WordPress is the key software for making a success of your Internet Marketing business. Learning WordPress is like putting money in the bank! Dear Warrior, Consider this: WordPress is one of the first things that most Internet Marketers are advised to learn. From blogging to affiliate microsites, WordPress is probably the best software to run an Internet Marketing business. WordPress allows even a relative newcomer to create fantastic, search engine friendly websites within a matter of minutes. But there is an irony in all of this... I have been in IT training for many years and in that time I have taught hundreds of people the basics of web development and Internet Marketing. I have discovered that the best way to learn any new technology is to play with it without worrying too much about the technical details. However, when some people first attempt to learn WordPress they are immediately confronted with FTP and MySQL and other acronyms that don't make much sense. They may give up before they see how great WordPress actually is - before they have a chance to play with WordPress and have some fun. But here's the thing... Back in 2007, while teaching a course in Internet Marketing that I was teaching, I had to teach 20 adults about blogging in a room with no internet connection. As a result I had to create a version of WordPress that could be installed quickly and easily on each students own machine in the classroom to allow them to use WordPress. No Internet connection needed, no web server, no FTP, no fuss. Just fun playing with WordPress. And guess what... my students loved it! Many went on to become WordPress experts in their own right using their new WordPress skills in making their online business a success Can you imagine how great that feels? To have a free hand in learning WordPress, playing with themes and plugins, testing and tweaking all without worrying about breaking something? Watch any child and you will see that the quickest way to learn is through playing - trying new things and new ideas without worrying about the mess ![]() To play with WordPress you need a copy of Instant WordPress
If you work with WordPress as part of your business, Instant WordPress will help you test, develop and learn what WordPress can do quicker than any other way I know. Hi Seamus ,
Are the components (php, mysql, apache, wordpress) upgradable? Quote:
Can this actually connect to the net-- to test/develop plugins (like Amazon, ebay, Facebook, Rss, etc)? Can we use the WP 2.8.4 "Install Plugins-- Upload-- Browse" function to just browse to the plugin zips on our drives, for adding plugins? WP Export/Import function? Thanks,

Answers!
No, the php, mysql, apache are not designed to be upgradable in this version as this keeps the software simple. However WordPress is upgradable to whatever the current version is. I am looking at adding upgradable server components in a later version if there is demand.. All plugins supplied! Not just links ![]() Quote:

Yes, this works as standard. Effectively Instant WordPress turns your local Windows into a web server with WordPress installed that is wrapped in a nice simple interface. Please note however, Instant WordPress is only designed for testing and devoloping in WordPress (hence the included PHP debugger) not for actually hosting a live website. Hope that helps! Seamus

Hi Seamus,
Also just bought and started to play with it. Having all that 'test' content in it has already made it worthwhile as I now understand (I think ) how to do menus and submenus, by tracing back where they are in the scheme of things and what they're called in WP.I have a few questions which I'll try and sort out myself first, because my grey cells are going and it does take me longer now to grasp what was so easy a few years ago , so if I become a 'pain in the a**' with support calls just tell me!Anyway, first reaction is that I've already got my money's worth, great discount. Thanks, Dave |

It also makes it easier to see what fit where. I suggest trying two completely different themes one after another and see how the handling of pages and posts works. This makes reverse engineering themes much easier.

I need to develop a site for a client. So can I use this to create it and be able to show it to my client "offline" and once we get it where we want it, will I be able to just upload it to his server live?

The software works fine with any WordPress plugin or theme and this is actually what I use it for, I develop plugins using the built in PHP debugger. I also use the Firebug tool in the built-in Firefox for doing CSS in my own theme development. Works great. You can use it on as many machines as you want, just don't resell it

As for uploading the site - as Instant WordPress is effectively a mobile web server, it is the same as moving any WordPress site from one webserver to another. The simplest way to move the plugins and the theme from the local Instant WordPress folders to the new server using FTP and take it from there. You can move content by using the standard WordPress export/import tools or by exporting the database (Instant WordPress comes with PHPMyAdmin for this reason, but this is more advanced and not for everybody). See the FAQ on the website for some useful links!

