Q. Why do i have to uninstall v1 to update to V2?
A. V2 was virtually completely re-written, to ensure no clashes with the earlier version we recommend you uninstall v1 prior to installing V2.

For future updates we have included automatic updating and don't intend changing the current framework.

For the extra features it's more than worth the little time it takes to uninstall V1.0

Q. With other some other plugins i cannot redirect my visitors from my mobile site back to the non mobile site without them getting stuck in a loop - does you plugin have the same problem?
A. No V2 does not do that - it has a new feature that all you have to do is toggle on or off and thats it. It will redirect them once to your mobile site and should they return it will show them the main non mobile site.

No special URLS or complicated coding is needed for this.

Q. I want to direct Ipad users to my mobile site can i do this with your plugin?
A. Yes, with V2 you can choose to send iPad visitors to your mobile site or not by simply clicking a button in the admin interface.

Will the plugin be updated regularly for new user-agents so that the redirect plugin works reliably moving into the future?

I'm currently using a hard-coded PHP redirect with user-agents and from my research, the hardest part is keeping up with the user-agents as time goes on.

Also, if you do update for user-agents, are the updates free?

Good question - since we use the same plugin ourselves we will do our best to keep it up to date, all updates will be FREE for the life of the plugin.

As we all know there is a long on going debate about whats the best type of user agent detection to use... ie PHP or Javascript User Agent or Screen Size - the beauty of this plugin is that you can choose between the two?

ie PHP User agent detection or Screen Size detection using Javascript.

We prefer User Agent detection but more so on mobile sites themselves, since not all mobile devices both smartphone and non smartphone can handle the same type of content, this way using user agent detection we can deliver the most compatible content to the mobile device.

If you should happen to find a user-agent that we have overlooked - all you need to do is open a support ticket and we will address it immediately, just go to JumpMobi, LLC - Submit Ticket

Additionally since we develop our own plugins and themes etc you can also do a feature request and we will gladly look into it and see if its possible.

We just updated to Version 2 of the plugin and we basically re-wrote the entire plugin so in this instance you would need to manually re-install the plugin, however the new framework we are using has one click auto-updating functionality

My Review:
I've done quite a bit of research on good mobile redirect scripts, and eventually implemented one with a fair amount of detail that still had some flexibility for future phone user-agents.

But I've been keeping my eye out for a good WordPress plugin that would make it quicker to implement and easier to update. The downside of my current method was needing to update user agents myself and that takes time. Especially when you consider how many sites you have to update manually with the changed code.

Jay's plugin solves this problem for me. He is using a combination of user-agent detection methods that is both reasonably comprehensive but also easy for him to keep updated. And that makes a solid redirect solution in general, and a fabulous one with the redirect tucked into the plugin.

And we get updates as part of the plugin. We also can request updates ourselves if we find a user-agent that isn't getting caught properly.

Because of this, I feel the plugin is easy to use AND easy to update. The code is nice and lightweight so the browser resources should be minimal.

And, of course, if you know WordPress but not code, this simplifies the whole process for you. No code to fiddle with (like I had to do before) and no manually updating to worry about. Just plug your redirect URL into the plugin and off you go.

The bonuses were a nice feature too. Nothing I couldn't have found myself eventually, but I would have had to know where to look in the first place, and would have had to fumble through implementation without the help from the videos. So kudos.

All in all, a simple and elegant but very useful plugin. And at this price, adding it to my toolbox is definitely an easy choice to make.

Oh, and in the interest of full disclosure, I did buy at the "review" price. However, had the plugin code not been worth it to use, this review would have not been so positive. :-)

We never received a support request, but we stand by our products so we just spent the past +4hrs testing this scenario to try and replicate the same error message using WP Multisite, we don't officially support the WP Multisite configuration with our plugin just yet, but we where able to get it to work - saying that the only way we where able to replicate the same error message was if you pointed the redirect url to the same site.

For example if your site was wordpress.org and you put the redirect as wordpress.org it would get stuck in a loop and trigger that error message but if your mobile site was at say m.wordpress.org and you put that in the URL redirect it wouldn't error.

For now we are not 100% supporting WordPress MultiSite but will continue testing it under this setup to make sure its working correctly in the near future.

At the moment it doesn't - this plugin doesn't actually have any control on what happens at the mobile site, just on the initial main wordpress site if a mobile visitor comes to it.

You might have been referring to a similar system we have used in the past where by an alert pops up and says mobile device detected - do you want to visit the mobile site? That is a feature we had considered to include in this release. But for the moment - to be fully functional (like we currently deploy on some of our clients sites) it would still mean hacking the WP template HTML (to prevent the alert from continually popping up) which is something we where trying to avoid with this particular plugin.

If we can think of a way to deploy that feature without having to edit the WP theme - we will certainly include it in a future update.

I'm wondering if you can set up a html site on a non-.mobi domain (.com, .net, etc) and have it display properly? For example, set up pages inside of your main WP site (like in a sub-folder) that would look ok to a mobile user, and then have your plug-in re-direct the mobile visitor to a sub-folder instead of a .mobi site?

Any hints on what the bonuses are??

