Kneb, in your ebook, you mentioned about the guy who was doing very well with the info about Student Aid. But when I looked at the actual document, it had a note at the beginning that said, "If you paid for a copy of this FREE publication, please write to this address and give us the name of the organization that charged you."

Does that mean it IS still public domain information that can be distributed - but not sold? Has something changed? Or did the guy you refer to reformat the document and call it something else?

Curious about how that would work. That warning was a little scary.

Sorry again for the delay. Refund issued now.

The reason why I was not aware of this is because (as I announced on the forum) my gmail accounts were hacked last month, by a known indian hacker, and I still have no access to them, including the support one (it´s still freezed by gmail).

Well, I ran into some lack of detail when it came to actually determining the PD status of a book or magazine within the 1923-63 range. The ideas in the ebook are fantastic and it's easily worth the money but when I try to determine whether an old magazine I have is in the PD I seem to run in to more questions. There was a site link in the ebook that looked very useful and the caption said:

"I will explain how to fully use this site, on the next $197 Update ..."

That's why I was looking forward to the update.

All public domain courses talk about the rules of what is in PD and what is not. But few, if any, actually show the detail required to determine whether something is truly in the PD or not. Kneb's ideas on what to do with the PD material once you find it couldn't get any better. The detail lacks in the determination of PD status once the material has been found. Especially for those items that are in the gray area of PD.

A lot of the common PD material is already out there and Google has probably already scanned it and made it publicly available. However, I have found books and magazines that are a little harder to find and they are the one's that are difficult to determine the PD status on. Some are easier than others. Actual screenshots of the usage of the copyright DB would be very useful as would examples of determining magazine PD status and copyright renewal status for books. None is included in my version of the ebook and I was hoping that a later version would have it. Perhaps not.

Sure... that´s just one of the new sections of the new Update. How to exactly determine if a work is (in fact) in the PD, with clear screenshots and step by step.

Good move regarding Magazines (niche goldmines on steroids).

You will enjoy the other sections too, don´t worry.

Oh, and for the record: Google is just a tiny fraction of what´s there in the "unlimited" PD database...

Also: don´t assume that if a PD work is scanned by Google then can´t be monetized... nothing further from the truth.

Google is just making your life easier.

Ok, while we're all eagerly awaiting the updated guide from Kneb, what say we discuss the matters at hand, rather than complaining about the apparent delays?

I've been hanging around some used bookstores in the area, and have found several books that were published pre-1923. I bought a few thinking they'd be great to use for online content. When I got home, I looked them up in Google. Guess what I found? Google has already scanned each of them in AND converted them to text! WOO-HOO!

But then ... why bother buying the books?

Now if I find a book that interests me, I make some notes on it and look it up on Google first.

I did find one that's more of a "pamphlet". It's a first edition of something published in 1921. I found a listing for it on Google, but the contents are not there. I found a couple of people who may be offering the same book under a different title, but it's impossible to tell from their description. It seems similar, but ... hard to tell.

I also bought one that's a first edition that is also available on Google. But, first editions are first editions. The fact that I don't have to type it all in is handy, too.

(I also picked up a copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Preferred so I don't have to scan stuff in.)

The thing that interests me about this particular book is that it's written as a kind of course, in 31 chapters. I'd guess it's intended to be read one chapter per day, although it's not entirely clear.

Regardless, I figure I'll split it up into 31 "lessons" and set up a membership site that delivers the content every few days in a blog post, where I'll encourage people to post their thoughts on that chapter's material.

The thing about this old material is that the verbage is rather "strained" by todays standards. A hundred years ago, people liked to write in long, flowing, complicated sentences that were full of sub-phrases and words that aren't even used much today. Just making a pass over the material and writing it in a more contemporary form will render it far more readable, and unique as well!

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with that little pamphlet. It's by the same author as the one in 31 chapters, and it's on a related subject. I was thinking I could offer it for free to anybody who went through the entire 31-days of materials and posted a comment on every one.

What do you guys think?

Is anybody familiar with this offer? Are pre-1963 magazines a good source of materials?

I wish I still had my copy and bonus material. Burns me that after the loss of my computer and backups, this is the one thing that I really want to get my hands on.

I am currently working on a site that is based upon a PD book written pre 1921. The book is good and has some very good info. I also have another site that I am working on that has about 30 books that were all PD. I have sold a number of these books but just need to squeeze the time out to finish these sites off.

