| Riding Shotgun with Frank Kern From: Metronicity Tuesday 29th September Dear fellow Warrior, Yes its true. I've been riding shotgun, as it were, with one of the world's most respected Internet Marketers and a brilliant copywriter - the $23 Million Man, Frank Kern. Let me explain - I first came across Frank Kern a few years back. He was one of the first to start using video in his marketing. And it was a breath of fresh air from the usual style of internet marketing. There were no shots of red Ferraris or double-storied mansions. No big-chested bimbos sprawled over piles of cash. Mostly it was just pretty rough and ready footage of Frank and his buddies hanging out and talking about internet marketing. Very entertaining stuff. So I followed along and picked up a few things in the process. Fast forward to this year when I took his advice and bought...or rather "trialled" a well-known Guru's new product - which turned out to be disastrous. So that soured me on Frank for awhile. I was still on his list and looked at his vids but he'd "gone off the boil" for me. It was round about this time that I stumbled across a 2003 FTC judgement online about "Irwin F. Kern IV" and I was horrified. "This guys a crook!" was my reaction so I blogged about it. In fact I was pretty scathing in my posts. Here's the bit in the FTC judgement that got me het up - Quote:
Anyway. Turns out it was all a beat-up. Or rather a "sting". With Frank as the fall guy. So I find out later. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I'm beavering away at Frank Kern stories and slagging him off all over the net - I was convinced he was a villain after reading that FTC judgement. If You Google "Frank Kern FTC" I'm probably still #1. If you Google "Frank Kern con man" - there I am again. I was #3 on Google for "Frank Kern" (broad & exact search) and I'm still #1 for "Frank Kern FTC Bust" and #1 on Google for "Frank Kern Asshole" and #2 for "Frank Kern Conman" and #6 for "Frank Kern Con Artist" and #1 for "Irwin F. Kern IV". (But by the same token if you Google "Malcolm Lambe asshole" - there I am in poll position.) So that's the background. Then last week I read Frank's version of the events that took place with the FTC. And it was so blatantly obvious that he was telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth that I immediately drafted an email and made a video and apologised to him. I told him I would amend all my posts so that it was clear I now thought him a straight-shooter. He emails back - Quote:
So there we are. That's my Frank Kern story. He seems to really like the sales letter I did for him. I like it too. I think he brought out the best in me. I asked him if it were OK to tell people I was working for him and again he replied - Quote:
We interrupt this program to bring you a bit of light relief. Normal programming will resume in a minute. Thank You for your patience. Now back to the program. Yeah, let it be. Here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna take the knife to my copy prices. See that four figure "Book rate"? Slash! Back to...lets see...what's a good figure? $2999 - nah - I'm worth it but it's still four figures. $1999? that's more like it but I bet it doesn't ring your bells, you bargain hunter you. I can dig it - I buy WSOs all the time. Too many. But when I see something that's obviously a big discount I go for it. How about $999? Would you go for that? Comes with the right to say "Yeah...I've got Frank Kern's guy working on my sales letter". LOL. Yeah that works. Its still a lot cheaper than what I just charged Frank. Uh hang on...Frank's a Warrior. Uh oh. What if he comes on here and snaps up the deal I've just offered you? Hmmm...we can't have that. So Frank. You can't take up this offer. I've something else in mind for you anyway. Here's the deal - $999 for a ball-tearing salesletter. But only to the first 5 Warriors. After that I close this WSO and go back to what I normally charge - four figures. So I'll write you a smoking sales page for $999 Hit that buy button! I'm on a roll. My terms - full freight up front. But I reserve the right to pick and choose who I write for. And what I write. Don't give me Penis Enlargement gigs. Or "Turn your farts into gas" or whatever it is. Give me something decent. I'm not interested in writing for products I don't believe in. ![]() Now let's have a fag, as we say downunder. Have a look at this old Camel cigarettes print ad from 1944 (Thanks to VintagePaperAds). Over the jumps on Uncle Sam's "iron ponies" They've Got What it Takes! Isn't that a beauty. Look what the girl is saying - Quote:
Trends in advertising have changed. Big time. But some things remain the same. Legendary direct-response copywriter Gary Halbert said - Quote:
Quote:
There's some copywriters around here that think it mandatory to spend two months or more on writing a sales letter and charging an arm and a leg for it. Not me. I bang them out pretty fast. For a reasonable rate. Who can afford to shell out $15,000 on a sales letter? That's madness. I don't care how much money the sucker brings in - that's a lot of money for a marketer to find. Don't you think? And I know even $999 can be a stretch. I can dig it. In fact I'll do a deal with you if you like - we can haggle over the copy fee and you can pay me a percentage of Gross Sales. Up to you. Personally I'd go for the flat $999. With a decent product it doesn't take long to recoup that. By the way...I don't write to a formula. I think Frank Kern must have picked up on that. My copy "resonates" - it reads "believable" - well I hope it does. I write in plain simple language mostly, starting with a good yarn and then seguéing (segwaying) into a pitch. I'll have your customers reaching for their credit cards before they know what's hit them. Guaranteed. But there's no Silver Bullet in internet marketing and advertising. Some things work. Some things don't. You need to test, test and test again. Add a word. Drop a word. Change things around. Change your graphics. Or your font. Add video. Take away the video. There's no magic formula. And even if there were – too many campaigns run the same way can turn people right off. I think you know what I'm taking about. So...as per the forum terms - Quote:
Now where was I? Oh yeah. Testimonials. You want some? Here you go. And after that click on the Buy Button and go through to my verified PayPal Merchant Account “Miserable Productions” (I used to have an office on the site of Victor Hugo's mansion here in Paris) to pay and let's get started on your cash cow. ![]() Quote:

