    • Hi Methomas,

I emailed you at JV-Edge but have not received a reply from you.
It will be great if I can work with you.
You can reach me at pearlins@gmail.com

I have a small list in the IM niche.
      Thanks!

  • hi, maybe you can tell us more about what JV edge is?
  • Depending on what niche you're in, I think I've got some advice for you. I'll assume your list is interested in IM.

First off: Since you posted this almost 2 weeks ago I think you might have a decent list (42 more than when you wrote this @ 3/day). Join JVNotifyPro.com and you can monetize your list with product launches that you will be notified about via email. There are TONS of product launches each month. Pick them carefully. As you said, you don't want to appear to be a spammer. Another trick is to purchase some PLR garbage to feed them (either for free, or a small price).

Second: I assume you have a website... are you monetizing it? If not, then why?? I'd say go with a Wordpress blog and use the WP-O-Matic and GoCodes plugins to create content and links to affiliate offers, respectively (PM me for the link to the WF post that clarifies this sentence for you).

Also PM me for JV opportunities. I'm just now setting up my IM site. If you are in the credit building or World of Warcraft niches, I can also do those.

    Happy Earning,
    TheCren

    • Like the idea, it is difficult when you have no name and no money, I have lot's of plr stuff you can use in return for advertising some of my offers - I am following you on twitter, let me know if interested - dean

    • Why assume he is on a IM niche.
If he only started 1 month ago, and he is going on the IM niche this is un-logical ...
If you go IM and have nothing to really give your list you are going to get a bad name, this is like a pyramid game. If you have experience then you go IM it is something alse.
    • Hi,

Not enough post to pm could you pm me with more infp?
    • Just a point butsurely you are better writing soem good content, it is not rocket science, if you know your niche. Even newbies understand that PLR content is garbage, and most people don't want or need it
  • Agreed..doing some affiliate marketing, and list building for tatoos...any products I can sell them ? I have about 100 people, but from PPC...kinda expensive.

Will be on WF more, listeing to Yaro Starak audio now...cool stuff.
  • Hi

Lots has happened since this post - I was and am in the IM niche and have plenty of useful information for my list - although I am in the process of writing a new series.

I am also working in the Real Estate Niche, and have recently looked at site flipping.

I have seen some good results in the last few weeks - using various traffic generation techniques. I will be sharing these in the future - if someone relatively new to the game can generate the traffic organically - why can't other newbies? I feel I am well placed to help aswell, as it wasn't to long ago I was there.

Who knows - I may even have some ideas that seasoned Im'ers don't have!

Although this game is one of experience, I also think it is down to personality. I am proactive, don't put things off 'till tomorrow' and have lots of drive and ambition. This has helped me grow my business initially, and now I can afford to outsource certain things, which, in my opinion, is the best way to progress, as you can focus on other aspects OR broaden your skillbase.

I have met some good people along the way, and have forged good working relationships, I also think that JV's are a good way to grow. At the minute I have 3 websites in the pipeline, i am working with 3 seperate partners.

The reason for this is because as of yet, I haven't had time to research and teach myself Web Design, although I will do when I have the time.

Using the knowledge I have, I am responsible for marketing the sites - so I don't have to pay a designer.

You may say I will only see 50% of the profits - BUT I stick to what I know, and what I can do efficiently. If I made my own site then I would only have 1 in the pipeline and it would take me longer to produce, whereas, I now have 3 being worked on - do the maths!

I work full time as an accountant - so its not easy. I have set a date to quit in 6 months though. That is what I am working towards. I have my goals written down and I have already achieved half of them.

Personally, I am pleased with what I am building - when it is built and I have the time. I will make it my mission to help people change their lives, I know that it is changing mine.

    Regards

    David Chamberlain

    • I think the idea is a good one! For a long time, a long time ago I banged my head on a brick wall trying to get some (what I thought were) quality products to market, and to no avail.

I then wrote a 50 page ebook warning people of the scams that were around, and providing genuine work from home opportunies offered by some of Americas top companies. I then completed a software product to save people money and time, all the time targeted at people new to the internet. The problem was I spent my time creating new ideas, solutions, websites and products, and little time building lists of ineterested people.

I hate spam, bullshit and scammy bonuses, and personally I stay away from these as a customer. I therefore dont do this kind of stuff with my own products.

What I have just started is (as you mention) site flipping, and have sold 3 to date. I have just finished the basic foundation for my next site at www.sites4sale.aceslegacy.com, and here I start to deal with the flipping business and Internet traffic, etc.

I have a range of great products and product ideas, and I would love nothing more than to see a small group of newbies make lots of money from these, keeping the gurus away. I mean, 200 newbies with marketing lists of 100 people each is already 20000 subscribers to promote to.

I will be subscribing to this thread to see where it goes. In the meantime, if anyone is interested in this concept, and wants to get involved or take a look at what I have on the new site, let me know. That would be cool.

      Thanks for this thread

  • Hi Bryce

I like your take on things.

When you start out - everyone is offering to help, BUT they will take your money first, and after that - you will be lucky to hear from them sometimes!

As I am only growing my business now, I find it hard to give people a hand up - but I will do so when I have the time to.

I have lots of ambitions and I want to experience as many ways to make a living online as possible - obviously not all at once - but I'm only young, so time is on my side!

Let me know about your products - and maybe we should try and do something with your idea of 200 newbies.

Either PM me - or my Skype details are on my profile!

    Thanks

    • Thanks Dave,

You are right about the "taking your money" thing, I have been there many times. This is one of the reasons I designed and built the EZYTRAK system, and only went with offers and deals that had a minimum of 30days guarantee time. This gave me time to analyse the material, decide if it was for me, and then EZYTRAK would automatically remind when the guarantee deadline was looming. I could then effect the guarantee in time.

I was also considering a small site that was dedicated to "Poor Online Service" where bad sellers, merchants, etc would be listed for all to see. In fact this could still be on the cards. Maybe it is something that Newbies could benefit by.... Like an early warning system of sorts. Hmmmm lets not give too much away in case we can set this up.

Regarding your "giving people a hand up" I believe this has already been done by you creating this thread. I think there is always scope for people to help others, no matter where they are at. There is always going to be people that know less than you do.

Your attitude and ambitions are what is important to succeed. It sounds like you are certianly in the right head space to make it work for you.

I will PM you with details about the products. In the meantime, if you would like to take a look at the EZYTRAK software details head over to www.ezytrak.com and there you will find the "sample" page with a tutorial linked to it. This will give you an overview of the product. Personally I think every person who is spending money online, should have it. It will save them lots of money and time.

Talk soon - I love the idea of forming a Newbie space where everyone can benefit with very little resources.

      Regards
      Bryce
    • Hey Dave
I am a true newbie myself. I started a blog about a week ago. I found this warrior forum and there is so much information here. I enjoy reading your posts as it makes me feel like I can do this internet thing. I also work full time and would really jump at the chance to be able to work from home doing something I love. Creating an online business!
  • This is a truly great idea and I will be following this thread closely as I am currently writing a series of ebooks for Newbies.

  • Hi Marketopoly

I'm in the same process - writing a comprehensive collection of e-books on traffic generation.

I really think that we can provide a resource - maybe just a website with books/software which we have tried and tested.

This vetting process will mean that the only products on the site are reputable, valuable and easy to use/implement.

I'll make it my aim to try and get something sorted soon!

Once we have something up and running, we will just have to look for people to contribute products for free - Or provide products to be reviewed and sold.

    Regards

    Dave
    • [1] reply
    • Personally I think the basic provision of books and software is not enough! Think about all the issues and brick walls you have come across since being online, and i believe there could be a site creation here, that outstrips everything already in place. A one stop shop for newbies. (AND ONLY NEWBIES)

I like the idea of "vetting" and there are some different ways of doing this! i agree with the idea of only having material that has been tested by the site developers, and or members, and this will go a long way for the reputation of the site.

There is also scope for a Membership Site beyond compare! A small monthly charge for anything and everything avaiable on the site.

Although i have not added the membership option yet, my site at www.sites4sale.aceslegacy.com is already providing useful articles (unique) and resources that I have personally used, tested, and enjoyed. The initial flavour of the site was to to sell websites, and I have now expanded this to run along my original platform of The Newbie Lounge.

This is already getting exciting, and more serious conversation and planning should probably be happening off forum.

  • Hi Bryce,

Me too - I spent lots of time on the product development and little time on promotion and list building. I am not in the IM niche but might consider it as soon as I have success in some of the areas of IM.
I noticed that it is not easy to approach people with big lists.
I have a small list and I'd like to do a JV as you mention with 200 other people with small (100 people) lists - that will be over 20,000 subscribers to promote to!

Thanks for starting this thread Dave and for all the interesting ideas expressed here.

    Lia
    • [1] reply
    • Hi there Lia,

Thanks for stopping by! You are right, it isnt easy to get any response from those people who label themselves GURUS. Big list, small list, we are all here for the same reason. We all fundamentally desire to make a little (or a lot) of money online, and thats what some people tend to lose sight of.

People with huge lists are often non-campassionate people who only have the dollar signs in their eyes, and this always makes it difficult for the genuine carers to crack into the market. We have to deal with the reputations that others cast, because they get to market generally before the little guy. This is not true of them all, but it id for the vast majority.

The idea of pooling resources, and spending time developing a "zone" just for new people is a cool idea, and we will make this happen. Keep in touch and pop back when you can to keep on top of whats new. I am acting on this idea as we speak, and while Dave is busy with his job and other projects, I will do what I can to formulate something solid, reputable and valuable.

Maybe PM me (or Dave) with details about what line you are in.

      Sincerely
      Bryce
  • Hello Elaine,

Glad you found the thread, and it may be worth bookmarking it, lol - just so you can find it again easily when you need to.

I like your attitude that your subscribers are precious, this is the whole issue. Wanting to actually make a difference in their lives and not just extract money from their pockets, is the way to long term trust building and voluntary spending. 40 subscribers is very cool! I hope you are proud of your acheivement

Building websites can be very daunting to new people, and although these days there are many software platforms for them to do it easily, I have found that building a site is only one aspect of it. You also need to understand the site, and what it does. In fact it is a good idea, to know what each component on the site does, and how they each work in unison with the others. This is usually the daunting part.

The time it can take to build a functional site, can be extensive when considering bugs, error messages, and other nasties that may pop up. Even a single page website can present these issues, so your product range should make a lot of people happy.

Just make sure (for credibility sake) that the "Make Money Online" product range you offer people has been tested by you or someone you know, so that you can truly verify the products worthiness. There is nothing worse in my opinion, than a product being promoted as the best thing to make money, when the seller does not use it themselves, or hasnt used it in the past.

Elaine, pop back here as frequently as you can to see what is happening. A list swap is a cool idea, but we have (I think) much more on the planning agenda, and my conversations with Dave thus far, see us on the same level as far as the desire to make sure that "every" newbie who would like to participate, will receive the best value they can.

I appreciate your feedback and your visit here. Thank you.

    Sincerely
    Bryce
  • Totally agree, and what is important to achieve this is great value for the customer, every month! Even if its $5 or $10 a month, over a year multiplied by even 100 customers, starts to make a difference. The recurring income is also vital to cover costs and continue to develop and find new products that will fit the required supply.

    Thanks for the post honestbizpro

  • Hi to everyone who just found this thread.

One thing I will do is keep everyone informed of what we plan to do. I will also keep everyone informed of what I am personally doing for my business.

I only started in February - so if I can make it a succes, anyone can.

As Bryce has been saying - we have lots of exciting ideas, and when time permits we will act on them and create something for all the newbies out there!

I'd like to talk to everyone more - so you can either email me or get in touch via skype. Anything I can help with, or information I can pass on - I will do my best to. Even if you just want to talk to someone about an idea you have, call or email me.

I think all my details are on my profile!

    • Hi everyone,

Well it looks like we are good to go, so I was wondering.....

As a newbie, or someone new to the world of making money online, what would be the top 3 things you feel would benefit you the most? In other words, take a look at where you are at, and where you want to be this time in 2 months, what would be the three most important things to get you there?

If you can list them here, we can source the best we can for you!

      Ideas......

Traffic, Product, Hosting Services, Domain Names, Advice, Ideas, Website Development, Blog, Themes, Graphics, etc etc etc.

      Sincerely
      Bryce
  • First of all, enjoy reading this post... and Bryce you are dead on when you said...

"This guru you promote is the one who sold me a product quoted as "the best thing ever", only to find that the information was more than 4 years old, and some of the sites listed in the product were no longer online. This is NOT someone I would ever do business with again. For him to even put his name to such a promotion is shameful."

I for one stay away from most so called gurus or experts.

I usually take a quick look if they are offering something, but if I see anything like I witnessed in that example, that's it for me. To top that one off, I actually wrote a nce explanation why I was unimpressed with the product, and not only did I NOT receive a reply, the same product was promoted to me again through email, a couple of days later. I removed myself from the mailing list.

      Thanks for your post littlejake

  • Congratulatione Elaine.

It's such a good feeling when you connect with your subscribers, I always let my subscribers know I'm approachable. I like to talk to people and get to know their story. I may be able to learn something from them also.