Please take a look at the screenshot below of our extremely simple plugin interface:



Where you see the "Redirect Url" field, simply enter in any URL- it can point to a subdomain, a domain, a specific page, or even a file, or video doesn't particular matter but it would make sense to make it mobile compatible destination.

After pressing "Save Changes" the "Redirect URL" will be where visitors will be redirect to if they visit your WordPress site using a mobile device.

Try looking at our site using JumpMobi.com either with a mobile device or even using a site like iphonetester.com for a working example.

Jay gave me a sneak peek at this great little plugin and I have to say it's one of the coolest Wordpress plugins I've used and it's something just about anyone selling mobile websites can benefit from.

While it's simple and super easy to use, this will save me lots of time when setting up mobile sites for clients with Wordpress websites and it's a "must have" tool for your mobile website toolbox - and a steal at less than ten bucks!

I wasn't going to buy any more WSO's for a while but I couldn't resist this. I've been building a few mobile sites lately and I know Wordpress can be a bit tricky with regard to setting up the redirect so this seems an excellent solution. I just got it and haven't installed it yet so I'll have to report back after checking it out properly but I can say that the bonuses were a nice surprise - one of them is going to save me a bunch of time!

I had an email from Jay this evening asking if I'd look at this plugin and give some feedback as to the usability.

I read the sales copy about not having to fiddle with html code etc...that was attractive to me.

I hate staring at that code stuff!

I logged in and watched the short video and...deep joy!...it really is "no html"

Simply copy n paste (I can do that) the mobile url and save and that's it.

He's also giving away 3 bonuses and, quite honestly, the 3rd bonus could, and should be, sold as a separate product.

This is another time saving plugin and for the price is an absolute steal.

Here's my review in brief:

- very easy to use plugin that worked just as it should when I tested it.

Thanks Jay, I definitely recommend this plugin for anyone working with wordpress and mobile websites - it's so much easier than messing around with code yourself.

However, I do have one simple feature request based on what I've seen so far - I'd love to be able to enter a figure for the screen size variable (or at least be able to choose from a selection) rather than be stuck with just the 800px screen size. How about it Jay?

I am new to adding this type of feature for my clients. It was funny that I asked a client if her WP site was visible on her mobile device (lol, I'm old fashioned and use a regular 7 year old cell phone) and she said it was fine.

However, I had someone pull it up for me, and it displays her whole site which is very tiny when displayed on a device so I want to add a mobile version for her.

Here is my question. If the device used is not recognized, is there or can there be some kind of snare on the end of the redirect that tosses the person back to the initial domain? How does that work? Or do they just go to the regular site?

Hi Jill,

Thanks for your question - if you use the javascript detection currently any device with a screen size less than 800px will be detected and redirected. We will be rolling out an update in the not to distant future that will allow you to input your own preferred screen width.

Whilst we have our own approach for mobile phone detection using PHP, some much older phones may slip through our net - in that case the plugin would not redirect.

Thanks guys - any feedback positive or negative can only help improve what we do.

Right now from feedback we have been asked for the following additional feature requests and will be putting them in place in the next update.

1) Option to be able to enter size for screen size detection ie change it from 800 to whatever you want.

2) Option to handle iPad redirection.

Any other feature requests you guys would like us to include just let us know.

Full disclosure, I purchased a review copy.

I'm not reviewing the actual workings of the plug-in
but more of why someone might get this.
I have many theme builders. I'll go out on a limb and
say I'm n the top 10% of people who have hoarded
and bought theme builders.
Some have a built in mobile interface along with the theme,
most don't. Each builder is used for a certain type of site, so
the ones that don't have a mobile interface, I need to set up
redirection, make sure it is compatible and hope the theme
developers keep up with WP changes.
If there's no mobile scripting, then I've resorted to free plug-ins.
Some had potential security or virus problems, some abandoned,
most inadequate.
With this plug-in I have little more flexibility with what to do with it.
Besides, if the OP is using it for themselves, then I feel fairly confident
the will update and add new features.
I have less to worry about virus and nasty coding. If I found out they
were messing up the plug-in just for fun, I would hunt them down. LOL (not kidding)

For what I paid for this, it cost me more to buy toilet paper. I hope to use
this a lot more than a few rolls of TP! Ya, I said that.

Yeah if you go to our site JumpMobi.com on your cell phone it redirects using this very plugin to our wordpress mobile theme... The theme is in quickstart mode at the moment though so shows just one page

I purchased Jay's plugin just before the offer closed - phew! - and installed it on one of my sites to check it out. It was quick and easy to configure and it works like a dream.

I have seen many of Jay's posts regarding mobile websites and felt comfortable buying his product. I bought a review copy (sorry for posting late) and love the plugin for WP! It is a great solution for WP sites and since I don't like to spend a lot of time trying to tinker to make things work, I really appreciate quality plugins such as Jay's to make life easier.

Bottom line: great product - simple to install and use and available for a low price. Although no more review copies are available, the regular priced plugin from what I hear comes with some nice bonuses. I may have to buy it again.....

This looks like a very handy plugin. It's makes it quick and easy to install a mobile redirect on a wp site to a mobile version. Also it's great that it seems to work on all the simulators.
