As long as it needs to be is about right. Having said that - the more you have to offer (bonuses, testimonials etc), the longer the copy is.

I have just received my sales letter about my writing course from Russ. It hasn't gone live yet, so no conversion rates.

What I do want to say is this a great letter, Russ has totally nailed the course, he knows my voice, and has done exactly what we asked him to do.