On tip, tell him not to be desperate. People who need to make money online tend to move from method to method - make sure you get him to focus on one area.

A good way to make quick cash is to freelance, but if he has no specific skills to offer then I'd probably start with affiliate marketing - but don't spend a thing yet!

If you need any help - get in touch.

    Take Care

    • Well put Dave,

I meant to say the same thing about desperation, but got side tracked when I wrote about integrity, hahahaha.

Dave is exactly right about the "method to method" concept and I am speaking from experience. This type of desperation can cost an arm and a leg, and in the end, you are right back at square one, with NO money. It is better to be desperate and have a little money, and to be desperate and broke.

In fact if anyone is contemplating joining something like affiliate marketing, etc - maybe throw the product into the conversation here before you do. We may have already paid for it, tried it, or heard of people that have reviewed it.

      Back soon

PPC is definitely a skill to learn - you can really lose a lot of money if you don't know what your doing!

Thankyou for your kindness. My mother is fine (well as can be expected), my grandmother passed away. She was 92 so I guess she had a great life, she was a wonderful lady.

First to Bryce, sorry to hear about your grandmother. I know what it's like as all my grandparents are gone, and only my mother is still with us, and she's 70, but threatening to live forever. LOL.
Elaine - thanks for a great post about marketing and list building.
I am new to this as well, and I set up my second website on Saturday. I am using PLR to sell ebooks, but I am also offering free reports. I am now going to write some articles for my new site.
From my first site, I have a list of 2 people, so I am hoping to build on that. I am also still looking forward to making my first sale.

Thankyou for your kindness! I have one grandparent remaining with us now, and my mum is still going strong as well. It is never nice to lose people we love, and although we all know it comes our way at some point, it is something I never get used to.

Welcome to the thread and congrats on the 2nd site my friend. 2 people on a list is better than nobody on your list, and it is from small beginnings big things are realised. We will help all we can, and I am sure you will find some great information in coming days, as has already been found in Elaines post and others as well.

Thanks again Mike, keep in touch

  • This thread should be turned into a sticky LOL I have this thread and a couple of other sites bookmarked. Now, how about something for someone with a quality product but no list? I cannot afford to give it away but there are commissions and it is a quality product. The last book I did was actually reviewed by a fairly well known site but unfortunately, nothing was ever done with that site to keep it alive and it fell by the wayside. If you have room for contributors and/or writers, I would love to offer my services as well.

I agree about the sticky thing, lol - maybe when we have a few more entries and the traffic starts to come, haha. Your product sounds interesting, and I would love to take a look. Over the next few days we will be starting on setting up the basic framework for the Newbie Lounge, and this is where we can utilise and help with your products.

Is your product suitable for newbies?

Anyway keep coming back and if you have any suggestions as to content or contribution that you think you can offer, dont hesitate to PM me, or contact Dave. You are most welcome.
    • As I'm in the Forex Niche with my forex blog review, we (my 114 subscribers list and I lol) can't get involved in your great project. Unfortunately, i really support what you're doing and we should be trying to do that oftener as it is more than tough to find partners when you're beginning ! Don't worry, we'll all succeed one day !

  • Hi Ward!

Would you consider giving away the first few pages/1st chapter as a taster - get them hooked!

Or you could do a short report based on the same subject matter...and then offer them the book later.

Also think about maybe breaking the book into parts and selling it as a sequel - you can charge more for it that way.

Or you could record the book and sell it as DVDs...

    The possibilities are endless!!

    Wishing you every success,

    • One of the best threads I've seen on WF. Many thanks to originator and all others who've contributed. I've subscribed, and will hope for many more updates.
  • I would certainly be willing to give away some sample chapters. I do not even have an autoresponder at the moment, but giving away two or three chapters would not be a problem at all.

As for recording? I am the proverbial hillbilly when I talk. With my written words, I could convince people to do things that I would never talk about in public but as soon as I open my mouth people automatically think stupid. One of the things I want to do is actually begin a series on youtube as The Revolutionary Redneck (Since all of the hillbilly monikers I could think of were taken) but to try to capitalize on that. For instructional and informational materials, a video or my voice would not be advisable. Additionally, many of the common grammatical and spelling errors would not be discernible to many people no matter what accent the words were spoken with.

If you do want more information or want to work something out, just let me know what you need please!

    With thanks,

    • Ward, there are other options for turning your work into recordable products. Have you considered someone to vocalise the book for you!? This is something relatively easy to orgabise. In fact a freind of mine in England wrote a series of childrens books and I suggested to him that they would be a great set of recorded books. He too did not like his speaking voice, and I organised that for him. The project was a success.

If you know someone who has a great speaking voice and the right software to record, it may be worth compiling them this way, even as an alternative.

    • Hi Wade!

What niche is your book in, ie what is about & what market are you aiming it at?

If you would like to send me a Private Message, I'll help you any way I can.

  • Does anyone have know where i can find step by step detail of the techical parts of list building how to link and autresponder to my webpage how to setup a squeeze page and exactly what a squeeze page is etc... i know this is my next step but want to do it properly and dont know where to begin

    • Hi Nash,

Lets deal with the autoresponder first because it is important to have this set up, or at least, ready to set up for your squeeze page. What service are you using for your autoresponder? There is Aweber and GetResponse, and there are one or two others, but these seem to be the main two, with Aweber being the most widely used I think.

I do have details of a third, that is offering a free trial account so if you have not got an account with anyone yet, and you would like to see the details for this trial account, let me know and I will forward the details.

A squeeze page is a "capture" page that is usually a single page with a simple form on it for your visitors to sign up for a product, package or newsletter. It may be that you have a brief on the product or service or maybe very little information at all, but this is generally what a squeeze page is. You would install the HTML code (easy copy & paste) into the page which would generate the form produced by your autoresponder account. Then when a visitor completed the form details and clicked on submit, their information would be stored in your autoresponder account, ready for you to communicate with.

      Regards
      Bryce
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • Hi Nash!

It's hard to get this all straight in your head when you start, isn't it - I've been there!

In a nutshell the steps are:

      • Buy a domain name/website address - I bought mine from 123 Reg.
      • Build a squeeze page using a Web Editor. I used Kompozer which is free.
      • Set up an account with aweber/Get Response. I use aweber and find them great (I'm not an affiliate!). I think Get Response might be a bit less user friendly.
      • Create an opt-in form with aweber and add it to your squeeze page.
      • Compose autoresponder messages with aweber which go out to your list on a regular basis so you can build up a relationship with them.
Regarding building a squeeze page/one page website, I did this myself and I promise you I was not a techie whizz-kid by any means! I followed the step-by-step instructions in "Create Your First Website by 3:45 This Afternoon". This is not a sales pitch, because the book is free - there is a link to it below if you are interested.

Keep in touch - we've all been where you are now!

  • Thanks guys, i have a domain and am hosted by hostmonster currently. where are the names sent after people have signed up does aweber automatically when i send autoresponse put peoples first names in like i often get? do they keep the database of email adresses i am just trying to get the picture in my head what is done by my host Cpanel amd what is done by aweber does aweber have tutorials or is there any tutorial you know of.

elaine i am glad to be the first person to give you a thanks.

I really think there is a market for very newbies that is still not tapped and one can sell ebook for $2-$5that really step by step of the very basics also review products so no money is wasted on over promised sales pages

    • Hi Nashelver

Aweber is a standalone autoresponder, I use Getresponse, and I presume it is a similar set-up.

basically, they mange the list, you load up your autoresponder messages and you can also send one-of 'broadcasts'.

People register their name and email address and when you sned an email you may put [First name], Read this. It picks up the name of your subscriber.

I know GetResponse has video tutorials, and I have a good delivery rate, but do your research and choose what you feel best. Make sure you sign up through another Newbies affiliate link if you do. I won't cost you anymore, but you are helping someone, and they will return the favour in the future!

      Take care

      Dave
    • Hi Nash!

      Thanks for the thanks!!

The opt-in form people type their name and email address into is provided by aweber - aweber give you code that you copy and paste into the code relating to your web page and the opt-in form appears on the web page.

When someone types in their details they get an email asking them to verify their request and once they have done that their name is transferred onto your list at aweber. You set up messages to go out automatically to the people on that list. One straightaway giving a link to where they can download the free product and then every few days after that. And yes, you can fix it so each message is personalised.

Aweber do have tutorials and the have a good support system too.

      Hope this helps...

Hi well if it helps you feel how everyone else does, i think the only solution is to take it one step at a time ... have one product one website that you advertise and do something different for every day just so you actually start doing and not just learning ... and instead of looking for money in the beginning think of traffic as your final goal because if you can generate traffic to a non profitable site if you find a profitable site that traffic will mean money.

Plus what helps me when i get very frustrated is thinking the million dollar IM people were not born with this knowledge and had to learn just like you and i so why not start now.

some WF member had a quote in theis signature that i loved. " the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago , the second best time is now."
  • Hi i found a site that i think all newbies should look at has alot of good free advice and videos to get you started ... be careful of some of the sells that are being done through the site but in general a very good free website for affiliate marketing its affilorama.com it has alot of good reviews in the Forum and i found it really good.

    Thanks

  • Dave,

Just added my thanks for starting this thread.

I have not read all the posts in it yet but am looking forward to catching up on what's been shared (and I've subscribed to keep up).

This idea may already have been offered in the posts I haven't read yet, but as far as doing jv with each other's lists, if list totals vary, it can still work. Just have everyone email the same number of people on their list. So if someone has 500 and someone only has 300, they can still partner, but the one with 500 would only send to 300 off their list.

I really like the idea of a one-stop shop/membership site for newbies.

    • Welcome Heather

You are right on jetinc! It does take time, and time is something we all have. The problem is every second wasted is a second lost, and there is so much wasteful information out there, we can go for months and still not get past stage one!

This is the idea behind the newbie site! A place to save all newbies that time, that most hardened IMers have endured. A place to kick start your online business.

Welcome IM Biz System! Would love to see your page when it is ready

I know this feeling well paulied. Been there and bought the t-shirt, and I have also struggled through other issues at the same time. As the posts here suggest, information overload can be a dangerous thing, and we all need to be able to focus on one thing at a time, until it is within our means to multi-task.

For every seasoned Internet Marketer out there, there are probably 10,000 newbies, and from these newbies, only around 500 will ever make any money online. Information overload is largely responsible for the other 9500 not making any money. Hopefully we can swing the odds in our favour here.

      Welcome to the thread

      Welcome to the thread Traveller51

Cool post Alfred, thanks! I will take a look at the site and see what it offers people new to the internet.

Like Elaine has said Crystal, great idea! Although I would like to see something a little more flexible for some people. Some new people will not have a list at all, and this should not exclude them from anything we attempt to run here.

Just my thoughts, but it would be cool to have things so that every member can benefit.

More great information Dave! Be in touch soon

Welcome Tom, and thankyou! Although Dave was responsible for the thread being started, I just bombarded my way in, LOL.

      Welcome!!

Cool Joe, glad you like the thread. Welcome, and look forward to seeing you in the coming days

    • Hi Missy she, and welcome.....

I can relate to your situation as I am sure most new internet entrepreneurs can. Availability of working capital can be a big frustration, but if it is any help at all, I can tell you that I almost went through bankruptcy a year ago, struggled on, and am still here doing what I love to do. Money sure helps, and it certainly makes some things a lot easier, but spending more money is not always going to generate the results you wanted in the first place.

Hopefully what we can do through this thread and future plans for the Membership site, is provide you with as many resources as possible for little or no cost.

I will hop on over and take a look at your site now, and come back here to post my comments. Just wanted to let you know I had read your post, and welcome you on board here!
  • thanks Bryce , awaiting your comments.
    • [1] reply
    • Hi missy she,

Been to have a look at your site and although the site itself looks cool, it is marketing a product that has been available for some time. I can only critique something from my personal experience, and as I havent experienced the product, I can't really comment on its effectiveness. I can give you my honest review of the site though, and I will do that here. Before I do this, I would just like to explain to you, that I generally view things from the perspective of a potential customer, and I do have some fairly tight guidelines that I habitually follow, before I will spend money with someone online.

The first thing that hits me about the site, is that there is no "pop up" asking me to sign up for a newsletter or gimmick! I liked this passive nature and it allows me to study the content on the page without giving a second thought to the fact that you will eventually ask me to buy something. However in saying that, maybe the strategic placement of a couple of capture boxes, offering a free excerpt or report, would be an advantage to building your list.

The only place on the page which asks me to action something is at the bottom of the page and it is the "buy now" button.

When I click on the buy now button, I go through to paypal, where I am asked to spend $97 and I notice that the paypal account name is something very different from any reference on the site. Maybe look at changing that or adding a new name to your paypal account that reflects the website name. This would give the purchase process a little more credibility in my opinion.

One of the most important things that I look at (personally) when deciding on a purchase or not, is the layout and the content on the sales page. In this case, the layout is off center and this throws me a little. I will explain to you why (as a customer) I feel this way when I land on any page that is not positioned correctly, is full of spelling errors, or is messy.

