I am using HostGator. I have had no real issues installing it. I went through the install process and after it was all done it sent me to a 404 page. I was frustrated until I went back to the EVP directory and realized that it had installed properly anyway. It works great for me!

Hey guys, that install error page looks like a Hostgator issue. We will get onto that and get it resolved now.

Like you both confirmed though, it doesnt seem to stop the product actually installing, just throws up that page so if anyone is getting this error, try going and using the product like these guys have and you should see that its all working fine.

Will update once its been resolved but for now, try doing what they have done and you should see its installed ok.

Hi Josh,

I bought two days ago and I love the script. The IM features are great and I love the button that I can include at the end of the video and the redirect feature. Amazing tool indeed.

I have one real issue though. When using Firefox, I can't view most of the videos. I'm in the middle of a launch and uploaded fifty 5 minute videos. I did embed all the codes into my site and when I checked my site I could only watch 5 videos out of fifty. It took me forever to consider trying a different browser. It works perfectly fine when using Internet Explorer, but I don't want to force every buyer to use IE. I had a similar problem with your download page, could only watch the first video, the others stayed black.

Please let me know what I should do and if others experienced the same.

Hi Matt and other Hostgator users,

Hostgator doesn't allow 0777 permissions. You have to use 0755 instead. I uploaded and also got an 500 error I think but the script installed. From what I remember all scripts with Hostgator need to be 0755 instead of 0777.

Mario - Hey Mario, thanks for your feedback, we use a version of the very popular FlowPlayer to power the "player" within the software itself. This is because, rather than develop our own, we benefit from the HUGE resources they have, and the tried and tested player (so this benefits you guys) but, we have spoken to them about this and it seems its a bug with the Flowplayer app right now, its being fixed as we speak and only happens in certain instances.

If you use multiple videos on ONE page which go on below the fold then the player can get "stuck" on playing them all within Firefox.

To solve this issue 100% is VERY easy right now! (Before the fix is completed)

Just ensure you upload a splash image for each of your videos. This solves it.
(and as soon as the fix is officially released, we will include it in a new version and send that out to all users)

If you include a splash image for each video (very easy to do, just use the feature within our program and it will take a few seconds) then the problem is solved. So right now, if you want to have lots of videos on one page I recommend using the splash image feature. To be honest, I recommend using this anyway! (Just to clarify, it allows you to upload an image within seconds that is shown before viewers hit the play button. This means rather than just seeing the black background before a video is hit, they see a graphic. MUCH better at getting them to take action anyway plus if you do this, the problem is solved)

I would expect an official fix though anytime soon and we are working directly with them. As soon as we have one, I will send it out to everyone.

John Sullivan - Hey John, thanks for clarifying that. You are correct and the app will install fine. We will be updating our documentation to reflect this so Hostgator users know the score and the install process works fine.

Purchased the player. Downloaded it ok but I got the 404 error in wordpress durring installation and quickly figured out it installed just fine. It probably has something to do with certain htaccess settings on some wp themes.

The main reason I ordered EVP was to get my videos off of youtube so my videos have a more professional appearance. I am a little disappointed to find that EVP uses Flowplayer and the Flowplayer logo appears on my videos. As unobtrusive as the logo may be it still doesn't solve my problem of getting the youtube logo off my videos.

Overall I think the benefits of using EVP outweighs the drawback of the Flowplayer logo. I also think the features of your script are really top-notch and very well done. Hats off to you! The videos are great and very comprehensive as well. It makes using Amazon S3 dead simple!

My question is... if I upgrade to the commercial version of Flowplayer will it still work with EVP?

We are planning a version in future which will remove the logo completely, so this will probably be of interest to you. (Keep an eye out) If you use the easy splash image feature you can get it to look however you like before the load (no logo) and the logo would only appear for a second or so tops as it first starts to buffer, the logo is obviously not there at all during playback so you are talking a few seconds at most. (keep an eye out for the version with no logo at all, soon though)

Hello Josh,

I encountered an error when installing the program which was quickly fixed after I watched the video 2 on installing evp.

