(along with an explanation of why you do things a certain way) There's a lot of info available on wp, but who knows what you can believe unless you are a coder-- which I am not. It seems you are an expert in this area.

I have concerns about the stability and security of sites that I put up (especially for my customers) in the long term. I'd love to have a better and more secure install process to start a site with more solid footing so I can be more comfortable knowing it is less likely that I'll have a huge headache or security breach down the road.

It's a good question and one which I've been asked before. My simple answer for now is that no I don't have any manual or video course that details the process. It would be a great idea for an e-report and/or video course but as of yet I just haven't had the time to put it together.

When I last ran this WSO I got a question on this very topic from Jeff Usher who later ordered an install that he was intent on replicating and I responded with some relevant info that I think you may be interested in also. For the time being, and in the absence of a "Optimum WordPress,- The How to E-Course" I'll just have to hope that this will suffice.

Hi Jeff,

yep,.. you sure can. There aren't any plugins being used that would pose any breach of licensing. As you said,.. everything's Open Source and you can go for it.

Here's the thing though Jeff,

Unless you have a flash uploader to your server you'll find that uploading 24 plugins takes quite a while even if you're using the onboard WP-Admin plugin zip installer (will only install one at a time).

The other thing is the actual WP core platform install itself. We use a custom version of the latest (currently 2.9.1) file setup which you could again manually upload but without a flash installer what a pain that is.

You could actually use fantastico,...BUT in order to protect yourself and replicate what we've produced with Optimum WordPress you'd need to change the "wp_" prefix in the database tables and the configure.php file (not hard but takes about 20 minutes by the time you've dumped the tables, replaced the prefixes and imported back up again). Also you'd need to create a new administrator with a non "admin" name and then delete the original "admin" administrator in the MySQL files. Or to simplify that whole process you could empty all the DB tables and import the tables from the original OWP install that we do for you,...but I'd still recommend changing the table prefixes and suffixes just so that every install is different (as it is with our OWP installs). At least that way all the plugin, page and post settings would be identical to the original.

Anyway,... if you think you're up for all of that I'll gladly do the install for you for $19 and give you my blessing and good wishes for as many others as you've got time to produce

Hi Mick,.. no worries there Mick because we don't use either Fantastico or Wordscript.
We install directly via cPanel and also use ftp in the fine tuning of files after install.

Bluehost uses cPanel and we have clients that host with them so you'd have no problems with us installing Optimum WordPress on Bluehost for you,... so you're safe as houses! (sorry,...couldn't resist the pun )

Mick, You don't need a domain name to order and secure your install for $19 as one of the first 10 orders,.. and then you have 6 months in which to decide where and what domain name you'll host the install on.

But eventually you will need a domain name to host your new WordPress blog or site on.
As soon as there's a domain name propagated on you host server we can do the install for you.

Yep,.. that's a spot on analysis Mick.

The OWP install is a complete install with all the bells and whistles all secured with customized admin panel and log in settings and all of the plugins activated.

We install using the Brian Gardner "Code Blue" theme which is very versatile and stable but you can replace that with any other theme you choose and then do upgrades and redesign the new theme and OWP will still function beautifully because it's a root install and not theme dependant.

I run my own blog at Blogthrust.com using Thesis so I can answer you very well on this one/

• It works perfectly with Thesis,. the SEO plugin provides extra parameters to those in the Thesis custom editor panel. Thesis as you know is terrific as far as onboard SEO having much more than the default features,.. but it's not absolutely comprehesive,- so this plug augments it very well.
• The Optin email blaster is an internal optin list generator (double optin works really well and is very configurable) It will perform email blasts of your latest post and you can assign how many and which one to be included plus configure the template for sending. It is not a full autoresponder service but I can arrange one for you if you like (free service full featured but with list size restriction of 500 and 3,000 monthly mail blasts which is plenty for most folks).
• XML site maps = Google XML sitemaps plugin...yes. We install it but don't launch the map as that's left for the owner to do once the site pages and posts are set up..but its just a one click job anyway!
• The Video for sidebar plugin does not conflict with the Thesis hooks or feature box because this is simply a widget resident script that creates the screen and then calls the video from uo to 30 different streaming services (Youtube plus most of the mainstream ones) You can adjust the size of the screen to suit your sidebars and also add text before and after the screen. Features multiple rotating videos if you wish to have them,..and can have as many copies in the sidebar as you like all showing different video.
• The SEO-For-WordPress course is generic and not centered around any theme. The principles you will find in there will work brilliantly whether you use Thesis, Kubrik or any other theme out there!