Moin Moin (as we say here in Hamburg/Germany)
I just bought InstantWP and now I am playing with the software. It's a good job you have done. BTW: For me it was easy to change the language. What I found out was, that you have to be patient, when entering the appearance section, cause it needs some time to show up all your themes, especially when you got some more there ... One question I have indeed: What do I have to do, so that start-firefox.exe is automatically working instead of IE? Great software! Ahoi! Sorry for my bad english |

I'm moving to designing exclusively for Wordpress and just downloaded xampp to increase my productivity. Usually I just design in Dreamweaver, upload via Wordpress, and make necessary changes through Firebug. This entire process takes 3-4 hours per website just to test all of these items. The bulk of the time is moreso spent navigating through all of these windows/programs. I'm going to test this out to see which is more convenient...xampp or your tool which looks very intriguing!
I'm pretty sure I'll break down early, but do you mind telling me what your software offers over using xampp? Thanks in Advance, Yolanda |

Hi Seamus,
Awesome ... I have been looking out for this tool for quite a while ... saves me the trouble of setting up a 'test' online WP installation each time I wanted to test a new theme. Just paid for the tool and waiting for the download link. Cheers, Andy |

I won't lie and say Instant WordPress is for everybody. If you already have a good WordPress development environment setup, you may not need this. However, I have tried to hit the sweet spot between power and convenience for a WordPress developer, new or experienced. Many developers don't have the time or experience to setup a good WordPress development environment, hence my software. Hope that helps! Seamus

Hello Seamusb,
This sounds very interesting. So my question is does this allow you to fully configure a Wordpress website offline and then once complete upload the completed site to a web server? Thanks, Korey |

The upload would be done in the standard WordPress way when moving any WordPress site between web servers. You would need to FTP up your plugins and theme as usual from your own machine to the live webserver and use the import/export functionality in WordPress to move any content you have. Alternatively you could export and import at the MySQL database level using MyPHPAdmin (more technical, but more powerful). Hope that answers the question! Regards Seamus

I already purchased this a few days ago.
I have test it and for so far it works great. Sure you can install XAMPP and all the things manually yourself, but if you want to start fast this tool is a no brainer for this price. Again, would love to be able to update PHP, MySQL and Apache in the next version. It's an essential thing to keep it future proof. If you are a Wordpress developer or designer, this tool can help you out fast. You can install it on unlimited computers (you own) so do yourself a favour and spend the $17. It all runs in let's say 5 minutes. |

So could this be used to setup a permanent wordpress install on my own computer. The reason I am asking is can I save the database from this program and import it to a web server later if I load up hundreds of articles. Can I backup the database with this program so if I move my copy to another home computer I don't have to start over?
Thanks |

You could also try the WordPress DB backup plugin (WordPress › WP-DB-Backup WordPress Plugins) which would do the same job. You could also backup the Instant WordPress folder itself as security (weighs in about 150+ mb) if your local WordPress is valuable. These would be easy to try and you can always delete and start again with Instant WordPress if you muck up. Don't forget you will need to remove the existing dummy content from Instant WordPress. I suggest the WordPress Suicide Plugin for deleting all content from a WordPress installation, but be VERY careful as this is a serious piece of destructive kit... (WordPress Suicide - Justinsomnia) Hope that helps. Regards Seamus

This looks like a really really interesting piece of software, however I do all my work on a Mac. Having read most of the posts I get the impression this is only good for windows machines. If that is the case any chance of a version that works across the formats? Regards Grahame |

Hi Seamus,
Just bought and looking forward to using Instant Wordpress. I'm not a programmer but have been tweaking WP themes for a while now and learning more and more about hooks etc. My goal is to learn how to create "Theme Options" so this is really great timing. I'm literally downloading it now but, can the software allow us to upload WP 2.8.5 and further new versions of WP? I'm sure I'll find out soon enough but wanted to be sure. Thanks again for this product! Scott |

Thanks Seamus.
The installation to my USB key went off without a hitch. I've been testing my WP themes on it and so far, it's working perfectly. This is a tremendous value, especially at the price you've offered. Thanks again...greatly, Mike |
