Using BBCode

by WarriorForum.com 13 replies
BBCode is the main markup language or formatting medium for the forums. These tags are what you use all the time whenever you post a new thread or reply to a thread, but, most importantly, it’s these tags that help in formatting your sales copy to your liking and placing your images or text in their proper places.

These tags are similar to the HTML language but instead of enclosing the tags in “ < >” you will find them enclosed in “[ ]”. Like HTML, they start with [ ] and end with [/] and always work in pairs. We have multiple tags here that you can use to help format your responses or your threads, of course there’s no need to memorize them. When creating posts or threads ( provided you click or ), you will be taken to this page:

This is where you will type your messages and format your sales copy. You can see on the top most part are two rows of formatting buttons, hovering your mouse pointer over the buttons show you their labels. Clicking these buttons automatically insert the formatting in to your thread.

Two ways of formatting your thread:
1.Inputting text, highlighting and pressing the chosen formatting button.
2. Clicking the formatting tool then inputting the text in between.
As you can see, in order for the tags to take effect on your text you need to enclose it in between the 2 tags, the opening tag and the closing tag.

We’ll use a legend for this:
Red Text - BBCode Beginning/opening
Green Text - Text/content
Blue Text - BBCode Ending/closing
** for demonstration purposes spaces will be placed in between brackets to show the tags properly

For example, you want to make your text bold:

[ B]text[ /B] will get the result = text

*Note: always remember to “close” your tags or else it will affect the rest of your text. Let’s say you want this kind of effect: This is a test.

[ I][ B]This[ /B] is a test.[ /I]

If you don’t close your tags properly you’ll get a different result, say, you forgot to close the bold tag, the entire sentence will be bold and italicized instead of just the word “this”.

        Hi,

        Thanks for the reply.

I could seem to add an attachment to a PM so I've included one here.

        Thanks

          Hi Peter,

The reason why you don't get the same text box is because you are using the basic text box only. You may change your settings to using the Enhanced Interface - WYSIWYG Editing.

          1. Click User CP
          2. Click Edit Options
          3. Scroll down to the last part, under Miscellaneous Options
          4. Click the drop down menu for Message Editor Interface, select Enhanced Interface - WYSIWYG Editing
          5. Click Save Changes

You should have the full tool bar in your message editor now.

Whichever editor setting that you use, BBCode will be the means for fixing your thread, there's no other option or coding you can use on this forum but BBcode when you post.
