I really know the ins and outs of the AdWords system. While I could have continued to work for Google, I decided to set up my own AdWords firm. Currently I work with small to midsized companies assisting them in troubleshooting their AdWords campaigns. Plain and simple - I love to help people fix their AdWords campaigns!

I know what works and what doesn’t and in the past few months I have seen a massive increase in the number of people claiming their AdWords accounts have been banned. Most of these people state that they did nothing wrong, that their site was perfect and they had no idea why Google was banning them.

MAYBE these people are an exception and their site really is excellent. Hey It's possible that Google just overlooked you....But not likely!

Google has a lot of work to do. Apart from being the first choice when it comes to conducting searches for most people, it also has a mammoth responsibility – it constantly strives to clean up the Internet and stop or reduce pollution (think spammers, and poorly constructed affiliate sites). In a blind, raging pursuit for money, thousands of websites sprout up each day which have nothing valuable to provide.

OK I read the report and -- assuming that Brittany speaks the truth, and I have no reason to doubt this -- I am now of the opinion that

GOOGLE HAS JUMPED THE SHARK

Let me explain. Now they want you to provide relevant content on your landing pages. Scuse me, we are here to make a sale and to push hard for making a sale, not to "help Google's user". I cannot be bothered one iota of an inch whether the user finds the page relevant or not -- they clicked and that's all that matters. If they click on an adsense ad they should damn well know they're going to be sold to.

Google Adsense is full of manure and I've been of that opinion for a couple years now. Use Adsense only to test out traffic, to see which keywords actually get traffic. Then, ORGANIC RANKING and SEO is the way to go once you actually want your traffic.

I refuse to pay Google for traffic if they are going to BS me around with all their idiotic quality scores. Next theyre going to tell me I cannot have a bikini-clad babe selling hot rods on my page if I'm selling hot-rod cars IMHO, as long as the landing page is selling the product that's mentioned or implied in the adsense ad, Google should butt out and go take care of their own biz.

Hi Joe,

I think that's the mindset that has caused us to be in this situation in the first place. The reason why Google is banning sites with poor quality is because they are receiving complaints from their users about this poor quality. So the very same people that have clicked on your adsense ad may have been among the people complaining about the poor quality of information you have provided.

I personally HATE clicking an ad that isn't relevant and isn't informative. It irritates me to death, and I'm an online marketer also.

Why not provide content of value? I guess its just two different business models.

I plan on continue to use google adwords because i make an excellent return on my investment...I use seo and alternative methods of traffic generation also but why would I shy away from a service that if done correctly, I can put in 1 dollar and get a return back of 2 dollars or 5 dollars, 10 dollars or more? I wouldn't. So I follow the rules, and I don't get banned and I make money.

I overstated it a bit. I agree that if the adsense ad is about silk pajamas then you should expect to land on a page about silk pajamas. But that's *it*. I'm not required to provide them with content why silk pajamas are great, which kinds of silk pajamas are available, or any of that stuff. I'm going to sell them *MY* brand of silk pajamas, dangit

Ah, that's the crux of the matter. If I want to provide content of value, whatever that is, I'll get my site ranked in the SERPs organically. If I want to sell something, I'll pay for the traffic, thank you very much.

Besides, this is *NOT* about your WSO. Your WSO is excellent, informative, and a good read. It's about the stuff that Google Adsense is doing. As always, every problem is an opportunity

Thanks, I'm glad that you learned some new things in the report.

That's the thing with AdWords, is a lot of people don't really understand how to use it.

AdWords has been advertised as an 'easy' to use system due to the low cost entry barrier..but it really has a lot of complexity to it.

Thats not to say that you can't easily learn how to really use AdWords but it means you need to take the time to invest in learning the information you need..and there is a lot of misinformation going around.

Its good to hold off on 'using' adwords until you understand how to use it.

Sure no problem.

Its not really a step by step guide of how to use AdWords in terms of setting up a campaign correctly... while it does provide insight into how one should structure an AdWords campaign, it is more focused on your AdWords landing page as this is really the 'problem area' in terms of preventing your AdWords account from getting banned... so it doesn't go into detail on "AdWords basics". I have a WSO coming out later this week which would probably be more suited to your needs.

If you are thinking about getting involved in AdWords , this would be a good report to have as it contains REALLY important information on running an 'intelligent' AdWords campaign..it's a bit more advanced, but might come in use down the line..

You recommend to delete any non-complying former activity in your Adwords account. Problem is that the activity history is still there and can be viewed even after it is deleted.

I set up a couple of non-complying campaigns that never got shown last year...before understanding how this should work. I deleted them many months ago. Could they still come back and haunt me because the activity history is still there, but tagged as "deleted"?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hi Brittany,

I wrote you by email twice, but have not received your response.

I would appreciate your definition of "delete" with regard to your recommendation to delete any possibly problematic past adwords campaigns.

As I mentioned, the adwords interface does not actually allow for what would be considered a permanent deletion. "Deleting" a campaign simply tags it as deleted so that you can choose to display only certain campaigns.

Is that sufficient in your opinion?