My theory is that if a seller or site owner puts little effort into the presentation of the package, there is little liklihood that the expected level of detail has been applied to thier product, or the level of service I might expect to recieve as a customer. This may be just me, but from my research a couple of years ago, it would appear that more than 70% of all internet visitors would feel the same way. The stats showed me that in 2007, 64% of all people polled, would not buy something from a site that presented poorly. In the same research project, more than 80% of all website owners told me that if they were aware of problems on thier presentation, they would do everything in their power to rectify them.

So from a list building perspective, maybe add those lead capture boxes to capture someones email address, by offering something free. Also maybe reallign your page so that it centres in the page, and for those people who will actually click on the buy now button to check the paypal details, change the account name at the top of the page so it looks more like it is a genuine account attached to this site.

I hope this helps in some small way, and if I can be of help with anything, please dont hesitate to contact me.

      Bryce

  • Hey guys,

This is a great idea! I love it.

There's plenty of ways to grow your list. In fact, I'm a complete noob to IM, but was able to generate over 100 double opt in for my list in just a couple of days with free traffic resources. It was really intense. All I was doing was giving away a free 30 page report that I wrote and got a huge response with. Now I'm just "moving the free line" as one marketer we all know puts it. Releasing video's and updating my blog with useful info for my list.

My niche is not in the IM market, I decided to go with something I do have experience with.

I've got a huge launch tree board that I created hanging up in my home office and I'll just give you an idea of the next steps I have written up on there:

    - Release more free material.
    - Find JVs with simular products.
    - Survey list.
    - Contact Jv (max 3)
    - Interview JV's and release audio to JVs list and my list. (build list)
    - Create product and bonuses.
    - Release $27 product for market testing.

Hope this helps those of you starting out. If you're intrested in what my site is all about, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Here's wishing you all a ton of success!

    • Even though I have been trying and trying to be an affiliate marketer for the past 3 months, I haven't really gotten anywhere. I have written articles, squidoo, usfreeads, and 2 websites, etc etc. I still have made 0 sales. I can get up to the #1 spot on google but that doesn't help either.

Can someone lead me in a direction of building a list, like what is it, how to do it, that sort of thing? I get emails daily from places I have signed up for free stuff and other so I am on a bunch of lists, but I want to have my own but don't have a clue as to how to do it.

      Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Hi all,

I've just book marked this. I am a newbie. I can design graphics and simple webpages including squeze pages using forms from any of the email marketing companies out there like GetResponse, Aweber etc. My very first attempt at creating something for a ClickBank product went very baddly wrong so I've come to learn as much as possible.

I will be following this discussion.
  • As a newbie, I've been looking for a effective way to spend my time, since I'm the only one to do IM= = Anyone got some effective way out there?
    • [1] reply

    • The best way to spend your time as a newbie is learning and doing, just keep repeating this over and over again.

If you learn to much, you will switch off.

What level are you at? Have you got your own website? Do you have an autoresponder?

Let me knwo a bit more about your situation, and i'll give you some better advice!

    • I feel a little awkward posting here, because unlike you guys I do not have a set plan. However, I have gotten so many questions over the years from newbies about how to even post a banner somewhere. I would not call anyone here a newbie as you have plans and are taken action to implement them.

I have just started a brand spanking new social network, as a matter of fact I am still working on the back end a little, and have not added hardly any content yet, and I still need to work on some original graphics. The whole idea behind this network is for people to learn how to make with their blogs. The network is set up on buddypress - so everyone can create wordpress blogs (for free), and users will also be able to create backlinks to their own web pages. There are also group features.

I know this will catch on because I plan on catering to extreme newbies, well everyone trying to make money online.

The reason I don't have plan is because I have not figured out how to monetize it yet. I just know that the shoe fits, I like to help and lead.

Anyways you guys are more than welcome to set up a home base over there, and right now you can dominate the area while I continue to spruce up and clean out the cob webs. I just added the link in my signature just for you guys, if you are interested.

whoops I do not think I have enough posts for my signature to show up just check out my homepage on my profile
  • Good stuff, this thread. Subscribing to it now : )
    I'm a newbie too - Introduced myself at http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...-everyone.html

Dave, you said you spent $310.79 setting up a website. I hope that was due to paying someone to design it or some such and not hosting...
For all newbies; please realise you can get hosting for around $13US (I've heard you can get even cheaper but probably without some of the tools that you get when you pay more)

Anywho, I want to share who I get my domain names and hosting with, and yes, I have made them an affiliate ; )
I've been using them for years and I love how it's all done online, I love how cheap it is and I love all the tools in their 'C-panel'. Something like $12us to register a .com and $13US for a year's hosting.
    They are 3iX.org

Anywhoo, I hope to learn a lot from this thread as well as the whole forum.

Since I'm starting out, I'll share my plan so if I fall on my face or if I succeed, we newbies will all be able to see and learn from my ventures.

    TEH BASIC PLAN:
    (1) (actually I have 1 started already, so I'll be creating 4 new ones)
Ideas: * Diet/weight-loss * Innovation/Invention (I have already written a short e-book entitled 'The Secret to Innovation') * General Health and Lifestyle
    * The site I already have (superchlorophyll.com - recently expired so i just have to re-upload it) * Emplyment/Self-Emplyment.
-On each site I intend to provide free information and sell clickbank affiliate products related to the site.
    - Each site will help drive traffic to the others and to my blog.
    - Some, if not all will sell my own eBook or info-video.
    - Allow Adsense ads on the sites
    (2)
    - I understand this would be used to build an e-mail list.
    - I also plan to link my 5 websites to this blog.
    - I also plan to sell affilate products on this blog.
<This is what I'll need the most help with - I'm unfamiliar with using and managing an e-mail list - the whole

    (3)
(I have an eBook/essay type thing entitled 'The Secret to Innovation')
    - I could give this away for free for e-mail gathering
    - I could sell it...
    - It would link to my websites and blogg.

    (4) - E.g. How to Innovate video (from my eBook), or 'How to Play a Ranger in Age of Conan'.
    - Each video points people back to websites or blogg.

    (5)

Hi karen, welcome to the thread! Wow sounds like you have all the ingredients, and I wish you well with your project. Info overload can be a killer so watch out for that, lol. Good idea to thin out the email subs, as they are usually nothing but time wasters.

Don't be daunted by the "initials" hehehe - they are really quite easy to understand after a short time. I can understand you wanting to have control over your site, and wanting to do it yourself. I was exactly the same.

I notice you have a couple of posts here, so I will leave this one at that and respond to your others regarding their content.

Hi there "Capital N", lol. Welcome to the thread

Excellent news about your 30 subscribers, thats really cool! I would love to see your squeeze page, to see what you have done. I am sure others would also like this.

Good info Jon, and it all makes sense. These are 3 of the bst no cost platforms. Oh and BTW I will reply to your email later today. Sorry mate I was sidetracked for a bit, hehehe :p

Hi there Mr Expert! I am sure that $190 a month is $190 a month more than some people on this thread are making. How about sharing some of the tips you learned to create a daily income of the same amount

      Hi again Karen,

I realise this post is aimed at Jon and Mr Expert, but I would just like to butt in (as I do that so well, lol) and add my 2 cents. I can appreciate you wanting a professional looking site, partcularly if you already have the three platforms Jon mentioned above. All of what you have described is fairly easy to accomplish.

Do you have an understanding of basic html and/or site building software. If so you could use NVU or WYSIWYG5 for your site design. NVU is free and WYSIWYG is very cheap considering what it can do. I have and still do use both from time to time. There are also others available, and I will hunt some of the resources I have used over the years, to see if they may help.

A "blog" or "forum" would handle your site queries, as would a simple "F&Q" system or page. All of this is again, fairly easy to set up, particularly if your hosting account has cpanel with Fantastico installed. If you are not sure what these are, I can help give you a better understanding, and I am sure others can too.

The required "bells and whistles" you might need really depends on what you want your site to have attached. The size of the files you have to store on the server (Site) and the resources you want to use. The more you have and the bigger the files, the more bandwidth and disk space you will require. If you intend linking, streaming or hosting video or audio files, these take up a lot of space and your hosting account may need to have some resources that free of very cheap hosting packages don't allow for. Hostgator has a great reputation for their packages and service, and tey have everything you will ever need. Packages start at around $5 a month.

Hope this helps, and doesnt confuse.

    • Hi James,

I have a Squidoo account and benefits used to be that Google liked Squidoo. I have found many post by others,(not here) that says Google doesn't like Squidoo as much anymore but I still recieve good search rankings using Squidoo.

Another advantage is I find that once you get used to Squidoo, it is a bit more versitile and you have a few more options and features to choose from.
(This comparison is only between Squidoo and Blogger.com)
I don't know which blogging platform you use but I try to use all of them.

If you decide to use Squidoo, let me give you a hint on how to improve your lens ranking... join a group or two that has to do with your particular niche and keep your lens updated.

      Hope this Helps.

      Until Next Time.

  • Bryce, there definitely is. The money is in what skills you can bring to the table to increase the earnings of the site and/or change the revenue model. Also there will be disparities between marketplaces...

Karen - You sound like you're on the right path. Getting out of information overload and into 'action mode' is the way to go. Best thing to do is read some stuff, then set aside time for action.... even if you do it by setting a timer or alarm and laser focus for 2-3 hours.

    • Hi everyone

I think this might be my first post here - lost track of where I have been and where I have posted (forum-wise), so when I have finished I had better go back to the right thread and check whether I have said hello or not - someone mentioned information overload - definitely suffering from it here.

I bought into a program this last week, well two actually (Jonny Andrews) and I have to say I really, really like the way he says it like it is, and the help and advice he gives, but, there is just so much of it. I think I am beginning to understand the process and then read something else which completely throws me.

I am list-less (and listless), website-less, squeeze-less..... and on it goes. I have only ever "played around" with the likes of Facebook, Twitter etc. and am suffering very much from frustration with my own inabilities to grasp anything other than I need to build lists.

I intend to start life out here in cyberspace as an affiliate - full stop. Now what? I've read info saying you should only choose a program/product you are familiar with and other info saying you can basically choose anything you want to become involved in - there is plenty of stuff I am interested in but does that make me qualified to create a squeeze page promoting something I possibly don't have any first-hand experience of? Do I buy a domain name and create a website (I have a bit of experience of doing this) or do I do it via a blog - arghhhh?

I have very little cash to throw at any more things other than the real essentials such as an autoresponder (oh God, and there's another thing I just cannot get my head around - what on earth do you say in all these autoresponder messages).

As you can see - and I apologise for the lengthy whinge - I don't think I have a bl**dy clue as to what I am supposed to be doing, but I will be damned if it is going to beat me I have every intention of making a success of this but I just seemed to have reached a crossroads with no signs to point me in the right direction. I intend to have all my credit cards paid off much sooner than it will take at the present rate, and to buy some form of transport - even a pushbike sounds a luxury at the moment

      Am I a lost cause?

      Sue

  • OK, sorry folks - it's me again!

Now I have figured out the website bit, I have another question for our experienced members.

How do I give away a report or sell an ebook from my site. What I am asking is, how do my customers access these from my site? Where do I put the file for them to access it?

I know this is very basic but thank you for taking the time to read this.

    Regards

    Karen

p.s. Sue, good luck in your affiliate venture. I wish you every success. Keep us posted on your progress.

Sorry to keep using these but there is a plethora of info that Chris Farrell has about creating, uploading, downloading ETC. on you tube.
This one will explain (hopefully) what you are looking for.

  • Hi Karen

You are asking the very same question I need an answer to, re where the heck you put these free books - just looking at a squeeze page thing to get people to the site initially - and then what? lol Thank goodness for people like you and everyone else on here.

I don't seem to have a "thank you button" so I think you are right about the number of posts - I'm sure I will soon pass the required number, given the amount of times I will be shouting "help"

    • Hi Sue,

The 'thanks' button doesn't appear under YOUR posts - it appears under all the other posts. You just select the post of the person you wish to thank and click on the 'thanks' button under their post.

Have a good and productive day.

      Regards

      Karen
  • Thanks again Karen but nope, still can't see one - just "Quote", "Multiquote" and "Quick Reply". Going out in about an hour to do a morning's work for someone else - will give my poor old brain a chance to recover - crikey, if I'd studied this hard at school all those years ago, I would have got straight A's in every subject lol.

    Have a good day.

    • Hey there Sue, you are more than welcome my friend! OMG I can so totally relate to the "first coffee" thing, lol. My son used to stay away from me for the first hour of each morning, and he would warn his mates too when they stayed over, rofl! Man I loved those days.......

Take that well earned breather and decide how you are going to bring the internet to its knees

Hi Karen, all great questions and ones that I battled with for a long time. You know whats amazing..... is that if you ask 100 "self proclaimed gurus" that question, you will get 100 different answers! Then if you put all the answers together you may learn how to send an email

Anyway in regard to your query...... There are a couple of ways this can be done. If you are using an AR (Auto Responder) system, you can add a link to one of your follow up messages, or attach the file. If you add a link, the file you are offering will need to be hosted on your server or another hosting server online.