Okay CM,.. so I assume your thinking of buying a templatemonster theme or design and then having it skinned over Thesis?

If thats the case... yes we can do it,.. but that would depend on a couple of things. 1) If you need it soon I probably can't help as we're super busy for a couple of weeks but after that could fit it in.
2) The cost would depend on how many templates youn needed for sub pages/internals etc and just how complex the original design is. I could get you a quote if and when you were ready.

Re the autoresponder,.. yes... completely free if you stay within the usage parameters and we can also install a plugin for you that will interface with it (custom designed just for that job). Please note we don't set up the autoresponder for you,.. just send you the sign up link and install the plugin. We can set up the autoresponder if needed of course but that would entail a seperate fee because there's quite a bit of time involved creating the list, campaign(s) forms etc.

Great,.. thanks for your order. I seems a couple of people clicked the link to see the sales page for the Bonus SEO package which is $47,...BUT it's bundled in free with this WSO for Optimum WordPress Installation.

I was about to order even though I would really prefer to install my blogs myself* but became confused by your offer MRR offer for Warrior Tools.

What is "Warrior Tools"? Did I miss something in your WSO offer?
I don't know whether I need to buy MRR or not because I do not know what "Warrior Tools" is.

If I buy the MRR without knowing what it is for and then discover that I don't need it after I discover what Warrior Tools, is a refund possible? Or, alternatively, if I discover after buying that Warrior Tools is great can I order the MRR later or is that a one time offer?
(Another decision is a bit of a challenge right now - I need to hurry to get the early bird special and it is 4:30am here right now and my brain needs sleep.)

Hi Wayne,

thanks for your comments and questions. Let me clarify a couple of things.

1) There is no Warrior Tools MRR Bonus for this particular WSO,.. that was for a previous WSO. This WSO is bundled with the SEO-For-WordPress video and manual course (which is much MUCH better value and worthwhile than the Warrior Tools offer).
2) The idea for producing a course on how to do the OWP installations is a very good idea that I will probably act upon when time permits (if you're on any of my WP lists I'll let you know). Having said that,.. without a flash/uploader installer it can take quite a while. The crazy thing is that even with my software which includes flash uploader it still takes me an average of 30 minutes per install (if I enounter problems that can double easily). So the big question is "how much is your time worth?" and consider this.... how many installs would you need to perform in order to get your job time down to 30 minutes each? ( the answer to that is at least 50,.. and probably more. Even so I understand some people like the hands- on under-the-hood kind of stuff so in that case I probably will produce a product (video based) that will teach this stuff.

Hi Ina,

yes WPMU is an entirely different scenario to your regular blog or WP install in so much that it is a community blogging community. This is exactly he same platform that is used to run the blogs over at wordpress.com and also buddypress (an excellent interactive community solution.... like setting up your own facebook community.

As for needing a separate dedicated server,... it's not really necessary as you can find hosts that will allow it on a shared server. I checked out several hosts about running WPMU and they all said NO,.. but Hostgator said yes to me and then assisted me with setting up the *wildcard domain name structure to enable all the sub domains. I set this up about 12 months ago but haven't used the site a lot. I actually shut it down after a few months (well,.. should I say... restricted new site registrations. You can check it out at RESIblogs) because it was getting abused by all the Viagra, Propecia,..etc sites that were starting to clog up the server. Not that Hostgator complained but my idea was to shift the platform across to a dedicated server once the traffic and bandwidth demanded it.
I aslo used WPMU to set up a community of real estate sites for single property sales,... and that site rocks... it really is great (not on terms of sales..YET... but functionality is really great,.. IS-selling.com,- The Home of WordPress Single Property Websites for Property Professionals).

So unless you need to run a community of blogs or sites I wouldn't recommend using WPMU. Having said that I do love it and like most things WP it is very well done.
