Opt-in Rate changes really based on the niche of the site. I've found that "Recreation" type sites get higher opt-in rates (Double Opt-In) if structured accordingly, whereas some sites with a hard sell will get little to no opt in if not structured accordingly.

With a recent site I built (And am in turn using Amazon Affiliate to monetize) I've had about a 3% double opt-in rate, which is quite impressive considering the amount of monetization you can do on the back end (At least pays for itself over again every time I send an email out)

Hmm... I tried building a list with StumbleUpon but the opt in rate is so bad, it costs me around $1-$2 per subscriber. Is that something similar you're experiencing?

So-if you get stumbles for building a list, do you break even fairly fast or does it take awhile to break even and start earning?

Stumbleupon simply will NOT approve a one page salespage website.

You are going to need to add "useful" content and tune down the sales aspect to get approval. Stumbleupon doesn't want blatant sales pages.

Sorry, but this is not a Yes/No question. It all depends on how well your content converts into opt-ins and the offers you present convert into sales.

Like any other campaign, you will need to track your stats and test variations of content and offers to determine your best break even and then best profit.