I work as an SEO guy / site maintenance for a large IM group. Large as in we have over 500 sites that we are constantly working with.

The PD stuff is a sideline for me and I know without a doubt that it works.

When the new release comes out, I guess I am on the list for it. Heck, I would be happy to just have the old stuff and the bonuses back. If Kneb is working on a new release and it is better than the first one, I and excited and can't wait.

Lets hope that he gets it out to all of us soon...

Well, I ran into some lack of detail when it came to actually determining the PD status of a book or magazine within the 1923-63 range. The ideas in the ebook are fantastic and it's easily worth the money but when I try to determine whether an old magazine I have is in the PD I seem to run in to more questions. There was a site link in the ebook that looked very useful and the caption said: "I will explain how to fully use this site, on the next $197 Update ..." That's why I was looking forward to the update. All public domain courses talk about the rules of what is in PD and what is not. But few, if any, actually show the detail required to determine whether something is truly in the PD or not. Kneb's ideas on what to do with the PD material once you find it couldn't get any better. The detail lacks in the determination of PD status once the material has been found. Especially for those items that are in the gray area of PD. A lot of the common PD material is already out there and Google has probably already scanned it and made it publicly available. However, I have found books and magazines that are a little harder to find and they are the one's that are difficult to determine the PD status on. Some are easier than others. Actual screenshots of the usage of the copyright DB would be very useful as would examples of determining magazine PD status and copyright renewal status for books. None is included in my version of the ebook and I was hoping that a later version would have it. Perhaps not.

Sure... that´s just one of the new sections of the new Update. How to exactly determine if a work is (in fact) in the PD, with clear screenshots and step by step. Good move regarding Magazines (niche goldmines on steroids). You will enjoy the other sections too, don´t worry. Oh, and for the record: Google is just a tiny fraction of what´s there in the "unlimited" PD database... Also: don´t assume that if a PD work is scanned by Google then can´t be monetized... nothing further from the truth. Google is just making your life easier. Hope this helps ; )

Ok, while we're all eagerly awaiting the updated guide from Kneb, what say we discuss the matters at hand, rather than complaining about the apparent delays? I've been hanging around some used bookstores in the area, and have found several books that were published pre-1923. I bought a few thinking they'd be great to use for online content. When I got home, I looked them up in Google. Guess what I found? Google has already scanned each of them in AND converted them to text! WOO-HOO! But then ... why bother buying the books? Now if I find a book that interests me, I make some notes on it and look it up on Google first. I did find one that's more of a "pamphlet". It's a first edition of something published in 1921. I found a listing for it on Google, but the contents are not there. I found a couple of people who may be offering the same book under a different title, but it's impossible to tell from their description. It seems similar, but ... hard to tell. I also bought one that's a first edition that is also available on Google. But, first editions are first editions. The fact that I don't have to type it all in is handy, too. (I also picked up a copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Preferred so I don't have to scan stuff in.) The thing that interests me about this particular book is that it's written as a kind of course, in 31 chapters. I'd guess it's intended to be read one chapter per day, although it's not entirely clear. Regardless, I figure I'll split it up into 31 "lessons" and set up a membership site that delivers the content every few days in a blog post, where I'll encourage people to post their thoughts on that chapter's material. The thing about this old material is that the verbage is rather "strained" by todays standards. A hundred years ago, people liked to write in long, flowing, complicated sentences that were full of sub-phrases and words that aren't even used much today. Just making a pass over the material and writing it in a more contemporary form will render it far more readable, and unique as well! I'm still trying to figure out what to do with that little pamphlet. It's by the same author as the one in 31 chapters, and it's on a related subject. I was thinking I could offer it for free to anybody who went through the entire 31-days of materials and posted a comment on every one. What do you guys think? -David

I wish I still had my copy and bonus material. Burns me that after the loss of my computer and backups, this is the one thing that I really want to get my hands on. I am currently working on a site that is based upon a PD book written pre 1921. The book is good and has some very good info. I also have another site that I am working on that has about 30 books that were all PD. I have sold a number of these books but just need to squeeze the time out to finish these sites off. I work as an SEO guy / site maintenance for a large IM group. Large as in we have over 500 sites that we are constantly working with. The PD stuff is a sideline for me and I know without a doubt that it works. When the new release comes out, I guess I am on the list for it. Heck, I would be happy to just have the old stuff and the bonuses back. If Kneb is working on a new release and it is better than the first one, I and excited and can't wait. Lets hope that he gets it out to all of us soon... Go Kneb, go....
