Truthfully, I started using Twitter to "Follow" some people that I
think are really smart. That's it. I wasn't even thinking about
internet marketing or totally free, targeted traffic.

I didn't like the site much at first (shh!) and I just thought it
was a complete waste of time. It seemed like an over-the-top,
100% total waste of time, actually.

But all that free traffic changed my mind about this "silly" site...

Twitter is Limited
(That's Good for You)


On Twitter, you can post messages about, well, anything you want.
You talk about your dog, explain what you ate for breakfast, or
point to your favorite web site. It really seems like a big, fat
waste of time.

I said out loud, "Twitter's a waste of time."

Unlike like a blog, you don't get much space to type your message --
only 140 characters! -- you don't control the web site, and people
mostly post ... junk.

How Does Twitter Drive Traffic?


I started to Follow people and they started to Follow me. As I'm
writing this, over 1,300 people are Following me. (I didn't even try
to get them to follow me. Crazy, huh?)

Now, here's where things get nutty. When I post links to my own web
sites (yes, I'm a "dirty" internet marketer), people click those
links. In fact, about 29% of all my Followers click all my links.

At first I didn't realize this, but I looked at my various logs and
metrics. It became pretty clear that many folks on Twitter are
serious about reading -- and clicking -- my links.

My problem is that I feel like I must provide serious value in every
silly little Twitter posting ("tweet") that I make. I feel like I
have to watch what I post...

But, holy guacamole, I do get tons of "free" traffic from Twitter
for very little effort. It's really brainless to join and post. I'm
often on Twitter, but only for a minute or two at most.

It's also brainless to get traffic.

Although I don't mind spending a few bucks for web traffic, I like
free traffic a lot better. I especially like free traffic when

Twitter is NOT the ultimate traffic machine. You cannot spam
Twitter. People don't follow people who don't offer value.

Although I post many "tweets" on Twitter, it takes me about 20
