I like the fact that he gave us a mind map, although I must admit I have never used one very much. However, it's a great outline of everything he says, and I can go back to the mind map and refresh his ideas from having my memory jogged by the outline by itself. I think this is a course that will need to be revisited very often: At least once a month is my plan to refresh my mind of the audio portion of these videos, all the way through again each time.

I've got two domain names that are both in the same niche and you've turned on the lights tonight for me, as I listened to part 2, video number 5.3 at the 6 minute and 30 second point. I really wasn't sure of what the best strategy would be for my affiliate marketing, but I suddenly got a marketing plan in my mind when you said something important and I put two and two together. It's always good to have a plan: A solid plan!

So Joe's website development training course is more than that: It's also a marketing course as well! When you can bend the web... when you can connect the dots and see a straight line from one point to the next and the next, and success at the end: Then you have a plan. If you don't have a plan, then your just shooting in the dark and rolling the dice. This information will help you see more clearly. I can see more clearly now on several points.

I've been following Joe's advise for some time and my site wasn't hit by penguin but increased in the SERP's.

I picked up a golden nugget from the Part 1 of March of The Penguins (yes, it's true, Part 2 is an upgrade but Part 1 in itself is fab on its own!) and my site shot up from nowhere to Page 6. I picked up a golden nugget from the Part 1 of March of The Penguins (yes, it's true, Part 2 is an upgrade but Part 1 in itself is fab on its own!) and my site shot up from nowhere to Page 6. George thanks for these questions, I'll put some of them and the answers in the FAQ:

A1. The front end goes into a lot of detail what is penalized by Penguin, so even without buying the upgrade you will get a LOT of info that you can use to evaluate what happened in your specific situation.

A2: I don't cover social signals especially, in this course. Just off-page, on-page, and SERP.

Q3: Do you offer any suggestions on which free or paid tools/software (Majestic, Link-Assistant) would be the best ones to use in measuring what Penguin-related problems (anchor text diversity, non-niche backlinks) exist which need to be addressed?

A3: I personally use Open Site Explorer and Ahrefs. There's several other resources mentioned in the videos and mind map which allow you to examine these other issues.

Q4: Is Penguin a real-time filter applied to search results or one which is only updated periodically (like 4-6 weeks) so you won't see benefits of link/anchor text profile adjustments for a while?

A4: Technical answer alert Penguin is precomputed and scores each page according to a lot of factors including on-page, off-page, and SERP behavior. I have not seen any evidence that Penguin factors are personalized, and thus would have a real-time effect on the results displayed. It's quite possible that such real time behavior is present, being tested now or will be tested in the future. It's very hard to get a large enough sample of searchers' experiences to detect this.

I expect the Penguin updates to be on a 3-6 week cycle. The first one was pretty drastic and the Google engineers probably have their hands full tuning all the factors to mitigate the collateral damage to what they consider good sites while maintaining the punishment of what they consider bad sites. I'm pulling this out of my hat but would not be surprised if Penguin-2 happened mid-June.

Q5: How many websites are you basing your Penguin recovery theories on?

A5: About 750 websites, all owned by my clients, hence I can not reveal them. And I am not presenting recovery theories. I am presenting penalty factors that, when removed, will cause sites to rise in the ranking.

Q6: Do you buy into the theories that "authority sites" have been favored over EMD micro-niche sites with the Penguin update or that EMDs have been somewhat targeted?

A6: Bill Guthrie and myself did a WSO about ranking on page 1, a while ago. Here's the link. It would be cool to revisit that and see how the rankings changed post-Penguin. I suspect that would allow us to talk about facts and not theories.

Quick review of March of The Penguins...

Like a lot of people, I had a few sites slapped off the map by Google. Not a good feeling to see traffic and earnings drop to zero for the sites that got slapped.

I kinda knew what the cause was, but was not sure why nor what to do about it. The timing of this WSO couldn't be better for me. It's like Joe118 gave me Google Goggles, as I now understand why I got slapped.

More importantly, I know what to do with new sites as I go forward. How to protect them and the money they bring in.

Really pleased that I can fix the damage done and sort things out for the future.

Joe has been the guy I turn to whenever there is something happening at google. He has kept me up to date for over 2 years now. Whenever he talks I listen because I know he does his due diligence when it comes to SEO.
After going through this course I understand the new google updates so much better and know how to get around it. I now have the information I need to be on a level playing field with the big boys and girls.