I have just redone my Scmwatcher site today, as I am lowering the price and getting ready to start the next version of the book. If you take a look at www.scamwatcher.info you will see that I offer a FREE sample of the product, via the pop up capture box. This is designed and provided through Aweber, so what happens is when a person fills in their details in that form, my Auto Responder will collect the data and send out an "opt in" email. The subscriber then confirms that subscription, and the autoresponder is programmed to then automatically send message 2, which is the Thankyou email, containing an attachment of the sample pdf ebook.

With the book itself, I have it hosted on my server in a protected directory. When a person pays for the book via paypal or clickbank, the payment system automatically returns the buyer to my thankyou page, where they see the "Download" button. This download button is nothing more than a graphic, and I have added a link to it, so that when it is clicked, it calls up the ebook from the server. The buyer then has the option to do whatever they want with the book, save it, print it, etc.

Karen this may sound complicated, but it isnt really. I will leave it at that for now, but be sure to shoot other questions through if you need to.

      Hey Sue,

Check out the reply to Karen above for details on your free books, etc. There are other options, but I didnt want to put too much information in there in one hit

  • We as newbies, have all gone through the mill trying to get the "code" that works.

One of the most overlooked areas in my humble opinion, because I struggle with this myself, is that with all the marketing and listbuilding and programs and on and on, one of the hardest to find details on the internet is, how to do certain thing..like do a search on How to rebrand an ebook and resell or give it away....hundresds of examples come up on how to brand an ebook you create, but very little if nothing on how to RE brand an ebook...I know this sound stupid to those that are proficient at rebranding, but seriously...If someone is new, and downloaded hundresd of ebooks, no one teaches or shows you the steps on how to rebrand and use them wisely. Some of the rebranders that come with the ebooks dont have any instructions, and difficult boxes in the form to fill out...

A complete ebook on how to brand, and rebrand and what software you need would be very helpful to new IM ers.
  • Hi Karen

Yes, it just appeared so must have been after 3-5 posts - thought I was going mad earlier lol

  • I've been following this thread for awhile; it's a refreshing break from the "dog-eat-dog" vibe that is often present in other places on WF.

I, too, have recently started my own membership site, and I'm very proud of my small but growing sub list.

Thanks, David, for starting this discussion.

p.s. maybe we need a nomenclature makeover? I've never liked the word "newbie"... and "noob" is overtly offensive. I'm sure many folks who are technically new to this forum have had entire CAREERS before they came here. (I was a long-suffering IT consultant, myself). May I suggest the word; "Novice", as a substitute?

Heck, I might even start new website around this niche: "N3 = Novice Not Noob"!

    • Hi Hassan,

I, too, am very grateful to everyone on this thread who have answered my very basic questions in a very professional manner - no patronising or smart mouth comments - just excellent very helpful answers!

I like the idea of being a 'Novice' rather than a Newbie. Sound much better but the tag won't apply to me soon... LOL

Good Luck with your Membership Site may it go from strength to strength!

  • Could you send Chris Farrell over to me in Menorca when you've finished with him Karen - my internet has been so slow today and his videos were taking toooooo long to load, and my brain hurts!

I thought I had a plan almost formulated, then got side-tracked yet a flippin gain and now back to confused. I have no spare cash at all at the moment, except for the autoresponder, if really necessary at this stage.

I decided (before I got side-tracked) that I would just go ahead and join the affiliate program of the program I bought into (as I do think it is very good and the guy who has created it is very down to earth).

    So plan was:

    1. Use squeeze page template provided (and adapted accordingly).
    2. Get autoresponder and set it up with emails provided.
    3. Decide on domain name, buy it, get hosting and upload squeeze page.
    THE END

Apart from posting on various forums, blogs etc. I have now hit a brick wall again and am not sure if the above is a total waste of time, or a move in the right direction. I don't have any list at the moment so the above is an attempt to at least start to acquire one, and to hopefully start the ball rolling re income generation.

Then I remember things such as "keyword research", "bio box" - what the hell is that?.

Thank God the wine is so cheap over here

  • Alright another newbie here who just found this thread tonight. So aside from the odd phone call or two and stopping to eat something, I've sat here and read through the entire thread. I was inspired all the way through it with ideas and what we could all accomplish working together.

Bryce, you're doing a wonderful job here as are all of you. I feel such a great sense of community in this thread. David, I'm like you and can relate to some of your posts. I've had amazing ideas all my life...getting them implemented is another thing. I think big too. I've made a couple of half-assed attempts at internet marketing in the past, but I'm to a point where I'm tired of trying. Its time to do.

My roommate (and very close friend)bought the profit lance course a few months back. We sat down and had a talk one night for awhile about really focusing and working on this. We had that conversation after we'd watched the movie "The Secret." If any of you haven't seen that, it will do wonders for your way of thinking.

So we've been studying for about three weeks now. We have one adsense site up that came with the course with some. Just with viral marketing, telling our friends about it and telling them what we were doing, we made $14 I know its inflated, but still encouraging to see SOMETHING in your acct.

I won't get too long winded here, but I will be sharing on this forum as often as I can. I think that this maybe the most valuable resource that I've found on the internet. David and Bryce, I know you guys are working on the lounge. Something you might want to consider is putting a chatroom on there. We're all sitting around banging away on the keyboard anyway. A chatroom would be a fantastic resource and I'm sure you all can see all the reasons why. This could turn into a community that could make us all wealthy and free and should be nurtured.

I'll probably be back posting tonight on something or another...I just want to say that its good to meet everyone and I look forward to getting to know all of you better and watch us all build our businesses together.

    • Hi Spacemonkee, and welcome to our little corner of the world I hope the thread did not give you any info overload, and didnt distract you from anything important

Thanks buddy, I appreciate it! Dave had an idea for a thread and now that thread has grown to 5 pages, and still we are atrracting new people (novices, lol) to the conversation. It is cool!! I can relate first hand to the "ideas syndrome" - I still suffer from it every day. In fact watch this space, because I am sick and tired of harbouring them. I am about to set up the "Think Tank" and everyone is invited

In fact I have been slack about communicating The Lounge, and I deserve a big smack on the ...... (wrist) for that! I have been very busy promoting a young musician from my home land, and have just completed the finishing touches on his 35th website/page, phew! Now I have some time to devote to my other business, this business. The chat room is an interesting idea, although from previous experience, there is usually issues with global time lines. However this can be overcome, and I would be happy to look at it as a means of effective communication. I will talk about this with Dave, and a couple of others.

Nice to meet u2 Justin, and again, Welcome!
  • Hi everyone

Not sure where the right place to post this is, so thought I would try here first.

After yet more time reading, watching, absorbing etc. I realised it was high time I actually started to do something constructive so off I jumped into Squidoo - arghhh

I've started my lens but then, after looking all over the help forums, FAQ etc. realised that I need to know some html coding in order to format stuff as I would like it to appear, and for it to work properly. It doesn't seem to even have the basic text editor which is available on here.

    Am I wrong?

If this is the case, I really don't have the time, or inclination if I am honest, to start learning all that stuff, on top of everything else I am trying to take on board.

I do have a bit of experience with Wordpress blogs - would this be the better route to go down? I need to add affiliate links, as well as links to a couple of websites I already have but when I look at other people's lenses they seem to be able to add all sorts of images, links etc.

Am I missing something (and the answer is more than likely yes)

Thank you, and sorry to constantly be so demanding of your help - I will return it just as soon as I can.

What exactly is it you need help on...what part of the lens?

Most of what I have done is write, copy and paste... but there has
been some html as I recall.

Here is one of the lenses I created.
After reviewing it the only thing I see in it is

  • Cheers Hasan, Im gonna try TW and report my findings here.
Always looking for new ways to get more traffic to my site.
  • Hi Jon

Thanks for your offer of help.

It is really basic stuff that I am stuck with - how can you change the font, colour, position etc. I've managed to make a couple of links to sites I already have "live" (eventually) but to be honest, I really don't want to have to spend the time researching all this html stuff, unless that is absolutely the only way to do it.

I have spent so much time the last 2 weeks learning, re-learning, watching, re-watching, getting more and more confused (information overload) that when I finally decide to take the plunge and do something, which I thought would be fairly simple, I discover that I now need to start learning basic html just to put something in bold, or change the colour/position etc.

At least Wordpress gives you a format box thing, like on here

Maybe I should just go and lie down with a good book for an hour or two and start again tomorrow lol - it is 8 p.m. here and I have been at it since 6.30 this morning

    • Sue,
Here's some stuff I got a while back...
see if this works for you...

How To Make A URL/Website Address "Linkable":

      This:
<a href="http://EzineArticles.com/">http://EzineArticles.com/</a> will create this: EzineArticles Submission - Submit Your Best Quality Original Articles For Massive Exposure, Ezine Publishers Get 25 Free Article Reprints

Just substitute your website address from the above code and now you know how to "link" up a website address. Some like to create anchor text links. *** () Here is the code to create links out of keywords:
<a href="http://EzineArticles.com/">Ezine Articles</a> will create this: Ezine Articles

One Note: Use anchor text links *sparingly* when submitting articles to directories as some have limitations on the number of times the same URL can be linked up. For example, with EzineArticles.com, you are only allowed to have one URL in a given article that is the same and your article could be rejected if you have two links to the same URL regardless as to whether you linked it up like the first and/or second example above.
How To Make Your Email Address "Linkable":

      This:
      <a href="mailto:youraddress@your-domain-name.tld">youraddress@your-domain-name.tld</a> will create this: youraddress@your-domain-name.tld

One Note: It is never a good idea to put your email address in your article because your email address will get harvested by spammers who use web email extractor bots to scour the Internet. Better to put a link to your contact information if you must.

      Here is some Basic HTML.

      How To Make Something BOLD:

      This:
<b>Make my words bold</b> will create this: Make my words bold
      How To Make Something ITALICS:

      This:
<i>Make my words italics</i> will create this: Make my words italics
      How To Make Something UNDERLINED:

      This:
<u>Make my words underlined</u> will create this: Make my words underlined
How To Make A Bullet Point List:

      This:
      <ul><li>First bullet</li><li>Second bullet</li><li>Third bullet</li></ul> will create this:
      • First bullet
      • Second bullet
      • Third bullet

How To Make A Numbered List:

      This:
      <ol><li>First point</li><li>Second point</li><li>Third point</li></ol> will create this:
      1. First point
      2. Second point
      3. Third point

Yes, you will need to have some basic knowledge....but...

  • Hi to all the people who have joined this thread since my last post : )

Just wanted to add a couple of points:
    (1) If you've read my plan (above) and are wondering what I'm up to - i have created a couple of sites already but am putting MY plans on the back-burner for a bit to follow a plan I bought here from ( )
It seems like a really solid and pretty simple plan which i really like the look/feel of, plus it has given me many new ideas along similar lines. I recommend it (it suits 'Novices' *grins at * because you don't have to have a lot of back ground and high-end IM knowledge).
So, I'll be doing Jeremy's plan and following slower up behind, with my own plans as stated earlier in this thread.

    (2) I notice a lot of people here who are not just 'Novices' to IM, but to websites in general (domain names, hosting, FTP etc).
I have been using a host called and they are very cheap and have all the C-Panel bits and pieces. I recommend them because they are so cheap. I have all my domain names through them and all my hosting too.

@ Jason aka - I have used (not sure these days but they started as a husband and wife team) and they do SEO and traffic generation. Worked for me a few years ago (back when i didn't follow through with my grand plans). Definately worth checking out.
  • Hi there veveryone.
I came across this thread and it's a great to see. I am very new to this whole IM scene myself. I have spent a fortune in the past though trying all the so called wealth generating systems out there and products guaranteeing you to be as good as they are. Maybe some success would come out of them if I had a mialing list. I do have a list but only 1 subscriber so far lol. (no it isn't myself)
Anyway if anyone wants to checkout my website it is TheVideoPack.com and yes I have used some teqniques on there to get websites up etc.
Take care guys, I lokk forward to reading your other posts.

    • Welcome to the thread Mark. I remember when I found this thread, I sat here and read the entire thread that night and then started posting on it. It's still my favorite out of all of them. Stick around and ask questions and we'll all bounce ideas around.

Marc, I think you're fine selling a product like that as long as you don't make outrageous claims that aren't true. We've all heard the saying before "fake it til you make it." Good luck!!!
      Justin
      • [1] reply
    • NO I have to add more cos the system tells me that the word "no" is too short a message, LOL. Although I agree with the concept of "fake it till you make it", I more strongly believe in "integrity" and "transparency" - In fact I often base my buying decisions on my judgement as to whether the seller has used the product and succeeded with it.
  • I think building your list is very important. That's what I'm starting to do now one year into this. I should not have taken so long to start.
    • [1] reply
    • Welcome, and it is never too late to start! I didnt have a list for a year either, and I would think a lot of other people are the same.
  • Hi Guys,

I notice a few people are talking about list building.

In a few weeks, a product I am using is going live. It's called ListCrew.