The problem was that I read and followed the html version of the instructions rather than watching the video. I figured I could skim it and figure it out quicker than watching the 18 minute video.

In the html version there are 2 items (kinda important items) that are different in the video version. Here is an image showing the highlighted items.



In the video version, in step 2 you ask that the config, assets AND the assets/tmp have the permissions changed.

Also for step 3 - and this is what caused my error - there are only the 4 required permissions listed but in the video you ask that all permissions. Once I came back and changed mine to all permissions my install went through with zero problems.

I just wanted to point this out in case anyone else decided to try and take a shortcut.

I've learned my lesson - I'll watch the videos instead

Aside from that minor hiccup, I'm impressed with how things are looking.

Absolutely fantastic buddy! I have stayed away from S3 like the plague because it was such a pain to use until tonight! I just ordered EVP. Then I setup my S3 account. Within 20 minutes of ordering EVP I had posted a test video on my blog!

Installation was a breeze.
Uploading the video was a breeze.
Setting up the settings like the size, video player, etc. was a breeze.
Adding redirect to another URL after video plays was a breeze.
Embedding cool buttons and text right onto the video was a breeze.
Embedding an Aweber opt-in form right onto the video was a breeze!

I really dig how I can go back into the EVP admin area...edit the existing file and when I hit refresh the changes are made without having to re-enter the code.

As a Mac user, thank you for making it web based!

I paid a lot more for a software based product that doesn't do half that EVP does so I can retire it for good now.

Flat out one of the best purchases I've made for my IM business in 2009!

Even at the $167-$197 you plan to charge later this would be a great purchase. For $67 it's a complete steal.

I'm about half way through the instructional videos.

I went to upgrade my screenflow this morning and it didn't like my license key so while waiting I decided to get this going.

Installation was a snap.

I already had an s3 account in place with a video in there, so when I went to log in I realized the program said I didn't have anything uploaded.

I knew I had a bucket somewhere - and finally figured out where to access it on my firefox.

LOL, so, I have not uploaded a test yet, but I see how this has automatically locked in with the s3 account and I can tell already this is going to be wicked easy to upload and keep track of what is there.

looks like a really cool player. Quick question. If I host a 40mb video on hostgator using this player on my wordpress site, will it load and play faster than it does with using the jw plugin flash player?

Here is my answer to RockStarInLifes question..

If you were doing a test by loading the 40Mb video at the same time on both players then the Easy Video Player might be a slight winner.

BUT..

If you repeated this test while 10, 50 100 or more people did the same thing with your video at the same time then the EVP would be the slam-dunk winner.

The players in your scenario would not be the 'speed' factor as much as the location the video is hosted.

Amazon S3 would handle the traffic whether it is 1 person viewing the video or 1000, as if it were just 1 person. Zero slowdown. Hostgator (or any other Hosting Service) would slow down more and more for every bit of a load that was placed on it. Eventually, it might come to a screeching halt.

If you are looking for a plain-jane player then JW or even Flowplayer as well as many other options will work fine for you.

However, if you are looking for a player that you can (1.)easily work with Amazon S3 (2.) you can add html within the video itself - like an opt-in form or any other call to action (3.) add an active buy now button within the video (4.) track an maintain stats of your videos (5.) do your taxes (6.) wash your dishes.. then Easy Video Player is your hands-down choice.

Ok..the last 2 items, maybe not so much

VERY interesting. A couple of quick questions...

1. If we upload these videos to youtube (or other directories), will the optin/buy links still work? And, is this allowed by youtube (and other directories)?

2. Time and again, when I watch a video that is being delivered via AMazon S3, it is very slow to load, and it times out again and again while I'm watching. That is the reason I personally have not used their services. Is there another service this is compatible with?

