Ray,

The niche topic is definitely flexible and something we could discuss together. I can pick a topic if you want, as well, but I'm finding most clients already have a topic in mind, and that's fine. I can create a blog on virtually any niche topic.

As far as keyword research goes, I use the Google Adwords keyword tool and look for long-tail keyword phrases that have at least 500 searches a month, but try to especially target those that have at least 1,000 searches a month. Then, I go to Google itself and type in the keyword phrase in quotation marks to make sure it has less than 200,000 competing websites for that phrase, and that there are at least two paid ads for the phrase. You get 10 keyword-optimized articles with the package, and if there are more than 10 keyword phrases that meet my selection criteria, I use the ones that have the most searches with the least competition (but still show at least two ads on a Google search).