Basically, you put a piece of code on your site, and it pops up when somebody goes to any page the code is placed on. It advertises a number of peoples lists, and gives people the opportunity to subscribe.

Now..as you are part of the network, your newsletter will be shown on many other sites, giving you more exposure.

I posted earlier that I had had 25 subscribers in a week, that now upto 30. this thing isn't even moving at full pace yet, it's still at the beta testing stage and I'm really impressed with it!

It's an 'IM' product, so all subscribers will be targeted ones, which is exactly what you want.

If your wondering how much it is...it's free. When it goes live I'll help you get it setup if you need it.

I was talking to another newbie today, and we were interested in setting up a chatroom that we'll have running as much as we can and refreshing the link here when we need to. It might be some effort to get set up and before I go through figuring it all out, I wanted to see if there are some people out there who would be interested in having that resource available. Free of charge of course, just for us newbies!

Karen, you especially hit me up. I think I can help some with your technical problems and am more than willing to help nurse you though it all.

  • Hey everyone. Yet another newbie here. I've been a member of WF for some time now but haven't posted anything ...until now.

I guess I'll give a little bit of info about myself.
My real name it Colin. I don't have a product, but I've finally gotten off my butt and now one is in the works. I'm not new to the internet or anything and I even know a bit about marketing online. I've just new to the whole selling process. See, I run a quite successful forum (membership is free) so now I'm moving into the world of selling, not just marketing something free.

I have a good grasp of all the technical stuff, so please don't hesitate to ask me any techy questions. Web stuff, FTP, Wordpress blogs, autoresponders, social media, etc. And especially if you happen to use phpBB3 to run a forum (or plan to create an online community), I'd LOVE to help you out.

I really look forward to meeting you all and watching you succeed in the world of internet marketing.

    ------------------------------------------

@spacemonkee2010: Justin, I love the idea and I'd really love to be a part of the group. The main reason is that I just need someone to kick me to keep me moving. Most of the people I'm around daily just don't understand what I do and what I plan to do with internet marketing. To be able to talk to people with similar interests and be able to encourage each other would be a HUGE relief for me.

    • That was my thinking too. It is too easy to be distracted by people around you who just don't understand the potential that we have if we can focus on what we truly want to achieve. By that I mean most people in our lives - not this forum

lol My names Mark. I assume you got Colin from Twitter, he's my Dad/business partner. Close though. Must be a good name.
      • [1] reply
  • Hey Colin, great to have you here. I think you're really a great fit for this forum. You've got some people who are learning a good bit about the selling side, and one of the biggest obstacles they face is tech stuff. Look for lots of thank you's here if you're willing.

I'm seriously wanting to set up a free chatroom somewhere the I can link to from this thread. We're all sitting around hacking away on a keyboard anyway, so if we run into a bump, or just want to bounce something off of somebody, there's a chance there would be somebody there to talk to.

Anyway, I know I'm sitting around working on a all kinds of things, so for right now, I'm on here all the time. Hope to talk to you soon, I'm on skype and yahoo as spacemonkee2010.
    Later,
    Justin
  • Thanks Justin! It's great to meet you. I don't have Yahoo but I'll add you in Skype. Please let me know when you get that chatroom up and running cuz I'll be there.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to meeting more newbies and helping out along the way.

  • Great job on the chatroom Hasan! Even if its simple, its this kind of action that's going to push us all over the proverbial hump. I'm in there now and will hang out for awhile if anybody else wants to jump in there.

  • Here is something that may help some of you organise your daily internet activities.
If you don't already have Mozilla Firefox I highly recommend you get it. It's a free browser and runs much faster than Microsft's Internet Explorer.
Other than the speed element there are customization options that for me save me time each and every day online.
Now i'm sure you all know what tabs are but just incase...
Tabs are like having all your seperate internet windows open but all in one place where you can jump from one to the other. By having tabs you also reduce the power needed that several of the same application such as Internet explorer of Firefox would need. Thus making your machine run smoother and faster.

The main benefit however of using Firefox is that you can get it to remeber all your tabs you have opened for the next time you open Firefox back up to save tons of time. Not only this but you can have several profiles too. This means you can have one with your personal bits such as facebook and hotmail etc, and another with err facebook and hotmail lol aswell as WF of course and twitter and whatever else you want saved.

Once you have firefox downloaded and installed. (google it)
You need to setup you pages in your tabs. (if you have IE i believe you can transfer your setting automatically if you want)
Firstly type in (or copy and paste) to the run command on your computer the following.........
    firefox.exe -ProfileManager
Then setup your profiles. You can add as many as you like and all can be customized to have their own location for downloaded files.
Then go to TOOLS then OPTIONS then on the MAIN tab at the top is says... STARTUP and below it WHEN FIREFOX STARTS: then choose remember windows and tabs.

    Voila!!
    Hope that helps someone!

    Take care!
    Mark
    • [1] reply
    • Another helpful tip for people wanting to use FF Mark. Cool! Personally I dont like the way FF displays some pages, but I guess I am a creature of habit, and IE is my preferred browser. That is not to say that I can't be convinced to change, LOL. Maybe I will take a closer look at this from a speed and flexibility angle. Thanks
  • I'm hanging around the chatroom if anyone is around.
  • HI Everyone.

I can't believe how much this thread has taken off! Well done to everyone who has joined in and contributed, It's good that everyone can help eachother.

I've decided that I don't like the word NEWBIE anymore

    And here's why.....

It is something that you can hide behind...some people never move away from it, and it seriously harms your chances to progress with your business.

I got my first website on 17th Feb (I think). That's when I took the plunge. We are now 4 months later and I have made over $2000 online. I have reinvested every penny back into my business. If I can make $2000 from nothing, then what can I make from $2000?

I still work full time, so this has all been done in evenings and at weekend. I'm planning to quit my job in 6 months. I have all my goals written down, and they are on the back of my door! i see them every day - and i WILL achieve every single one of them this next 12 months. (One of them is to make $100k).

I know people have excuses...and I want you to get them all out here on this thread. Tell me whats holding you back and I'll try and give you a way to combat it.

I've had all the excuses...information overload, no one will listen to me, i can't design a website etc. Everyone does it...but it seriously restricts your mind!

I'm going to talk to Bryce soon and try and sort something out for us all, there is so much information here on the WF, sometimes too much! - (Bryce just read my mind!)

Hopefully we can get the information organised in a way that it will be easy to use, and follow.

Anyway, I'm pretty accessible if anyone wants to chat, I'm n ot great on my PM's on here, I tend to get quite a few! But add me up on Skype, i'm on there quite often!

    Thanks everyone!

    Dave

    • Well done on your success thus far. I know with an attitude as positive and driven as the one you have, you will succeed without a shadow of a doubt. Congratz!
    • Hey Dave,

Fantastic success story! I love to hear about success!
The more motivation, the better I say, and Dave and Bryce, you guys are surely the motivators.

The determination to never give up is what separates us from the 95% that give up after a short period.

      My Quote:

has been with me for a long time now and I don't intend to FAIL!

Great job man and keep it up!
      • [1] reply
  • Just had an idea. Don't know how good it is. I will let you guys decide that.
I am sort of cutting myself out of this simply becase I do not have a mailing list but I was thinking for the people on this thread that do have a list even if it is small, maybe everyone could combine their lists together and do the same with any similar products whether ebooks, videos, software etc. Then it would be a case of heads together and put into practise all marketing tequniques, free ebooks, blogs, twitter, etc and anything else for promotion with the end result being some sort of great value bumper package that everyone takes their cut from the sales? Obviosly quite a bit of organization would be required but it could work out quite well maybe. Anyone have any thoughts on something like that. Obviously like I said although I suggested it it is not intended to help me as I do not have a list but for anyone who has it could possibly workout?

    • The same sort of cencept is sometimes called a "Giveaway". In fact I just got wind of one coming up, but you are right. There is always a clever way of packaging any number of things, for everyones (including the recipient) benefit. There will be a similar idea on the forum soon! - Well done

  • Hi, there are so many new get rich plans that flood our newbie mailboxes, I have had to learn also to put my credit card away, and try and focus on just getting a list going, and making a decision on what niche to at least to start, to focus on, after looking at your homepage, I see you also like the IM niche focusing on newbie start ups.

Id love to hook up with someone in a JV project, especialy one that has this same focus as above. Id love to create and promote a membership site geared towards a specific amount of time, not a $27 a month site that they eventualy just quit paying for....like I have and Im sure from reading what you have said...you also have.

I have avoided creating a generic website and instead have been using affiliate sites, in conjunction with my autoresponder, for some revenue and list building..

Would love to toss around some ideas with someone with similar interests, if interested in chatting about it, let me know, if nothing else, it will be nice to make new friends...

    • Sorry mate. Missed ya by about an hour. Went to be at 4am.
  • Hey everybody. I hope you're all doing great. I'm loving the energy on this thread and am very happy that some of you are working on getting spin off projects going like the chatroom that Hasan set up and the lounge that Bryce has set up. So kudos to you both.
I think that one of the biggest obstacles that we face as IM NOVICES is a lack of true support. Those who claim to want to support us usually just want money. People in our everyday lives think we're a little kooky and online relationships can be very valuable. I have no doubt that working together we can figure this out and be on our way in no time.
I love some of the quotes too. Especially the one about live your for a few years...can't remember the rest but got the message and its great.
Keep up the good work everybody, I'll be around most of the day if anybody's got something they want to chat about.

    • It all depends on how you go about getting yourself noticed. You need to be noticed through possitivity and not for being a spammer. Try contributing to a conversation rather than purely for your own gain by advertising your product or affiliate product. You posted the same post 3 times in this 1 forum. That to me shows a little desperation rather than someone who believes in his endevour. Just my 2 cents.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi Mike! thats cool, I hope I can get some really interesting material in there, but please treat is as your own! Let someone know if you would like to see something specific.

I have read the articles you sent through, and they are very good. If you are interested I will PM you with the subject matter for one of the blogs, and see how you go with it.

I willl send the info through and you can let me know if you are not interested. Thanks again Mike.

Hi Kessro, and welcome! Yes I remember those days, and can tell you that with patience and commitment they will not last long. Autoresponders are a personal preference, and I use Aweber. Most hosting accounts come with cPanel which has its own (albeit a little more complicated) autoresponder system, and there is also getresponse. There are others and some come with a 30 day trial.

Hang around the forum and check back for more information. Maybe tell us a little about what you are wanting to do online.

Hi Justin, checked out the site and using IE7 the page was out of alignment. The adsense was sitting under the content box. I like the subject matter, something all of us are considering these days! Good start my friend. The banner clicked through to the affiliate package okay, but until I clicked on the banner there was no "call to action" indicating that I should in fact click on the image.

When I went to the affiliate site to check out the product, I was surprised to see an error on the page in the top few lines, and it is these errors that are usually an indicator for me as to the sellers level of commitment to making sure everything is as good as it can be. The error is a simple one, but has an effect. It is here.......

"You can build your own solar panels, saving off retail price?"

Sorry about the picky little things, but hey - thats me I guess, lol. Hope this helps!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Thanks for the tips Bryce. I noticed the adsense down at the bottom when I was up at my parents showing it them. Funny stuff right there. I was pretty sure I had put some adsense on there, but thought I might have messed something up.
I'll be working on it tonight and tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that... I've got some really good tips from you guys on this and am very grateful for them. I'll have this thing like I want it in no time. Once again thanks for checking it out and giving me some tips with it. Everybody stay at it and we'll get there.

  • Hi everyone

Having been following this thread since day 1, when Dave posted his money making experiences and difficulties to start this conversation, I could say this is the place that every internet marketer novice should start with. Lots of idiot-proof information from all over the world with only 1 goal, to help each other to make money online!

Well, I finally decided to post my introduction, my nerves were jumping all around my body since this is my first post here and English is not my first language. Hopefully you guys can understand my limited English Just want to quickly join you guys in the new forum. More introduction on what I am doing now later.

    Stick together team!

I dont know about this "Limited English" thing, I have seen worse from professors, hahaha. Good to see you in the new forum too my friend, I will be heading over there very soon to do some housework :p

Dont be nervous, we all started sometime and at the same place as you, so sit back, relax, take a load off, and enjoy the journey!
  • Welcome to the novice thread. You have nothing to be embarassed about at all. Your English is very good. I haven't went to look, but tell us where you're from if you would. Stay on this thread as its a good one. Come over to the chatroom too!

    • Thanks for the warm welcome ejmjs and Justin, and thanks for the encouragement. I am from Indonesia and now staying in Sydney. Maybe you find not many Indonesians following and posting to this thread, as we're running behind in terms of IM and online income stuff.

I will definitely stay around on this thread, I need to learn more and more on what you guys do to build a successful online business.

Justin, unfortunately I can't join chatroom, maybe my office block such an access to 3rd party chat .. I will try it again later in the evening after work (it's 1.17 PM now in Sydney). Look forward to join you guys!
  • Hey everyone, I had a few thoughts tonight that i wanted to share with the thread. I was over in the chatroom with Hasan and Mark (ejmjs is Mark) and it was awesome. We got to know each other better and shared some ideas and reviewed each others sites. We also talked about the amazing energy that is building on this thread.

