Do you think using public domain materials to create a membership site is a good idea? I am trying to think what kind of membership site can benefit from this and how to do it,lol.

I bought this last night and spent the day at the library reading it and checking some links....it was great the 1st time round. Looking forward to reading it more slowly........Excellent information so far. Looking to understanding it and get a product ready on the next few days. I think I will need some clarification on use of gutenburg sources though. What I am reading is that we can use the material for anything but we can't sell it. does that mean we can't sell it exactly as it is but we can put it in different typeface and with a different cover?

I bought the book several weeks ago, I tried some of the method like creating a new niche site selling some old public domain images, havent really profit from it yet. But its a great book, it give me lots of concept idea which im going to implement it when I got the time. Now way too busy to create more sites.

Here's a question for you: I've noticed Google has been scanning in lots of old books, pre-1923 that are out of copyright. So does that mean somebody can't sell those old books? Especially considering that their content is freely available at Google.

When the copyright expires on things, it means there are no legal rights attached to them. In other words, you don't have to get permission to use them, and you don't have to pay any royalties for their use. It doesn't mean you can't make money with them.

I don't know if you could get a plugged nickel for a copy of the Gettysburg Address, but people are making some nice coin on old Mr. Shakespere's works!

Yes, of course is a good idea.

I have a friend who is making a killing just by compiling food recipes from the 19th century (********* recipes, to be exact)...

You can setup a membership site about ANYTHING that is in the PD realm... A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

I could go and show you hundreds of memberships sites based on PD information, already setup by smart entrepreneurs and companies...

Just take any niche, compile the best of it, and brainstorm ways of delivering the content, (after finding your market, of course).

Not hard at all... The hard thing is to choose what to go after, with so much profitable PD content (and niches) available, lol...

This (super-profitable) stuff will be a new module of the Elite Coaching of The Public Domain Secret (coming soon - Under Construction).

Adobe Reader gives you the ability to print with or without the background image. By default, I believe it's OFF, so you do NOT get the background.

What a wonderful WSO. I truly found the material amazing and extremely useful. On top of that I loved the way you put this product together. It made for great reading with all the neat pictures and graphics.

One question...do you offer a WSO that sheds light on who might purchase these products (i.e., an example of an Artwork Agency, Design Company etc. and also how you approach them with product?

Well, Acrobat does give the author the ability to disable various things. That may be one of them.

I, too, would love to print it out. But at 283 pages with a rather dark background ... no thanks.

Regarding your question, I think you are talking about offline marketing and contacting agencies. This is stuff that I only teach on my private coaching, because it needs a totally different approach and knowledge.

In any case, most of the ideas and models I show in the Book can be setup online, very easily (and profitably).

Thanks for your response. What I'm asking is how you approach your prospects with your products. Do you email them? Set up a store and somehow get them to go to it? And one other question...where can a person find out what the going rate is for those kinds of products? I know what a book would be worth but I'm unsure about prints, for example. Would looking on Art.com be a place to find out that kind of information?

Contributor Copyrights come into play when dealing with magazine, journal and periodical issues that were published between 1923 and 1964. In some cases, an issue of a magazine could be in the Public Domain, but some of the contributed articles or artwork could still be covered by copyright if they were copyrighted independently from the magazine. If you want to use an article or illustration from this time period. You can check contributor copyright renewals located at the Catalog of Copyright Renewals.

However, here's some additional info. that you may not have thought of, especially if you want to sell on eBay or other sites (just something to keep in mind -- just remember the word Disclaimer -- if you can do this then you won't have anything to worry about or anything that will haunt you that will keep you awake at nights)

Public Domain USA * Currently all items published in the USA before 1923 are in the public domain. * Work first published in the USA between 1923 and 1963 where their copyright was not renewed in their 28th year are in the public domain. * Works published in the USA between 1923 and 1978 without a legal copyright notice are in the public domain. * Works first published in the USA after January 1st 1978 retain copyright for the life of the author and seventy years thereafter, bearing close similarity to UK laws.

Here's a Very Useful Tip:

The main problem you may encounter is where you take a product that is public domain in its own country of first publication but not in other countries, meaning you can be breaking the law by promoting that item in countries where the work is still copyright protected.

The best way to overcome this potential problem is to sell the item exclusively in its country of first publication and to tell potential buyers that the product is not suitable for overseas readers.

Such a mention should be enough to prevent you from being charged with any offences. So if you have a book that is public domain, say in Canada, for example, but not in the United States, then your offer can include one of the following messages:

** Product is for Canadian buyers only. ** ** Persons outside Canada are not allowed to purchase this product. ** ** Strictly not for sale outside of Canada ** (Make changes accordingly for other country combinations).

ANOTHER EASY SOLUTION:

You can easily take a book or other product that is in the public domain in the USA, for example, and sell that product exclusively on eBay.com which covers mainly the United States. Likewise a product that is public domain in Canada can be offered solely on eBay.ca.

It’s also a good idea to complete the section inside your eBay listings where you specify countries to which the product is available, and countries where you do not want your item to be sold. This way potential buyers outside the country of first publication will not see your listings and subsequently will not purchase an item that may be copyright protected in their own country.
