everyone, including myself.


As it stands now, students are now making money online consistently every month. Most of my students have been able to reduce their work load whilst increasing their income. One has even gone onto quitting his day J.O.B. and has now been living comfortably without one. In fact, Anthony continues to work with me as his mentor as he plans to learn more on how to triple his revenue over the next few months.

And I want to tell you another little secret that will get you to your financial target quickly. I want you to remember that quality is more important than quantity. This means that you should focus building your business around service quality and forging deep and meaningful relationships. Initially he experienced just as much failure as most affiliates. The difference with him is his level of persistence; it’s unmatched and a very good trait to have.


Before being introduced to me, Luke had spent many thousands of dollars buying lots of information products, promises and systems only to be let down time and again. In less than a month of starting in one of my coaching programs, Luke’s business has gone from making negligible amounts to generating revenues in excess of $3948 in his first three months; with only the minimum of effort required.

From making nothing for over 12 months as an affiliate, to this level of profit in such a short time, was a massive ‘pick-me-up’ for him.

Another key thing I’m noticing is the relationships that are forming with each student, which is a bi-product of the process I did not expect but value. He was in the mindset of buying a business in a box without any effort.


Early on I told him that there’s “no satisfaction without action”. Initially, Anthony was an unsuccessful applicant simply because he was not in the right frame of mind. Anthony was still living in the opportunity mind set and not of a strategic business mindset that’s needed to succeed with this business model. Although at the time he needed to develop his way of thinking, he definitely possessed the same level of potential as the next student. All along the way, my profits continued to grow, to the point where I was hitting maximum potential earnings. After all, I’m one person. So I decided to create a team of traffic business coaches from a selection of my most elite learners. This was a very good decision as it allowed me to scale my business even further, and my traffic coaches leveraged their current position through the use of my credibility in the niche to get a strong foot hold in their own business.


Rick - that’s all great stuff, but how can I get started?

Well, before we move forward, I want to fast-track your success by identifying the key points vital for you to succeed in your traffic business:

A. Build and maintain meaningful client relationships – If you’re only looking to make around $5-6k each month, then you don’t really have any need to work on the relationship side of your business.


That said, I know that it’s easier to scale up your business by focusing on building relationships with your clients by focusing on the long term strategy that will deliver outcomes for their business, whilst allowing you to achieve your own strategic objectives.


What is important early on is to have your own sales funnel that takes each person through a progressively more involved step in your relationship, that will move them towards your premium, back end coaching product.

B. Establish a foothold in the niche and create business stability – stability in your business is everything; what this means is that you are now actually considering a business model [traffic business model] that IS as stable as you could hope to find. Everyone needs traffic; it’s a given. No matter whom you are online, we all need traffic; it’s the life source of any online business. Having your own traffic business and selling traffic is like providing water. There’s absolutely NO selling required – everyone needs it. What a beautiful business model; Clients will approach you for traffic regardless of if you market your traffic business!


C. Sharing what you know as a teacher to your own students – In my way of thinking, there’s not much use if you never transfer your knowledge to someone else. Although the idea of training people was foreign to me when I first started, I’ve since recognised the potential to build a rock solid business by teaching others what I know. What a lot of entrepreneurs don’t recognise is that their success depends on the people they teach. As you travel down this path, the real trick is to make sure to document everything that you learn as you go; be sure to take videos, record audio etc. By doing so you are designing your training packages as you go, which you can use to transfer knowledge efficiently to your own students.


D. Find a good mentor who is doing what you want to do and work closely with them – I only wish I’d taken this advice about 24 months earlier than I did. I could have been a lot further down the track – hindsight is a beautiful thing. Doing things on your own is not the way to speed up your progress towards owning your own successful online business. You need someone to model your own business from or else you will likely make expensive mistakes that consume your time and money.


Nothing beats having a one-on-one mentor to guide you through the developmental phase of your business. Although information products on how to build an online business have their place, they will never beat the value you get from working with a living, breathing mentor. Mentors listen and respond to your questions; and the biggest thing with a mentor is that they've already done what you want to do and they listen to your struggles and provide solutions at every step along the way.


Another really important reason to get your own mentor is to guide you during the first handful of weeks. Student learning needs change daily and your questions will continue to develop into more complex levels which you will need guidance with. You will have your own unique set of circumstances, your own learning style, your own level of existing knowledge and experience; and you will need to reveal these things to your mentor who will be able to see you in a way that you are not able to. Having someone external to your own reality helps makes a massive difference.