I think there are still a lot of people that are viewing this thread and not posting too much. To those folks I just want to say that you're missing one of those absolutely amazing opportunities. A group is building here that we don't see popping up everyday. You've seen some of the great feedback that I've got on my site and it will make me more successful. You have people who are willing to put some time into checking out what you're doing and give you advice.

And by you throwing out questions on this board, everybody gets to see the question and the answer and can use that. I am by no means trying to get on anybody's case but I've tried this a time or two and possibly the biggest element that I was missing was support. There's a real opportunity here. So post what you're working on, go over to the Novice Nation and the chatroom that Hasan set up.

Action is the only way that we're going to make this happen, so jump on it. Don't be embarassed to ask questions. We've got to ask questions to learn. I want to see us have a small network of internet millionaires here that can get together in jv's and make $100,000 in a week with a project. Its possible. Come on folks take advantage of this resource...these don't come around every day.

In the spirit of practicing what I preach, I'm looking to drive some traffic to my site with adwords. Does anybody have any tips or ideas about getting coupons for free adwords credits. I've seen a couple of places out there to do this, but figured I'd try to get some input first. Might as well get as much as we can for free huh?

    Happiness to everyone,
    Justin

    • Hey Justin, cool about you guys getting more aquainted in the chat room! I have been there a couple of times, and nobody was home , hehehe - but hey the day is young! I know I will make it there when others are there, one day soon.

You are doing a great job encouraging people and motivating the troops, I applaud you for that. I agree there are a lot more people watching this thread than those that post, you just need to look at the numbers I think we are heading to almost 4000 views now, and considering how long it has been up, well that isnt too bad is it?! This "loitering" (as I like to term it) is what fueled the idea for Novice Nation.

So yes I agree, If there are people that are reading this thread, who are genuinely in need of support and assistance, dont be afraid to leap in, introduce yourself, and get involved. Justin is right, these types of things don't come around every day!

  • @ jondavidson ~ I will certaintly head over to Novice Nation & see if you've posted any juicy details there...

  • Hey everyone! I hope you're all well and had a productive day. I have worked hard today in my first video endeavor and am proud to say that no matter how ugly it might look, our first foray into video marketing is pretty inspiring. We think that we've hit on something here and will share all that we can on our way.

Please go check out The Declaration on youtube and see what it is all about. We would certainly appreciate a comment or two to get the comments flowing a little bit more. You can access it by clicking >>>here<<<.

Jon, I saw your post and at this point, I don't have a list at all. I'm going to implement a plan to start building one this week. In the meantime, I'm an idea machine and would love to help you come up with ways to get this thing off the ground. I'm on skype and yahoo as spacemonkee2010. Lets talk.

The video that we've posted is called The Declaration. It started by us writing down a goal. We decided that we wanted something stronger than a goal however. We wanted a definite place that we wanted to go. Thus was born The Declaration.

Set yourself a goal. If you're procrastinating right now, then stop and pick up a pen and paper and decide what it would take for you to at least be comfortable. By writing this down you fire different sections of the brain which make you remember it more. Set yourself a date.

Brad and I advertised that we would would have a series pilot up tonight. Had we not done that, we probably would not have had it done today. Setting yourself goals is such a major key to achieving success that is CANT be under-stated. Write it down folks, and then figure out how to do it. You have help right here, ready to help.

I apologize for being so long winded, but we had a really good day here at The Marketing Madmen House and have been celebrating a good bit (we had some really good things happen tonight) and I'm feeling sentimental about it all. Go watch our video and see what its about. This is going to be fun!!!!!!!

    • Hi Justin,

Great news my friend, and another inspiring message to all! I will be heading over to YT now, to check out this video, and will leave a comment there.

Well done, I can almost feel the adrenalin pumping

    • Right on Brad & Justin!

Cool video and I just love the positive attitude! Yeah... My Motto sticks out in that one... (LOL) "Failure is NOT An Option"

To critique a bit if I may:
Audio... try to get the levels around the same. Do you guys have a mixer of any kind?
There are some free trial audio mixers for MP3/WAV but not sure about how it all work on YT. Haven't got to this point but am not far behind in promoting my project.

Justin, I will be in touch with you in the near future and utilize "La Machine" in building ideas. It all helps here and on the Novice program.

That's what it's all about ...helping each of us to success....once again...I see the motivation flowing! Congrats Guys on your video and your Declaration! Never Give Up!

      Until Later.
  • Hi everyone,
I am fairly new to WF and found this thread so presume I qualify!

Having recently closed an offline business due to the recession I am now pursuing Internet Marketing full time. I have purchased a few good products including Mass Control from Frank Kern and am ploughing through that now.

I have also built a couple of blogs and am just finishing a product for a WSO here very soon based on another business I ran online up until last xmas.

I am very interested in helping any way I can, my main skills being sales both offline and online with over 30 years experience!

I will actively join in here and have joined Novice Nation too.

Hope to speak to all of you soon and thank everyone for some great information here already.

    Cheers Keith

    • Hello Keith and welcome to the thread!

Sorry about your offline business mate, I know the recession is hurting a lot of people in a lot of countries, and we are all on shaky ground I think. Ahhhh but not here, well at least as long as we have access to power

Your experience sounds great, having been in sales most of my life in one capacity or another, it is a skill set than crosses many boundaries to provide some level of security. I am sure we can all benefit from whatever you decide to contribute.

Welcom to NN as well, I have signed you in over there so you are good to go whenever you feel like it.

    • Hey, gang ~ I just wanted to share some good news:

Google updated their servers today, and my Amazon store got a Page Rank bump from 0 to 2 overnight! Considering that I purchased the domain name 6 1/2 weeks ago, and the e-commerce site didn't even get indexed until May 22nd, I'm pretty stoked!

Now I know, PR has no direct correlation to SERP's or how much targeted traffic I get... but it does show the rest of the world how "authoritative" Google deems your site to be. Page Rank helps build your brand. So, if I can go from unknown to PR2 in 33 days, just wait til I've had 3 or 6 months to promote!

This IM business can be a lonely exercise sometimes. I'll confess, after creating 60+ pages of rich multimedia content for my website, and toiling away for HUNDREDS OF HOURS on html, css, and php, and then it seemed like the first few visitors just didn't get what I was offering, well, I got frustrated and a little burned-out.

This small recognition from Google was just the lift I needed. In fact, I'm so jazzed, I think I'll do some more midnight backlinking :p

      If you're curious, here's my Flash-happy PR2 super-site in the making (lol)

      The Snowball Affiliates Pro Shop

I want to thank everyone here for the positive feedback in general, and remind you that hard work has it rewards ~ so keep on keepin' on!

  • One small step forward for mankind - well me anyway

After suffering day after day of information overload, but still continuing to read and learn, I finally did something constructive 2 days ago. I think I mentioned on another post somewhere that I already have 3 websites, all 3 are completely different from each other. One advertises local businesses in a small area of the UK (and generates a small income), another has so far just been "a fun thing to do" - making personalised chocolate bar wrappers (it's a long story how that came about) and the final one was created just to promote my husband's pool cleaning business here in Menorca.

Anyway, I decided affiliate marketing is the way for me to go initially and contacted a travel company to see if I could add an affiliate link on my Menorca site and they emailed me back yesterday and said they would like to have a link on my site and would pay me £20 a month to do so - talk about suprised Just need to get the logo and wording they want to use.

Ok, I know it's not alot of money in the grand scheme of things but it has given me a huge buzz, particularly as it was the result of just one email. I had never looked at my website as an income generator, or even considered it - now though, I can see there are all sorts of possibilities.

Just thought I would share my bit of good news, but must go now - I can hear the coffee shouting
    • [2] replies
    • Hey Sue! Pull out another mug and I'll have one with you (a coffee that is ) That is FANTASTIC news about the link for the travel agansy! You are on your way to big things. 20pound is 20pound, and it all mounts up. Build up your testimonials too, when they have been linking for a while, and maybe even see if they will offer a 2% or 5% discount to any customers that come from your site. Keep track of records and traffic that you send them, and this is all good for any future business. Well done Sue, congrats!

    • Wow, Great stuff Sue,

Just think of the possibilities now - this month £20 - this time next year Who knows... we could all be coming to you for advice.
      Brilliant News. Well done!

  • Thanks Bryce - it was certainly the boost I needed. I had no intention of giving up anyway but one of the biggest problems I have with putting anything into action is FEAR

    Fear of what? Fear of:
    • Choosing the wrong product/program to promote
    • Failing with whichever I go with
    • Writing cr*p articles that no-one wants to read (I can't afford for someone else to do them at the moment).
    • Actually doing something
I'm sure there are many more things I could list but the subject of fear has been brought up in quite a number of threads on here, and in articles I have read. The more I read about it, the more I realised I was (and still am to a degree) suffering very much from it and that it stops me from taking any action.

Fortunately, I am starting to turn my thinking around and getting things more in perspective - it's a bit like learning to drive (only not so dangerous ). There is no way you could get into a car for the very first time and drive off to the shops - you would be pretty unlikely to even get out of the driveway. How many times did I stall the car, crash the gears, hit the kerb, when learning to drive? Lots, but I persevered and eventually passed my test - not as quickly as some, and more quickly than others. It didn't matter - I got there in the end. There were times when I felt like giving up (after failing my test for the 3rd time) - what did I do - changed my instructor - the first one used to shout at me a lot and then gave me sweets to say sorry. The new instructor told me that intelligent people tend to fail their tests more (what a little love he was) and my confidence was instantly renewed. The biggest thing he did was change my mindset - up until that point I had always taken my driving test with the thought that "I will probably fail", "I'm never going to pass" etc. etc. I approached my fourth and final test in a completely different way - I knew I could drive, and drive well, and instead of worrying what the examiner was thinking, I just concentrated on what I was doing, and passed. Mind you I was a quivering wreck when he told me I had passed

Crikey, didn't intend to write yet another war and peace, just wanted to give my thoughts on what a difference actually doing something makes. It doesn't matter how big or small that first step is, once you actually get engrossed in doing something/producing something, you forget about all the obstacles you put in your way, how many times you fall over etc. - does that make sense:confused:

Another coffee I think - no wonder I can't sleep at night

    • Hi Sue,

Let me add a thought and a couple of quotes on fear if I might.
Everyone goes through it and it's the fear of the unknown is what really has us bugged...will we be successful at what we do? These types of thoughts always plague us...but. set your mind at ease, here is something to ponder on fear and failure:

"If you don't try, you won't know"
"If you think you failed, you didn't because you succeeded at learning"

"You always pass failure on the way to success"...Mickey Rooney

"Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less"....Marie Curie

Does anyone here have experience building forums and associated communities? Im in the travel niche, and at this stage not looking to make money, its more about building a big enough community so there is constant discussion

Yeh i sold my first major link the other day. I was contacted by a site that sells hotel rooms and they offered $40 for a link on my site for a year. The price was a lot more than i expected, and in hindsight i probably should have asked for a small comission also.

My site is young however and im just trying to build a comminity at this stage rather than worry about profits.

Any ideas for community building/traffic generation? (aside from the usual: social networks, articles etc etc)
  • My, my, my hasn't it been mighty quiet on the thread today. I'm guessing that means that a lot of work is getting done out there? Very good. We've been getting a lot done here as well.

It feels like we've gotten to a place where we understand enough to know what it is that we need to go learn and are doing that. It seems that that's helping us pick up momentum. So if anyone out there is suffering from information overload, look for small victories and let them build on each other to create momentum.

Find someone to talk to about all this as well. I have my roommate Brad and we exchange ideas all the time. If you don't have anybody personal in your life like that, then find someone online to hook up with and talk to. Having someone to share ideas with a huge boost and will make your trip more enjoyable and successful.

With that being said, I would like to pose a specific question to the group regarding video online. I could go through tons of legal research, but it'd take me forever to still not have a true answer. So here it is.

Can I take several different videos from youtube...cut them up...and make my own video to put on a website.

I know...I should have read the Terms, but like I said, i could sift through that for hours and still not know whether I could or couldn't.

Thanks for any help, and if you're feeling bad about things and frustrated, go take a break where there's not distractions and calm down and take time to process all that you've been through and the information you've absorbed.
Good luck everybody and have a great weekend!
    Justin
    • [1] reply
    • Well the quiet may be due to the learning, or the fact that in this part of the world it is coming to the end of Saturday, and between housework, kids, music and MJ passing away, there is little time for anything else. It may also be that people have started to follow some very good advice in "taking a break" from it all when we need to and coming back again more rejuvinated, and fresh.

Either way, I am doing a bit of everything and am soon to be heading over to NN to tidy up there

If you would like to check it out visit Novice Nation.

If you would like to join, please use the same username as you are using here. There are many forums on the board, some of which cant be seen until you register, but over time we intend to combine all resources we can, so that everyone there has an equal chance of success online. • Hi ecubeachboy,

Welcome to the thread! Well I think you will find after reading the posts in this thread alone, most people start where you are at right now. The trick is to focus, and not get involved in too many things in the beginning. Information overload can hurt more than you know.