Here's another - Quote:
And I have a whole bunch of other testimonials I bought...I mean...that were volunteered by happy campers. PM me if you want them. And PM me for details on past work. Or to tell me you think I'm a dick or whatever. cheers, Mal p.s. If you're reading this and are still sitting on the fence going "Geeze...I don't know about this guy" - I'll throw in concept and copy for your squeeze page. Just so it doesn't look like a friggin' ghost town in here, I'll give you an update. Two Warriors have taken me up on this offer. So now there are only 3 spots left at this price - comes with a free set of steak knives...uh...hang on...we've sold out of them too. No...comes with concept and copy for your Video squeeze page if you want it - did you see that in the p.s. above? Both Warriors don't want it known that I'm about to do their copy. Which is a bit weird and doesn't help me much I suppose. But I gotta respect their wishes. BUT you can be sure I'll be linking to their pages once they go live. Voila. Today I'm trying to knock out a long form sales letter page. 'Cause, you know, I sort of bignoted myself all over the shop that I could do it. Hopefully those guys will leave a comment once I've finished (and the van comes to take me away). And yeah...the Kern thing is a trip. Hopefully he's not gonna tear me a new a**hole for capitalising on the break he gave me. I figure he hasn't seen this thread yet. Far as I know he's been in the surf every day this week. And I hate that. See ya. BTW I'm on Skype if you wanna talk. Just keep in mind I'm in Paris, France - 9 hours ahead of California. |

Fun. Unexpected. Somehow, I think if I knew more about Hunter S. Thompson, Mal would somehow snuggle up in Thompson's category. I dunno. Must be those words like "abrasive", LOL. Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for copy (although some of my clients are -- but they are in the market for my copy -- so far, LOL. Maybe that will change once they see yours, Mal, LOL.) Does "damn fine writer" mean == "You seem to be enjoying yourself and having such a fine time, I want to join you? Sheesh, dude -- don't start the party without me!" I told a copywriter friend of mine -- well, I'm going to modify the story -- "Everything you need to know about copy can be learned from the deli scene in 'When Harry Met Sally'." |

Thanks for your kind words. Yes I am having fun. Life's too short not to. Got your Skype call but as you can see we are in different time zones. And Hemingway was a writer - a damn fine one - and not a copy hack comme moi. Bisous from Paris - the city not the airhead. Update: just found the Hunter S. yarn - http://tinyurl.com/y9fmlsw | |

| OK, Mal This is my forth or fifth WSO with you. The other four were tremendous. They were all for my clients in my internet and offline marketing business and you've read their Raves about you. I keep telling them, he'll raise the price if you don't quite telling him how good he is. C'est la vie. So, I show your copy on this WSO to Melissa, and she knows who Frank is, never met him, but she likes his stuff. She also knows it's quite a coup to be writing for him. She says, "We have to get Malie for our new e-commerce business site." And I say, "WSO, muuhahahaha we get him at a 90% discount." And she says, "I really like the copy on that WSO, something like that might work for us. And you know I'm a girl who likes a bargin." So, you've been PayPal-ed. Got to hook you two up on Skype so you can get the brief directly from her. She doesn't speak French, but she says she was in Australia for a couple of weeks. You two can talk Kangaroo's or Koala bears or something. Any way 'GRATZ on landing Frank, good stuff. I'm always totally confident you'll take care of my clients. I only work with the best and trust the best with my livelihood. So, here we go again. Your pal, Palo Coyote Aka Tony Marino |

If you bought the WSO you have a right to comment on it. However, if you have not bought it you have no right to say anything at all about it. You have no basis on which to even give an opinion one way or the other. As for the Kern bit. No, you didn't mention it at all - only just now in a PM. Do you seriously think I'd be claiming the above if it were a fairytale? Here on the Forum where Frank is a member? BTW it's not "worked" - it's "work", as in present tense. Did you not read this? - Quote:

| You're welcome. Still reckon your photo would look better above-the-fold though. Kept the same size and put on the left of the copy. That way people get to look at your handsome face while they're reading your copy. And you'll increase conversions I bet. Worth a test no?

Ok, here's the thing with Mal. Only twice in my life have I got it wrong about somebody. The first was a guy at college who I didn't like the look of when I first met him, and then he went on to become one of my best ever friends, and the 2nd was Mal. I had seen a couple of his comments before on the Warrior Forum and was quite taken back by some of his posts, but actually, I now know this because he shoots straight, he doesn't bulls**t you, and most importantly, he knows what he is talking about. He can walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Well, after being recomended by a friend here on the forum, I started to approach him for some copy I needed doing, and his replies were so entertaining, I just knew he was the man for the job. What then followed made me totally embarrassed about how I had judged people in the past by a few posts I might've read on this forum, because Mal is one of the most generous, knowledeable, helpful, and kind people I have met in a long time. He is doing stuff WAY beyond what I hired him for, and it makes me shuder when I think how different it could've been if I hadn't taken him up on his offer. Mal, I want to THANK YOU personally for everything you have done, anybody wanting to hire you shouldn't give it a second thought, and if they don't listen to me, then listen to Frank Kern who hired you too. Thanks again and see you on the next project, if you will have me. Cheers, Phil |

Damn, I was just checking out what Malkie is offering and I s*it you not- this thread is so much fun, it made my day ![]() Yeah, his style may not be the best if you're selling church supplies, but Malkie is an AWESOME copywriter and a great guy to work with. It's his style of copy that sets you apart from the crowd. Peace out Chris |
