Well I already went over one of the benefits but I think it's worth going over again:

Getting past the gate keepers.

This is probably the biggest hurdle most people face, you have all the offline knowledge and you're able to make a sales pitch, the only problem is that you can't get the right person to hear it: The decision makers.

With this database that's no longer an issue because you now have the exact name of the business owner, instead of calling up and asking for "the person who owns the business" you can now directly ask for "Steve Bell".

Will this be a magic bullet that instantly gets you thousands of clients? No.

But it will drastically increase your success ratio and ensure that your message is reaching the right people who need to hear it instead of whoever is closest to the phone when it rings.

What's the best way to use the data?

In my opinion the absolute best way to take advantage of this data is through the telephone.

Don't get me wrong, postcards and in person visits work great as well but when you compare the amount of time/money/energy spent, the telephone beats them all.

The biggest benefit of using the telephone is that you can outsource 99% of the work with ZERO upfront costs!

In anticipation of this WSO I actually made a test post on craigslist on Tuesday of last week. And as of today (Tuesday afternoon) I have received over 80 responses from people who were interested in a COMMISSION based sales job.

Obviously the advantage of this is that you only pay your sales reps when they obtain new clients, think of it as an offline CPA lead

So how much is all this data going to cost you?

Well before I tell you that, let me show you what the competition charges.

If you've ever looked into business lists you know there are 2 models that are used:

1. The first is the per month model, this is popular with services like salesgenie (infousa). They charge you anywhere from $80 - $120 per month to access the data, but there is a condition: You only LEASE the data AND you can only view 1 record at a time. They call it "database management" but that's really just a slick term for forced continuity. I really don't like this model.

2. The second one is the "one time fee" model, I like this one because there are no recurring fees or restrictions. The downside is that this is generally expensive. As you can see from these screenshots, most places charge you at least $300 for the database:













So how much are you going to pay for this database?

Yep, a one-time flat price of $30.

No having to login to a website to view the data or using special software. You get the complete database in .csv format for easy viewing and use.

The database is composed of all 50 states + DC and was last updated in June of 2009. The data is separated so each state has it's own folder and each .csv file has 50,000 records. The compressed file (.rar) is about 500mb and when it's uncompressed it's 3gb so make sure you have plenty of disk space

About a year ago I paid $1,000 to a consumer/business data scraping company for a 3 year membership for access to their data. This is one of the databases that they provide to members and we're allowed to use it anyway we wish which includes reselling it, even if it's at a lower price

Not sad at all. Now, at least one person knows this is a bonafied list. Is it an updated list? Still don't know that.

It certainly is highly unusual for a list company to allow plain buying customers to freely resell their data - for any price. They are so protective about their data.

Having the owner's name still does not mean you will get by the gatekeeper. When calling the business, the gatekeeper still answers the phone and will still try to keep you at bay regardless whether you have the name. Having a cell phone number is the best way to avoid the gatekeeper.

It's true that knowing their name isn't a magic bullet but it greatly increases your odds rather than just asking for "the business owner". Any competent employee can immediately recognize this as a sales call and has probably been trained to either pretend to take down their name and number or to just forward them to an answering machine with the other 100 sales calls they received that month.

Getting database is EASY.. Sending postcards to their address is EASY. The hardest part is.. blast email all at once. Most ISP is locked out bandwidth. What's your solution?

No this database doesn't contain the email addresses, just the standard mailing addresses.

this list and have the ability to do custom searches?

This is a csv. file and I wonder if "openoffice" would do it? I want to be able to search this
database with certain criteria: find realtors from a certain city, or by zip code or an area code...

Do you guys know of the best solution, besides of going to full blown database softwares?