I am sure if you stick to cheking back here regularly you will be able to get the help you need. From this thread and the people who have contributed, we have established Novice Nation (refer to my post above) where you can join and particpate in many ways.

Again, welcome and I look forward to seeing you around as often as you feel you need to. We are all here to help each other
    • Hi, ecubeachboy.

You will find just about everything worth knowing within this great forum.

Evryone makes mistakes in at the start, my tip would be to work smart and not as others say, let yourself get hurt with Info Overload.

We often find ourselves at the foot of a mountain looking up! Read as much as you can and take the best bits, make notes they are always useful. There is a lot of free stuff available where, a lot of the hard work has been done for you.

You could consider what aspect of IM really interests you, people are not so keen to grab the credit card and spend these days. CJ is a good place though, a lot of the clients approve affiliates manually, this means you need to have a credible web site that should relate to the product in some way. Always try to make what you do relevant..i.e. Don't advertise car parts on a music site for example. Try neverblue.com for CPA Offers.

If your putting up a web site and unless your promoting with PPC then, ensure it has value and good content for your visitors, this way they will keep comming back and your bsuiness will be more sustainable in the longer term. Email capture is well worth while, you will build again long term relationships provided, your sending out useful information, gain the trust of your readers.

Above all, research, test research. Advertising on adwords can empty your wallet faster than anything be careful.

      Good luck!
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

  • Wow , what a great thread . So this is my first post after lurking for a while . Have many ideas / projects going now . This thread is a great idea and will hopefully keep going strong .
  • Hey Jerry, and all of the rest of you guys. Welcome to the thread Jerry. It really is a great bunch of people on here. I don't know how in the hell Bryce keeps up with all that he does.

Bryce if you could sell your system for getting so much done, we'd all be wealthy very soon. I mean really. I try to get on here and post often, but Bryce is a machine.

Jerry, the biggest thing we've talked about on here which you may or may not have seen is information overload and how to deal with it. My partner Brad and I felt that for a couple of weeks or better after we got started. All you can really do is keep trying to learn it, and eventually a few things start clicking into place. Take a little time to study and then go try to apply what you've read.

This isn't necessarily easy, but if you stay at it and get it set up it'll pay dividends down the road. We made a sale last night while we were asleep. That is what you can look forward to if you stay with it. Best of luck and by all means, ask questions. Feel free to IM me and I'll do everything I can.
    Justin
  • Hey all! I hope everybody's doing good today and getting it done. We've got a couple of sales now and have the site tweaked to almost where we want it to be (are we ever really there?). We're mostly driving traffic from adwords campaigns, and are doing horribly with SEO. The site we're pushing the hardest isn't even indexed due to some kind of problem Google had. Anyway, I'm wondering what some of the best resources have been for some of you guys (and gals)in this category.

If anyone's willing to discuss a little bit, all my IM info is in my signature, our just some recommended reading would be great too.

One of the quotes that I've loved the most from this thread has been:

Work for a few years like most people won't so you can live the rest of your life like most people can't.

I keep that in my mind all the time. Take care all and best of luck.

You all seem to be a great bunch of guys. I'll try and tell you where I am in this process and get your advice on what I should do.My wife and I started a website back in march. We had to learn everything from scratch and we have put a lot of hard work into it.It's really my wives site and it's not a niche site. We are both frustrated because we may have done every thing wrong. Now I'm confused on how you lay out a site for IM.We both want to help people find quality products that meet their needs and make a living doing it.Here are my questions. Does the site have too many topics? Are we doing the sales page wrong? Is the site laid out wrong? Should we start over?
I hate to ask for so much of your time but I really don't know what to do next. All advice will be greatly appreciated
Thanks so much for your help

    • Hi Jerry,
Cool site, I like the simplicity and freshness of the theme, and it isnt too busy which is cool! (Busy meaning lots of flash bells and whistles) To try and anser your queries for now, first of all I dont a "blog" can have too many topics. Maybe a static site or a forum, but a blog is meant to be a place packed full og useful information, and I think you are achieving that. WP (Wordpress) is such a great platform to work with because of its flexibity and I think you have done well with it.

I am not sure what you are referring to when you say "Sales Page" but I am assuming for the purpose of this post that it is the page with "Overstock.com" listed as a supplier. I think this page is okay, except maybe I would tone down the bold company name everywhere in the article. Maybe have some banner ads of theirs, (I am again assuming that you are an affiliate) and place them strategically on other pages as well.

All in all I think this site is definately worth keeping, and with ongoing maintenance, additional content, etc - it could turn into something really cool. It deals with many issues that affect not only women, but men as well.

What exactly do you find you dont like about the site as it is?

      Hope this helps a little
      • [2] replies
  • Hey Jerry, I think the site looks great. However, even after Bryce's mentioning the overstock page...I still can't find it. The way it looks to me, you've got a lot of truly great material, but its not being properly monetized. Assuming that either you or your wife wrote all of this material, perhaps you can find a way to weave in some products into your writing here and there with an explanation about how they can genuinely make their lives better.

At the very least, consider an adsense campaign. You have enough great material on here that you should be able to generate some following. Maybe even starting an email campaign. I'm not sure if this helps or not, but that's the biggest thing I see. Monetize all your efforts.
    Justin
  • Alright Warriors, we're seriously freaking out over here at the house. Since Monday, according to Google, we've had six conversions with our affiliate product. Clickbank has only paid us for two of them.

We understand about the "last cookie" rule and that the last aff site the customer sees before they buy is who gets credit. We also understand that our links need to be cloaked so as not to get ripped off by some means which we don't quite understand. Is it normal to have so many conversions that don't actually convert? I mean, we've got a good conversion rate, but our conversion rate is getting reduced by 1/3.

Please help, we're spending money with an active adwords campaign with a good website and just need to know if this is just the way it works, or if we're getting ripped off. Hasan was kind enough to send me a link to some free cloaking software, but that's giving us a headache too.

Thanks in advance for you help.
    Justin
    • [1] reply
    • Hey, Justin ~

Sorry to hear about your conversion troubles. I have already stated elsewhere my personal reservations about ClickBank; a quick search of other threads on the WF will show that I'm far from alone. Tracking is a CHRONIC problem when dealing with them.

However, I am not a CB expert. That title probably belongs to Harvey Segal. He is a veteran of this forum; he also was on CB's Advisory Board, maybe he still is.

He has a forum specifically for CB affiliates, and a free guide called "ClickBank for Newbies". If you want a definitve answer, start with him. Do a Google search on his name and you'll find all the links.

If you're really in a jam, you could also try sending him a PM. He might respond, if you ask him really nicely. Just understand that CB is his BUSINESS; don't expect him to spoon feed you for free.

I hope you get everything worked out.

      ~ hasan
  • Hi Jerry,

Looked at your blog looks good!

Do you have an adsense account?

There is a plug in called adsense now- from your dashboard you can install it from it's zip file or search it out. This allows you to put adsense ads in your posts. You choose the position suchas right-bottom-centred

You can also use the same program to copy and paste code from affilate offers that is if you dont want adsense.

You can also put affiliate code in your side bar.

Then it is a question of promotion to get traffic this is always the hard part even if you have a fantastic site.

There are a lot of good free promotion tools available!

Good Luck and just ask there is a lot of good help here.

    Gordon.
  • The money is in the list and back end.
  • Thank you both Justin and Sue
We appreciate you taking the time to look at the site and giving us feed back. I wish I could help you Justin but I can't. I wish I had something to contribute to this group because you all help so much.

This is Christine and I too would like to thank both Justin and Sue for taking a look at the site and for your helpful comments and suggestions.

@Justin- We are really trying to learn the best monetization techniques to use in our posts (I do write most of them, although Jerry also contributes with ideas, keyword research and some of the articles) You have some great suggestions and we are trying to learn all we can each day. We will shoot for an email following sometime in the future but we are not sure that we are ready for that just yet.

@Sue- thanks for your kind words. As this group says it's all about newbies sticking together and we will try to help where we can. You hang in there too.

    Thanks again.

I can understand that you want to add some graphics and images, and that is cool. I am a fan of this also. If you need any help adding such things yell out.

Overall you have put together a very nice looking site with (as has been mentioned) lots of good material. Are you sending these artcles off to directories when you do them?
  • Thanks Bryce, nice to meet you too.
Yes, I have submitted articles to directories (ezine mainly, which has actually been a good experience) We do get some traffic from this which is helpful.

I definitely will seek out the help with the pictures and graphics, but I'll try not to yell too loud .

    Thanks again,

  • Very Very interesting post. I am a new newbie who is looking to start something, no anything online. Thanks guys for this information. Any help or assistance would be appreciated.
  • Thanks guys for all the support. I think we've got it a little better figured out about the conversions converting to clickbank sales. That doesn't really mean that I like it, but its there nonetheless. We've learned great deal over the past week or two and are learning more every day by DOING!

Londonguy, welcome. Feel free to elaborate a little more about what you're interested in and what you have studied in the past.

We've just found a page on the internet that outs our vendor as a fraud. It was quite disheartening to read, but its there. We're bummed about it, but not too bad, as the knowledge we've learned through promoting it has been great. Hasan, we got the cloaking figured out too by the way.

In the spirit of getting back on the horse once you get bucked off we're reassessing a little bit over the weekend and maybe getting some things in place to start anew. Anyway, just wanted to give updates and say that we're really proud of everybody here for sticking with this and jumping on board. There is A LOT happening over on NN and I think we'll be implementing some things from over there in our new plan. Jump in and get involved.
    Justin
    Think Big!
  • Hey Cassie, a conversion is simply a sale. We were promoting an e-book that we had picked up on ClickBank and got one of them sold. All it is is a conversion from a view to a sale.

I haven't read the author that you're talking about, but I know that there is all kinds of good stuff out there. I'm currently reading "Think and Grow Rich" by Napolean Hill. I think it may be the best book that I've read on success. Every time I read some of it, I get pumped up and motivated.

A good tip for everyone out there. If you're not working on changing your thinking and reading books by people who've been successful, then you really need to. Learn from those who have been there and done it and find out how they did it.

Well I'm off on something potentially huge now and will keep you guys all posted. Hope you all have great weekends.

    • Thanks so much, Justin. I honestly didn't know that it meant you made a sale. I have to believe that is so exciting when one starts to see the fruit of their labors. I will look into the book you mentioned. Continued success to you .

Happy 4th to everyone. Our fireworks at the lakefront is tonight and we go every year.

    • Hi Justin

I've not had much net access, as I've been by the pool most of the time...I'm reading the same book. Some really good information in it.

I've been told not to read too many books though, find a philosophy that works and stick to it, or you will never move forward!

      Cheers

  • Hi group,

Lot's of information being passed around the past 3-4 days I have been watching. Here is my question. Would it make sense to purchase lists just to get started and build some momentum, or is "organic" growth always best?

    Will D.
    • [3] replies
    • Hi Will, thanks for stopping by and at NN as well. Buying traffic is always dicey, in my own experience. It is probably a better idea to go organic, and maybe also hook up with someone prepared to JV with you. Do you have any list at all?
    • One of the easiest ways to build a list, besides the autoresponder, is through your social sites, Twitter, and face book, My Space, all are easy to get thousands of people to see your offer. Twitter is one sweet site to post your urls to, no limits, and lots of atoumatic poster apps out there for you to use. So build your main autoresponder list, and use the social sites to create interest in your offers, direct them to a squeeze or landing page you created, and then they will be on your main list as well. Im learning more about list building and different resources now, and this forum is one of the best places for more experienced guys like Hasan, and many others, to share with novices. Im gratefull for all the advice I have received here..Thanks all.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • Hey Will. Welcome to the thread!

To answer your question, I'd have to say do NOT buy an existing list. You can buy traffic to build your list - such as using AdWords, Yahoo ads, etc. This is a great way to get targeted traffic. You can also get JV partners to send you traffic but if you don't already have a list it will be hard to get JV partners.

Buying a list is a dangerous way to go even if it's double opt-in. This can lead to you - the email sender - being accused of spamming and there have even been quite a few cases where a lawsuit followed. Regardless of whether you are willing to take the risk, buying a list simply is not effective. Go with buying ads on Google AdWords, Yahoo Search, and Bing. The leads you get from here are very targeted because you can choose who sees your ad - by choosing specific keywords - and your leads are looking for a solution to thier problem and they chose YOU when they clicked your ad. They're basically waiting for you to sell them that "solution."

Hope you find this helpful. And sorry if I typed too much and didn't explain enough. If I didn't make things clear please let me know I'd I'll be glad to explain some more.

      ~ Colin

  • Thanks Bryce and Spacemonkee for getting back to me. As I mentioned in my first ever post on here, that I am a new 'newbie', ie. literally just starting in the online world of money making.
I come from a finance background and want to definitely go down this route. I have done a bit of reading, mostly on the net (close to 20-25 hours), and have decided on a few options. This is what I envisage on what I could/should do.
Can someone please guide me on what really needs to be done.