But basically, yes the main thing that will massively slow your videos down is bandwidth. When you upload a 40mb video file to a server such as Hostgator, if you had 100 people watch it or even 20 people watch it all at once, it would start to slow down very quickly.

Because this player integrates seamlessly with Amazon S3 within seconds and that means that you can use an industry leading service to host YOUR videos!

As for bit rate etc, check out the Video Marketing Classroom in my signature as this will cover alot of questions such as how to encode videos for the internet correctly. (I will be adding content only for people who have bought EVP too in the future!)


Just to clarify for everyone why this product is well worthy of your time considering it and is easily THE best option available right now.. (ask our users!)

abundantliving - To answer your questions..

1) No the embedded info would not work within the sharing sites, this is something they dont allow unfortunately so not something we can do.

We are looking at ways we could achieve this in future and if it is something we manage to "crack" then we will add this into the feature set.

We ARE looking at adding a TubeMogul/TrafficGuyser system into the product in future though (read above) that will allow you to alsoautomate the sharing of your videos across all video sharing sites within the app, easily.

2) This is usually down to a few things, the bitrate and size of the video, obviously your local connection could impact the speed, and also it can be down to where the video is streamed from geographically on the Amazon S3 servers.

There are some VERY interesting settings within Amazon that if tweaked and setup the right way can really help massively speed up your videos regardless of where the users are. I am currently planning a free mini video training course just for Easy Video Player buyers and I will be touching on how to set up your Amazon account to achieve the above in these videos. (We already cover how to set up and account but not how to set up the more technical features within it to "optimize the account once you have it")

Amazons server infrustructure is one of the largest out there and it can certainly handle video playback FAST! Thats why all the top people use it such as Mike Filsaime etc. So I would imagine what you have experienced is a mixture of file sizes, high bitrates on the videos and Amazon accounts not being setup correctly.

I know I learnt the hard way when I first started out with video so its easy to get some of this stuff wrong. (Hence why I am working on the training videos and why I launched the video marketing classroom - link in my sig - to help people with that stuff)

So, in short, with the sort of power that they have, I would seriously doubt it would be Amazon that is slow and causing what you experience. Obviously ALL servers and hosting can speed up, slow down, have outages etc, so Amazon are not invincible to the same issues any hosting can have. But for the most part they remain an industry leading solution which has been chosen by pretty much ALL the top people in our industry to serve their videos.

That being said, we are working on the next upgrade to allow you to use your own hosting (as mentioned above) because we believe in giving our users the choice.. so this would allow you to use your own server if you did not feel comfortable with Amazon.

Took me 4 days b4 grabbing this software...
I even subscribed to this thread! I can't believe I'm doing this...

It took me a longggg 8 minutes to install, set it up and upload my 1st video...(Demo)
I don't even bother watching the tutorials, that's how easy it is to install EVP specially
if you are using HostGator as you really don't need to change the file permission.

I've got 404 error during the installation but it went through anyways. Oh, one thing
more, EVP don't eat .AVI files

ok.... I just installed it and it works awesome! It only took me the time to watch the video and follow the steps to install. No problems and one of the best instructional step by step videos I have seen in a long time. I just uploaded my first video to amazon S3 for the first time using EVP and it couldnt be easier! I have never used it before and it did it in just a few presses of a button.

My only complaint: I did noticed that my dishes didnt get dried after EVP washed them? Josh, could you add that to the updates please? Not a must but would be nice.

I am going to play with it a little more and will post more results using the awesome features of this amazing player! Definitely worth more than $67

This sounds like the solution I've been looking for! I'd like to get this, but I use Windows Movie Maker to edit my videos, which usually saves them in a .wmv file. (I see a .avi option, too, though.) Will I still be able to use your product for my videos?

SuzanneH - You would need to convert the video to a "web friendly" format such as .flv or .mp4 There are alot of video conversion programs around and once converted you could simply upload and do everything else with this software within a few minutes.

I was already using Flow Player on my site and did not find putting up videos too difficult but how fast you did it in your video demo convinced me.