Firstly, build a website, obviously I have absolutely no knowledge of doing that. So was thinking about using one of those SiteSellit websites where most things are done for you. SiteSellit sounds a reputable place to start with. I just want to start something soon and then learn more about web designing and web building as I progress.

On 'this' website, I would be either selling eBooks(Get some Ebooks from here) or write a niche about something I enjoy. Please can someone enlighten me on which of these would be more marketable or if there are any other options available.

As a newbie, what would be my best(first) steps forward ?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
I have a thousand questions but don't want to sound dumb and get carried away on this forum. Thanks guys.
    • [1] reply
    • Sounds like you have a fairly good understanding of what needs to be done my friend. As far as the ebook goes, I think I would be going for a unique niche as opposed to something that is already out there. If you have something in the way of knowledge and you enjoy the subject, your passion will shine through and people will relate to this. This has been my experience anyway.

The website, well there are many platforms out there that allow you to build a fully functional site with a few cliscks, but most tend to be restrictive in some areas, and some have their branding on every page, etc. Not that the latter is a major problem, it is just that for some reason these types of sites lose credibility with a lot of people online.

For the price you will pay (unless it is free or very cheap) you might be able to get someone on this thread to build you a site.
  • Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted for a while but work commitments and the "real world" have kept me busy!

I just wanted to comment on buying lists.

First of all you have to ask yourself a question...if you buy a list then why will the person on the list buy from you? They don't know anything about you nor you about them so its like selling to a stranger on the street - psst wanna buy a watch??

I bought Mass Control by Frank Kern a while back and he shows in there how you need to build a relationship with your "prospects" - I hate that word but it will do for now. They need to understand what you are about and what your story is so that they can relate to it and you. If you buy in names then there is no relationship.

I use twitter throughout the day and now have over 3,500 followers. These are not just any old followers though, we interact with each other regularly, ask each other questions and post replies or jokes or quotes. It is a relationship and each follower can unfollow me if they don't like my interactions. So I guess you could call this a list of sorts. If I have anything useful to say on my blogs then I post it on twitter and they can subscribe to my list if they like and a lot do.

So what I am really saying here is don't be false, don't just think of the money, don't grab at whatever you can to make money online - because they will see right through it.

When I was involved in direct sales I was just myself when I was out cold calling. I walked in with a smile and a handshake and then discussed what I had to show them. My best sales came from the customers who liked me and my interaction with them. It is harder online because they cannot see your face so have to rely on your communications with them.

So be yourself, talk in your communications as you would normally and build your list or "following" organically and over time.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers Keith

  • Hi again all,

I've been following you all daily but have not had much to add.

But... guess what? I have another techie query.

I installed wordpress on Hostgator - do I edit this as per the free wordpress - which even I found easy...?

There doesn't seem to be many themes so how do i upload a theme from somewhere else?

If I wasn't in the wilds of Ireland - about an hour and a half away from a decent sized town - I would find someone to teach me all this face to face.

I've done the searches for wordpress etc. But there doesn't seem to be anything that instructs step by step - it's straight to the 'upload wordpress (which I managed to figure out by trial and error!), upload your theme, then begin editing'

So, my apologies for asking some very basic stuff again.

    Regards

    Karen

    • Hi Karen,
I use wordpress a lot and have found out by trial and error what works best.

I will try and explain a few basics for you:

To install a new theme log into your wordpress admin panel - this usually can be found at http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin.

Look on the left hand side and you will see a link for Appearance - click on this.
Within this is another link - Themes and Add New Themes - click on this.

You can now search for a theme either by keyword, author or tag. If you just want a nice looking theme for now look at the links at the top of the page:

Search | Upload | Featured | Newest | Recently Updated

Try clicking on Featured - I then selected Arclite for a test

      Click on Install
A new window opens up so click on Install now.

You now can either Preview | Activate | Return to Theme Installer

      Click on Activate

Look at your blog page now and you will see the new theme.

To change the options or look and feel go back to the Appearance tab and mess around with the Theme options.

If this isn't clear or you need any further help just PM me.

      Cheers
      Keith

  • Hey everyone. I see a lot of people on here struggling with building a website and wanted to share with you guys what i use. Webpage-Maker is the simplest thing out there that I have found to build good webpages in a very simple, drag-and-drop method. You can check out their website at Web Page Maker : Make your own web page easily! They've got a free trial for 14 days I think, but I think the full blown version is only $19.95.

It is fairly limited as in there aren't a ton of templates for it, but if anybody chooses to go that route and try it out, I'll be happy to lend any technical support that I can. I've used it for a few years and have become fairly proficient with it.
Hope this helps some of you.

Karen, I really haven't messed with Wordpress too much, but it sounds like you're going to become the expert I'll come see when I'm ready!

    • Hi Justin,

I'll check that out and see if it'll do my stuff. I don't want an all bells and whistles website, just something that looks good and somewhere to sell my stuff.

Wordpress is giving me nightmares at the moment - but I really think it's the technical stuff that makes me want to jump off a cliff!

I look at people selling ready made sites and think I'll give that a go but then I realise that there is still technical stuff involved and I back quickly away!

      Thanks

      Karen:confused:
  • I'm not sure where this thread has gone or if anyone has actually set up the foundation for JVs for Newbies.

I have several lists of several hundred subscribers and would welcome JVs in the IM and Social Networking area.

I think that this is a great idea that needs to be promoted. There are hundreds if not thousands of newbies looking to get there feet on solid ground but have no way of approaching the big guys.

If anyone is interested in a JV please let me know.

I have several websites including The Newbie Phenomenon and Newbie52.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone interested.

    Thanks

    • Hi, and thanks for stopping by the thread! The topic has sort of evolved into a "safe haven" for "novices" and the interesting thing is I guess, it has evolved naturally. The thread has basically become a Q&A section for people who dont want to be inundated with offers from so called "gurus" and opportunities to spend lots of money.

We have set up Novice Nation as a more intimate arena for serious novices to take on some projects, and the sensitive information has been handled over there, for some added security.

I have sent you a PM

    • Hi Karen,

I remember when I first looked at WP and it was confusing to me as well. However as Keith says it is a very simple platform to work with, with probably the most flexibility, when you consider all the themes and plugins available to use with it.

Keith has given some really great information there for using the theme system, and I will add some more specific information, as well as some plugins that will help, over on Novice Nation. As an example there are literally thousands of themes available for WP, and most of the great ones, are not available via the WP main site. I have hundreds on my PC, and I will show you how to get these.

There are plugins available like the "1 click install" that will allow you to save theme files (I wlll give you some links to get these) to your hard drive, and then from the back end of your WP site, you simply browse for them on your computer, and install them with the click of a button. The same plugin will allow you to install other plugins in the same way.

If you can dedicate some quality time to learning the back end of WP, I am sure you will be running like a pro in no time at all.

Welcome to the thread zigstonk! I am sure there will be plenty more to see here as we head towards 10 pages

  • We can add on to this one, but I find it very helpful to have a thread that is vetting out obstcles and challenges to success. we are actually getttin IM/Am types in the Atlanta area together....so anyone near atlanta sound off. There has also been some interest to set up confernece calls to help one another...any interet thoughts on that? At first blush forum seem s adequate but it helps to be real time blue-sky ideas.

But this is the place that I'll always come to for help!

      Bryce et al,

Whuhoo - I'VE DONE IT! My next project is learning simple html:confused:

Can you please give me your opinion on my very first website? I know it's not fantastic but I put it up anyway to have a platform to market my services.

Any comments would be gratefully received (I'm thick skinned - so go for the jugular!)

  • Hi Bryce,

I am so glad to hear that this thread is not dying a death - I try and direct anyone with basic questions on the main forums to this thread, because all advice is given freely and without being patronising, as can so often be the case with some forums. I can honestly say that it is largely due to this thread that I actually got off my butt and 'went for it'.

To all who contributed to my basic education - thank you!

Thank you for the encouragement re: my website. (I'm blushing now!)

I did change a few things but couldn't bring myself to go for the 'hard sell'.

I don't ask for emails (despite what I've been told!) because if someone checks out the freebies and they're not the of the style/quality that they're looking for, they won't buy from me in the future - so I won't need their emails. If they like the articles and order more then obviously I get their email then.

I've checked out NN a few times but there has never been anyone on when I've been there - probably the different time zones.

Anyway, again - thanks for the encouragement.

    • Hi all -

I have just been on this forum since June and have learned a lot. I think I am starting to see the light at then end of the tunnel as to which way I want to go. I have absolutely no IM experience but am a great learner and a hard worker. I appreciate everyone's kindness!!

Karen - your site looks wonderful to me. If one were to purchase articles from you, would they be used for blogs, and/or can they be submitted to ezine articles. I have not read ezine's conditions or terms yet so I generally am in the dark about this. I am under the impression that articles have to be original (meaning from me) and not another source.

Bryce - will probably join NN at sometime, but right now I would feel like a taker and not a giver. I have nothing to offer and feel bad just being a sponge. My hope is that I can help others at some point in my life. Thanks for all your encouragement!

  • Hi all,

    Guess who?:p

    Yep, me again!

I tried asking on the website design etc. forum but I always feel like an idiot when they talk at me in initials and everyone knows this basic stuff!

I am building another (Yes me!) site using the table format as shown in Chris Farrells book. My question is: How can I put text ie. adsense, down the side of the table which contains the content? Sort of in the background area if you know what I mean.

Or would I be better using a pre-designed template?

    Thanks

    • Hi Karen-

Thanks for your encouraging words. I am finding much help here and people seem to be generous with their time and help.

When I say I am new to this-I mean I just starting looking into the possibilities on June 23 when I luckily found this forum and signed up. I am somewhat timid in posting and asking for help because I don't know what all the abbreviations mean (what is an PLR :p).

Congrats on starting another website. It's kind of funny you mentioned Chris Farrell. He is one of the people I am currently listening to. I may sign up for his membership. I am going to do what you and many others suggest by starting one project because I can easily see where people jump into too many things and get overwhelmed. There are two others that I am going to purchase and learn from. Otherwise the only ebook I purchased back in May was Honest Riches by Holly Mann. Have you ever heard of her? I purchased it when I was told I was getting laid off and thought about earning an income at home. Now that I am laid off, I am just trying to figure out my next step.

Thanks for your input and help and I am sure I will be in touch with you again .

ejmjs - thanks also for your words of encourgement. It is much appreciated!!

  • I am also a newbie, love it all so far although it gets a little frustrating at times, I mean I still get stuck on terminology! Being a bit of a cheapskate I have not spent any money, only to set up my site, i will however sign up on a good reputable coaching set up. A good free one I was recommended by someone close is "The 30 Day challenge", they are free and give heaps of useful info on how to do stuff.
  • Hi Maya - and welcome.

There is really no need to spend money on 'the next best thing'.

Have a tour round this forum

    http://www.warriorforum.com/make-money-online/

There are heaps of FREE ebooks, reports etc. If you can't find something that you need in there I'd be very surprised.

Anyhow, as I've said many times in this thread, if you need to know anything - just ask.

    Good Luck

    Karen
  • I have two things to add to this thread but before I do I just wanted to say the getting to be part of a major jv for any newbie is probably like 'spitting in the wind'. It just isn't a great idea. Most major IMs want you to have a substantial targeted list before they'll open up even as much as a discussion. It appears to me to be a pretty much closed club.

For that reason I just started jv4newbies.com. This is a totally free website where newbies can make offers and requests for jvs with other like minded newbies. Lots of little lists do eventually make one large list. Anyway, this is just my attemtp to make this work for everyone. Suggestions are welcome.

Secondly, I'd welcome the opportunity myself to do a jv with anyone in the IM market. We can discuss this privately. Thanks and good luck.

  • Hey everyone,
I haven't been on here in a little while to chime in because it looks like everyone's doing well at keeping things going. I just went over and read David Chamberlain's (the one who started this thread) latest blog post and it has to do with planning. That's one of the most important things you can do is to make yourself a plan and stick to it.

As far as relying on free information (I'm actually having a conversation regarding this with someone right now) I think there's so much information out there that in theory you really could do this without having a buy a single product. That being said, there are always going to be expenses (website domains, paid advertising etc.). But there are resources galore regarding anything you want to know how to do that are free.

My roommate and I have bought only one product since we got started and that has led us to finding free resources ourselves. We believe this system to be the best and most thorough course on the market for the money (I'm not trying to sell it here, but if you want to know more contact me) and have become affiliates.

I think there's a psychology behind putting money into something that motivates you to take action so that it won't be quite such a waste. No matter what you see or read however will replace the fact that this takes a lot of time sitting in front of a computer to get it to the point where you don't have to spend as much time maintaining it.

I would also like to encourage more question asking on here. Don't think that you're being a taker by asking questions. If you ask a question, there may be six other people who have the same question and haven't asked it. When you get an answer, you just helped out six people by asking it. Just another angle to look at it from.

Its amazing to see us all growing and coming together on this stuff. If you haven't signed up over at Novice Nation yet, you're missing out. Lots of good stuff over there and resources as well. Bryce has done a FANTASTIC job with it (Thanks Bryce). Keep going and you'll get there.
    Justin
